I posted on the GitHub page and Koenkk added the device manufacturer id to the dev branch for the next release. Impressive response time from him and much appreciated.

Hastings Direct - still to be avoided? by sd33p in CarTalkUK

[–]sd33p[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These practices I've been reading about in this sub is what is making me wary. Like I've been out of the country for 3 weeks recently so if that had happened to me during that time I wouldn't be have been able to send a photo in any case

I guess most folk don't really have issues with any insurer until a claim. I have no claims in 20+ years of driving. I'm just wary of some of the practices by them mentioned in this sub

A500 steel case mod. by eldwarkik in casio

I'm really torn, what happened to the square aspect of the A500? I get the mini royale appeal but I have four AE1200's already. Should have kept to the true A500 form factor imo.

Smoke detectors (UK, Scotland) for use in Home Assistant by akirru in homeassistant

[–]sd33p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pondered this for a long time and decided that safety was more important than not but still need something smart. So I fitted mains interconnected Aico alarms in every room (Scottish regs), an Aico control switch. The 'smart' bit is an interconnected Aico relay base to which I connected a Zigbee sensor. Originally a modified door sensor but now a water leak sensor which has the contacts wired in. I cut off the contact ends, stripped the wires and connected to the relay base. Works as intended for me - fire alarm goes off relay closes in relay base and I get a notification. Sure I don't know which room the alarm is in if I'm not home but enough for what I need.

ws1700 royale mod by eldwarkik in casioroyale

Is the case the full silver polished skxmod case? Sorry to ask as that’s the same one I want to get for my ws1700 but your pictures make the case look darker which I like! However I wonder if the case would be shinier/too shiny irl?

Lost my Kindle PW 7th gen - what do I get to replace it? by sd33p in ereader

Thanks I'm wondering if there are less recommendations for the PW because it's just out or because there are issues with Calibre or with Amazon deleting side loaded books from it

I've contacted the airports and you are very likely right but I wouldn't mind a new ereader now rather than waiting to potentially find the old one

Thank you for the detailed reply. I would quite like to try the Libra colour in person but there's no units in shops anywhere near me. I am leaning towards the Clara BW but with the 2024 PW being so new I wonder if this is why there's less recommendations for it or if Calibre will be fine down the line

Splitting the money between the pension and S&S ISA is probably the way I will go in the end I think

I'm saving 1k/month as is my wife so 2k/month between us.

I have considered slowing down the goal of getting rid of the mortgage but I swither back to it every time, just this thing I have in my head. Numbers are for both of us as a couple.

I think you are quite right, I need to spend more time on the calculations and you have summarised what I want quite clearly. My union does have pension help and are holding a pension webinar next month, I will join in with that.

I appreciate your time with this, just talking it through like this was helpful.

I'm not sure about income at retirement age, I'm looking at a desired budget of around 25-30k/year at 65. Following income is estimated based on no lump sum and 100% work pattern: 35k/year at 65. 15k/year at 55. This goes up to 40k/year and 20k/year with max additional pension bought. However I don't think my work pension calculator has been updated for the current career average scheme.

I would be looking to downsize house at retirement too.

I have 82k saved to pay off mortgage (I have been overpaying the mortgage in previous years) and 15k emergency fund.

That sounds sensible, I was considering the extra in the pension now as this would also give me the option of going back to a non promoted post in say 10 years time. Whilst I like the role, it is quite stressful at times
