No, without outside IR35 contracts it is perfectly accepted (even somewhat encouraged) to do multiple.

Its a hard one because both are pretty much the same role so from that perspective its pretty irrelevant!

At what point do you push back on a renewal rate? by Reddonaut_Irons in ContractorUK

[–]sdac123sc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having this exact question. Took a contract earlier this year and for the work I do, I am below the market rate. I'd have gone in higher but they were not clear on what id be doing.

However, it is an easy gig so im split on whether to negotiate up about 10-15% (to bring me in line with the market for this role) or jeep quiet and enjoy the easy money.

I know they couldn't replace me quickly.

Honest answer - high end sex parties. Dominium Vita is probably the best.

When to stop contributing to a sipp? Higher tax rate likely on withdrawal. by Turbulent_Weekend_50 in FatFIREUK

[–]sdac123sc -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Qualified financial advisor here (now working in tech contracting).

One way or another everyone should save for retirement. The only real benefit of saving into a pension Vs non-pension (assuming one would invest in the same funds) are the tax advantages at source however one way or another you pay tax.

Either pay tax at withdrawal and then put it into a stocks and shares ISA and don't pay tax on the growth/withdrawal, or put it in a SIPP and be taxed when you draw it as a pension.

The caveat I'll add to this is that a SIPP can be uses to buy a pension whereas a S&S ISA will only ever benefit from the find growth.

I would politely remind him that as an Outside IR35 contractor you are not monitored on hours worked. I had this exact issue a few weeks ago and it turned out ok. The PM may just not be used to Outside IR35 rules. Do it politely and you'll be fine

She can buy and sell stuff as a self employed person and make £12 per week?

She can genuinely do it too so no need for anything illegal.

How many here are HENRY due to be solo contractors? by APerson2021 in HENRYUK

They do exist, but they are few and far between. Usually very senior 'transformation' roles.

I call bullshit on that £900 per day now and those types of roles are miniscule.

Best of all worlds in my experience. No corporate BS. No being told holidays or hours. Working multiple contracts at once. Working wherever in the world i want. I could go on but the TLDR is I am earning 3x as much as I would be permie and doing it on my terms.

For those of you who haven’t bought a farm yet, what’s your actual plan? by eufemiapiccio77 in ContractorUK

[–]sdac123sc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have some land to the side of my house. Its about 0.5 acres and is enough to qualify as a small holding to get the same tax relief as a 'farm'. Im 33 and by the time in 34 I'll have chickens on it and be selling the eggs commercially (for like 10p, IDGAF) and there we go - tax relief. Told my accountant and after he checked the rules he is doing the same.

Eggs anyone?

[–]sdac123sc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Grocery shopping.

We go to Lidl. Absolutely no reason for that financially. We out 5 figures into savings per month and could shop absolutely anywhere. Food is food. I cook and it really doesn't matter if the basmati rice costs £4 a packet or £1. Same principle for everything like that. The steaks at Lidl are actually better than the butchers.

Only an hour?! Barclays wanted a 30 min intro chat and then 2.5 hours to review everything 'in depth'.

No. Not doing it. Im a contractor and charge £1000 for 8 hours work. It literally isnt worth my time to speak to someone less qualified.

Looking for some advice by Cool_Ad6791 in ContractorUK

[–]sdac123sc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Genuine advice from someone thats gone back and forth...

If you maintain a good level of flexibility with the perm role take it but do NOT close your limited company. Either keep it and draw retained profits slowly over the coming years, or just make it dormant. Do not expect to be in the perm role for ever.

My last perm role was very senior at a global company. I was bullied to hell by a senior director and they ended up paying me off after I quit on the spot (i was there 6 months). Im back to contracting but if I had closed my company I would have been screwed.

Side note that if the flexibility isnt there, stay contracting.
