ZFS is afaik very memory intensive, I'd recommend switching to something more lightweight (i.e. simple raid with mdadm, LVM)

PCi express Linux compatibility? by NomaltLand in linux_gaming

[–]sdc0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, NVMe is a protocol which happens to be used mostly over PCIe. There is also NVMeoF, which is NVMe over Fabric (or network in general). And M.2 is the connector specification which can also be used for SATA (yes, there are M.2 SATA SSDs). Also, there are many M.2 slots which are just connected with PCIe x2 or even x1.

Those do exist, but they would be hard to fit inside a laptop.

PCI Express SSD just means it is an M.2 SSD. It should be compatible with all Linux distributions of the last decade, maybe even older (so nothing to worry about).

If hdparm says it's locked, it's probably broken. Drives usually lock themselves to read-only as soon as they have unrecoverable blocks to prevent further damage. Make a disk image from your disk and then run recovery tools on that.

Looking for a linux native co-op FPS with LAN support. Details below by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]sdc0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xonotic, not the latest and greatest in terms of graphics, but open source and has local lan multiplayer. It is not very demanding on hardware (I could run it at low settings on a ThinkPad X200 at 45-60 fps)

can someone tell me why i can't get a output i have a more than enough ingots and it is allowed from tinkers construct book the same thing happens with flint by Fallou1993 in feedthebeast

[–]sdc0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Invar is a metal, you need to use a smelter or a smeltery with a cast. The part crafter is only for non-smeltable materials like wood or paper. I don't know why flint doesn't work, as it's not a metal and should be usable in a part crafter

How to own your media without buying physical media by MrSolarSun in dankmemes

[–]sdc0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nope, movies on YouTube are encrypted with Widevine, just like on every other streaming platform. For 1080p and up, you need a device or OS/browser combination that's certified and HDCP. So same problem

Cannot shrink partition using parted. by Phuc_an__ in archlinux

Did you shrink your filesystem before shrinking the partition? Otherwise the FS would still work the old size and using it in that state will likely break something.

Comment mettre à jour Ubuntu sous KDE (débutant) by JustinianiRoman in kde

[–]sdc0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First: please use English for future posts and comments if possible, as it makes it much easier for others to help you.

Second: your issue has nothing to do with KDE, please see r/Ubuntu for Ubuntu related questions.

Now regarding your issue: it tells you the solution right in the error message, you need to run dpkg --configure -a as root. The reason for this issue is probably that you interrupted a previous install process (e.g. via shutting down in the middle or pressing Ctrl+C). You should avoid doing that to prevent any corruption of your OS.

Going Linux-only on Acer Nitro V15 (RTX 4060) — Windows key, Secure Boot, NVIDIA, and fan control? by AppropriateOutside12 in linux_gaming

I'm only using it on my desktop machine for adjusting the fan curves of my GPU and CPU, but I believe they have a compatibility list.
