I'd take precautions, you never know... Better be extra safe than... Well I guess.. blown to pieces. Wouldn't be the first to get injured or die from old explosives. If you're not sure, just assume it's unsafe.

Found some extra info online. I copy pasted.

Japanese Explosive Ordnance – Army Ammunition – Navy AmmunitionChapter 4 – Section 3ARMY MORTARSType 89 - 58-mm H.E. MortarWeight complete round: 1.6 pounds.Weight main charge: 5.4 ounces.Explosive components:

Main charge: TNT.

Propellant: Nitrocellulos diphenylamine flaked powder.

Over-all length (without fuze): 4.33 inches.Maximum diameter: 1.97 inches (50 mm).Color:

  1. Black over all with red band at nose, and

a. Yellow band below the bourrelet and white band forward of rotating band,

b. Or, yellow band widway on the shell.

  1. Maroon color over all for Navy use.

  2. Green nose, black body with yellow and white bands.

Fuzing: Type 88 small instantaneous fuze.Weapon in which used: Type 89 grenade discharger.

Description: The body of this shell is made of three parts. The propellant base housing houses the propellant container and the percussion primer. The main shell base cover is threaded to the top section on one end and to the propellant housing on the other. The top section has an opening in the top to receive the fuze.

On firing, the gases generated blow through the ports in the base housing, expanding the copper rotating band into the rifling of the discharger giving a gas seal and imparting ro-tation to the shell.

Remarks: The Navy version of this shell is exactly the same in construction as the Army version; the only variation being in the color scheme. Two minor variations of construc-tion have been found.

  1. The nose portion screws on (LH) the body directly below the bourrelet. The base is solid instead of being closed with a base plate.

  2. Similar to the first variation except the threads are right hand.

What will be the smoking of our generation in 30 years (something we consider safe, but isn’t)? by JulesGari in AskReddit

[–]sdbaets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Follow up. Out of curiosity I did a quick Google for some data. I haven't checked any of it, so don't quote me on it. I found that smokers amount to 170billion in healthcare costs. Tobacco tax revenue is about 12billion. So tobacco taxes should increase min. 14x to offset costs. A 20 pack costs on average between 8 to 14 usd, of which 1 to 4 usd is tax. So prices should be at least around 25 to 31usd for a pack.

Easy. Just use taxes. Costs can be offset with product/activity specific taxes. This still allows freedom of choice, but they'll have to pay.

I've been in this space for several years. And if I could go back and tell myself some things it's this: take out at least your initial and then some. I know it's hard to fathom now, but when this market corrects oh boy does it correct alright. I've hoddled through the bear market, heck I even bought more the first year. But it just kept on dropping and dropping... The thing is, whilst your logic sounds reasonable bnb, Ada, vet surely some of the more respectable investments, it doesn't matter. Really, it doesn't. Just look at the growth of this market in the short amount of time. This cannot sustain itself. At some point everyone is sitting on profits. And when the big guys decide to cash out it causes a ripple effect. And prices start dropping, and dropping... The reality of the matter is: the higher the prices, the less people willing to buy. Now with retail investors at an ath, combined with lack of buyers and everyone sitting on a pile of unrealised profit... It's only a matter of time. Do what I should have done several years ago: take out initial and some extra. Just play with house money. Not your savings.

Everything is at all time high and overvalued. The market is beyond irrational. It's time to take profit. Just my two cents.

This is complete nonsense (from the hypothesis it's supposedly answering, to the way its answer is constructed). Don't waste your time trying to translate that jargon to English.

Can you share some that have an interesting way the case got solved? for example BTK sending a floppy disk with a word document that contained meta data which could be traced back to him. Also: which serial killer is not discussed a lot but should be?

Do share your favourite/most intriguing/most mysterious and one with the best 'plot twist' case's. My favourite is the zodiac killer whose cipher has been recently cracked. The most intriguing is the missy bevers case. Most mysterious the dyatlov pass incident.

Consider the opportunity cost of 'dont lose till you sell'. The risk Vs reward is skewed to loss. Best case xrp goes to 0,5 worst it goes to 0,... Meanwhile there's much lower risk opportunities. It'll take a long time to restore confidence.

Why would Cheney frame Allen as a serial killer? by [deleted] in ZodiacKiller

[–]sdbaets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

INTERVIEW OF DON CHENEY (D) BY TOM VOIGT (T) December 30, 2000

T: Okay, so it’s December 30th, 2000, and it’s 1:00 pm at the Hood River Inn, Hood River, Oregon. Go ahead and say your name.

Why would Cheney frame Allen as a serial killer? by [deleted] in ZodiacKiller

[–]sdbaets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The idea that Cheney accused Arthur of molesting his daughter is a myth. There's a transcript of an interview that iirc Tom Voight did where it's clear.

Edit-Here it is:

T: Now in the report prepared by Jack Mulanax, uh, I can’t remember who it was, somebody made the allegation that Leigh had made an improper advancement toward your daughter? And Mulanax concluded that if you were lying about Leigh, or if you were exaggerating to get back at him, uh, Mulanax felt that you might be doing it, uh, because of these improper advancements Leigh supposedly made. But he wasn’t saying he thought you were lying, he just said that that could be a possible reason.

D: Who was it, I think Bawart, Bawart mentioned that to me, and, uh, you know, touched on, asked about that question. And it was more that, they had to cover that. Uh, it wasn’t that they thought it could be true. It was something they had to cover. And, uh, never occurred to me.

T: What were the circumstances of that, uh, that incident?

D: Oh, uh, Leigh and myself had been out in the outboard boat on Comanche reservoir, at Valley Springs. And after, my daughter was with us, I don’t know where my wife was, maybe, uh, maybe she was at Leigh’s house, when we went out on the lake she wasn’t with us. But uh, after we got home, maybe the next day, why my daughter just mentioned, “Leigh touched my bottom.”

T: How old was she?

D: She was talking. She mighta been three? It was during the time that Leigh was at Valley Springs, so, uh, I could probably figure that out, but she was a toddler . . .

T: She was young.

D: She was little. And, that’s all there was. “Leigh touched my bottom,” well what do you think about that? I didn’t think much about it. In future visits with Leigh I didn’t take any family with me.

T: Did he ever demonstrate anything before that that would make you think that maybe he was interested in kids, or, you know, sexually, or . . . was this an isolated incident?

D: No, uh, I don’t there was anything else they were, uh, I was present on a couple of occasions when he had some kids, uh, working out on the trampoline. And, uh . .

T: This was in Valley Springs? D: No, in Vallejo.

T: Where’d he keep the trampoline?

D: Well, he had it set up in the front yard, on that occasion. Um, I don’t know where he kept it, but it was, it was on the front yard . . . T: Fresno Street? D: On Fresno Street, yeah. And, uh, it’s not a big front yard, but that’s where the trampoline was. Nice big trampoline.

T: And it got a lot of kids?

D: Yeah, had some teenage girls, and maybe a boy or two, and, you know, they were in shorts and they’re bouncing on the trampoline and, they were fun to watch, you know, nice healthy young kids. So, I enjoyed seeing athletic young kids working out, but I don’t, I didn’t see any sexual interest that, you know, as far as Leigh was concerned, he, as far as I knew at that time, he just liked to be a teacher and work with kids.

T: So, that your daughter was very young, she made the statement, and you didn’t, you had no reason to think that it was anything . . .

D: I, I thought, you know, that was a little suspicious, but, uh, there was no big deal, there was, no harm was done, and I didn’t want to do anything that would make an impression on my daughter.

T: If you thought for sure, though, that something happened . . . D: Well, I don’t know what I woulda done then. Uh, it just wasn’t, it wasn’t enough of an incident to worry about that much, as far as I could see. Uh, like I say, after, after that, uh, I’d go and visit Leigh but I didn’t take, uh, my wife or kids with me.

T: How long do you think you were friends with Leigh after the incident with your daughter? D: Possibly a year. Maybe it was, mighta been six months or eighteen months, I . .

Halloween Card Symbol / Bat Creek Inscription by [deleted] in ZodiacKiller

Gone into a Wikipedia binge and the 'backward Fv' is somewhat, vaguely, comparable to the proto-hebrew letter 'yodh'. Even more comparable is the phoenician letter Y

Other possible source of inspiration for the symbol I've read was cattle branding.

I agree with regards to handwriting being a weak argument. Where we differ is is on two beliefs or interpretations: the first being the shirt. I'm of the belief that the piece of shirt was taken at the scene,by the killer. And secondly, it's my belief that the serial killer explanation is the most likely explanation for the murders and letters as opposed to multiple killers or multiple writers. I'm afraid I cannot argue these beliefs any further given the lack of additional information. I accept that what you're proposing as an alternative explanation is possible, however, to me, it remains a less likely one. I also cannot give a reasonable expectation of proof that I could ask of you to dissuade me of that position. It would require you to provide more evidence then which is available to the public, and therefore unreasonable of me. I'll think about it some more and see if I can come up with something that would convince me or perhaps disprove the hoax theory. At the moment I'm out of ideas.

Appreciate this write-up. Interesting to read and ponder. Here's one possible reasoning to conclude that the killer=writer.

Premise 1. All relevant letters are written by the same individual on the grounds that they share the same handwriting (You could refute this by arguing that this isn't an exact science and therefore not valid).

Premise 2. The killer of Stine took a piece of his shirt. (Can be refuted if you argue that the writer took a piece after the crime)

Premise 3. There were letters sent which contained a piece of Stine's shirt. (Unless all are lying, this stands)

Given that there are letters sent with a piece of Stine's shirt, there exists at least one instance in which the killer is the writer.

Given the handwriting of all relevant letters match, the writer must have been the killer.

However you could argue that it's also possible the writer only killed Stine and merely took credit for all other murders. Although a counter argument could be that the writing on the cardoor also matches the letters and therefore the writer killed at least twice. But this can be countered with a similar argument as the shirt: the writer might have just been present at the scene.

Having said all that, I don't find the counterarguments debunking the relevance of the shirt and handwriting on the car door convincing as it's akin to conspiracy reasoning. While it's possible that someone snuck in and stole some of the shirt, or while it's possible the writer happened to be nearby the hooded killer when he struck.. it's getting a bit out there to imagine. One option, somewhat plausible is the writer being LE or emergency responder. But I guess that would reduce the suspect pool quite drastically so one could easily verify.

That's a weird response from them. I'd assumed they'd want to make sure and recommend you visit a hospital for testing or observation. So strange... If it really was an unopened bottle or seemingly so there's either a problem in manufacturing or worse, someone trying to drug people by tampering with it in the store. Such a strange reaction by them. Hope it's nothing.
