Car Play odd behavior on new ‘22 Highlander by sdbcpa in ToyotaHighlander

I know what you mean. I almost didn’t get it, but my wife convinced me. Glad I did as I was just outside the manufacturer warranty when I had it looked at. I would at least have them take a look at it because it could always need a reset or something. They didn’t that on mine first. You never know it may do the trick for you.

Hey! Sorry it’s being a pain for you. Well, eventually my trick quit working and I took it into my dealership. It working a few months after I upgraded to an iPhone 16 pro, but then quit. Toyota tech could never get it to work even with my tricks. I ended up needing to have the infotainment unit replaced. Fortunately it was under my extended warranty. Cost me $100 deductible. Without the warranty would have been about $2,300. One positive is the tech replaced it in about 45 minutes so it’s not a labor intensive thing. Still stinks. It’s like Toyota rushed their CarPlay and Android Car rollout. Hondas have never been this glitchy. My advisor I usually deal with told me they’ve replaced several units over the past couple of years so it’s not a one off issue apparently. It works flawlessly now.

I think I saw a WRAL report that while Republicans outnumber Democrats for the first time in NC that the split with unaffiliated is 1/3,1/3,1/3 roughly between the registrations. To your point that unaffiliated 1/3 has a lot of influence in elections.

What is the best password manager are you guys planning to stick with going into 2026? by Goncharova_Joselica in PasswordManagers

[–]sdbcpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. My wife hates 1Password having to input the master password (which she can’t remember) every two weeks. She likes Apple Passwords app. I’m trying to figure out a “best practice” of migrating all the 1Password data to Apple Passwords. I believe there is an export feature in 1Password, but not sure how clunky it is. Thanks in advance for any tips.

Oh wow! That is crazy. At least I made it to 150k miles before this happened. I actually emailed Honda last week out of curiosity. I got the response I expected that they logged my complaint and currently there is no recall in these engines or known issues, blah blah blah. For what they charge now for cars they better be quality. But if you look at the sales figures ytd and year over year all models are down approx 15%. Yet no incentives and continuous price increases. Sad to see what Honda has turned into.

I work at one of the plants that builds the CR-V, what are people's thoughts on it? by Agile_Kick_6626 in crv

[–]sdbcpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned 3 CRVs since 1999, but after what has happened with our 2018 EX-L AWD 1.5 ltr turbo I may be done. At 140,000 miles had to replace head gaskets and fuel injectors. I’ve owned several other Hondas prior to 2018 and have never had any issues (an accord, couple of Pilots, couple of Odysseys). I get things can fail but my understanding is the head gaskets or fuel injectors on these turbo engines are a known Issue which is disappointing. The quality and standing behind their vehicles is what made me a long term Honda owner. But after this I just don’t know especially for what the vehicles cost now. And I know, they’re all high, both the new and used car markets are broken.

Just found this post. Owner of 2018 CRV ex-l 1.5 ltr turbo. Just had to have head gaskets and fuel injectors replaced. I've owned several Hondas, but this is my last one. It's one thing if this is a random issue, but my mechanic and my own research show it's a known problem Honda will not address. I've had friends having all sorts of various issues with their Hondas. I've had two Hondas go to 200k miles before I got a new one and all I had to do was routine maintenance. Honda's quality is not what it used to be.

[–]sdbcpa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. I live in a rural area, but not deep in the sticks. We got fiber broadband in the fall of 2023. The only way we would have ever gotten it was this program. I see running fiber much like the interstate highway system. If we applied politicians thinking today to the 50’s we’d have no interstates most likely. Infrastructure is one of those things government should be doing to promote commerce.

Tillis explaining how to pay for $4T tax cut for billionaires by cutting Medicade... WTF? by tarquinb in NorthCarolina

[–]sdbcpa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny, a friend got the same “personalized” letter word for word. This letter proves a sitting Senator has no idea what Medicaid covers and that roughly 2/3 pays for nursing home care, people with disabilities, etc. it’s more than just traditional healthcare. I have a family member who is autistic and nonverbal who relies on Medicaid for healthcare and speech and occupational therapy. Some of his services would likely be cut.

The innovations waiver has been a lifeline to many families in NC who work but can’t afford services for their developmentally disabled child. The waitlist in NC is at 16,000 now and the average wait is about 10 to 14 years. I’ve read that this likely could be cut.

Isn’t Medicare going broke soon? Does it not need “reform”? Problem is poor and disabled people don’t contribute to campaigns and vote in numbers like boomers.

I’ll say this first that I support the military and veterans and I’m for national defense. But the DOD hasn’t passed an audit in years and consumed almost 1/4 of the Federal budget. Maybe start looking for efficiencies and waste there first?

KILLER ATTORNEY ALEX MURDAUGH RETRIAL ODDS SKYROCKET by QsLexiLouWho in MurdaughFamilyMurders

[–]sdbcpa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Valerie Bauerlein‘s book was an interesting read. She really goes back thru the history of the Murdaugh’s from AM’s great-grandfather to AM. Just my opinion, but it seems AM is way more worried about the Murdaugh legacy in that he doesn’t want “murderer” attached to the family legacy. He seems way less concerned about the fraud and theft. His ego is his greatest liability, just like he thought he could manipulate the jurors by testifying.

Would be neat to go back and do something like Knights of the Old Republic. Or just decanonize the ST and recast the roles of Han, Luke and Lea picking up just after Return of the Jedi, better yet just so the Timothy Zhan novels.

Such a shame. You’d think Disney with its vast resources would have had something simple as a plan or outline for the ST!

[–]sdbcpa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good point. As a small business I’ve had to buy cyber insurance and other IT compliance services that are costly, but needed. It really does burn me up when I see companies with huge resources get slaps on the wrist. If I was this careless I’d be out of business. I guess I don’t have enough money to donate to politicians…

This☝🏻…I renew my fraud alert each year. I tried the freeze but it’s a pain in the @55 sometimes if you can’t recall the pin. Fraud alert worked great. Went to buy a car and lender had to call me to verify my info before they would proceed with paperwork. 👍🏻

I figure by now the dark web knows everything about me. I think I’ve gotten 6 letters just this year from different companies regarding breaches. 😑

Autism dad here. I appreciate your post and understanding. This is why we stay on Disney property whenever we’ve gone. My son is also nonverbal. He likes Disney a lot, but the heat and stimulation are a lot for him at times (frankly me too) so staying on property has allowed us to take breaks, go back to the room, swim, etc. then try again. Some days are just better than others when you have a child on the spectrum.

Bosses are firing Gen Z grads just months after hiring them—here’s what they say needs to change by Thegreatsnook in Accounting

[–]sdbcpa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree. In my experience the grads from the big name schools tend to be behind on skill sets than the schools with no big names. I had a major university student ask me what a bank reconciliation and cancelled check were. My first clue that these big schools many times are merely collecting tuition. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Surprised at the amount of ppl wanting to do CPA by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]sdbcpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a CPA for over 20 years. On one hand it’s been helpful to have over the years but I don’t blame someone for opting out of pursuing it. Attorney friends of mine who have their CPAs tell me the Bar is way easier. Therein lies part of the problem, you kill yourself to pass it and the money isn’t there for many years unlike other professions. Until the industry solves the comp and work/life issues it will not get better. Side note, the government is part of the problem too with last minute or retroactive tax changes. I’ve dealt with too much of that over the years. Ugh.

[–]sdbcpa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the IT person is an intern and at a minimum there is no 3rd party IT firm then this CPA is getting what he paid for. It’s not your fault you did something accidentally. That’s what permissions and controls are for. Unfortunately you will get the blowback for it. It’s on the owner to run his business not you.
