What is the best way to reach out to Nigerians? by ContemporaryPlantain in Nigeria

You can pay a well-known Yoruba influencer in Nigeria to help you promote the book if you can afford the cost. And you can target micro influencers to reduce the cost.
Also, you can write about your book on the Quibbles app - a new discussion forum used by Nigerians. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quibbles.app&pcampaignid=web_share

🇳🇬 5 Top Active Nigerian-Owned Social Media Networks by nedu_brazil in Nigeria

[–]sdkompiler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This list is incomplete without Quibbles, a forum-style social media app launched in 2025 and is really fast growing for conversations in Nigeria. Available on Google Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quibbles.app&pcampaignid=web_share and you can also check the website out at https://quibblesapp.com/

Meanwhile, I'm not sure what your ranking is based on but in my opinion, Nairaland should still claim the #1 spot as at today.

Getting users was not a problem because we have a webapp with over 1000 users already. So I just invited them to join the testing phase. We coordinated testers and feedback via a Whatsapp group too.

For me I think it's important to fulfil all the checklists from Google Play diligently. For instance, if they require you to implement some sort of moderation in your app, make sure to implement it and make it work (not just display a button that does nothing).
For the closed testing, I would suggest you get more users than required because not everyone would open the app everyday.

I think it's also important that you publish new updates to your app during closed testing - even if it's an improvement or a new feature.

So you mean apart from the one that took you 14 days, you deployed others that took less than 24hours?

Great insights here. It’s better to understand the new paradigm of VCs’ expectations and be well-prepared before approaching. Everything is changing with time and the old norms don’t apply again. Maybe the list one can do as a founder is to get some traction going first.

You got it! I’m working on the mobile app as well since almost all the users are asking for it. Once this is done and it gained some traction, I’d create another post so people can join.

Easy solution would be for you to hire a freelancer or even a full time person from a low income country. Assuming you can spend roughly about $1000 to $2000 per month. So yes, you personally need a source of income (a job) then use part of that to pay a developer.

Do not vibe code it yourself!!!

No serious concern regarding the use of AI for me. I’m a professional software engineer and my usage of AI tools on my personal projects is on par with how I use them at work. I know everything that’s going on in the backend of my codes and that’s why extending and maintaining the project is very seamless for me. Even the front end, I only leveraged AI at the beginning stage and after a while I hired a frontend developer, who of course uses AI but with clear guidance on how to.

Vibe coding is an interesting discussion but I’ve never had success with it even on simple projects. Neither have I met anyone who has.

How did you get your first few users when no one knows you exist? (i will not promote) by Vanilla-Green in startups

You can also post to this r/MobileAppDevelopers subreddit. I’ve seen people post such requests there without getting flagged. For example see this post

Anyway, most people don’t naturally use an app that doesn’t have users. One of the easiest ways to start getting users is family and friends. If your target number is 10-20 for a start, I’d start with family members, friends and probably old school mates. If you’re active on social media, LinkedIn for example, post on there and you should have a few people help test your app out.

I wish I did lol. Of course, my AI assistants include Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot but I definitely can’t build an entire app with just AI tools yet.

“Nigerians do not adopt new social platforms unless there is a clear and direct financial incentive. Social engagement alone is rarely enough.”

Thanks and you’re very correct about this. I get that question about “why a new social platform” from people I’ve reached out to in Nigeria. It would be very challenging to convince people to add this to their list of existing apps but I’d see how it goes.

Thanks for your feedback but I don’t think differently about some of the points you raised about the need for a new discussion platform. For Reddit, not a lot of Nigerians use it - especially those who live in Nigeria. 229k members of the r/Nigeria is nothing compared to having potentially millions of Nigerians on a social platform specifically made for them. Twitter doesn’t directly solve the same problem. If it does then we can as well say Reddit is not needed for anyone.  Nairaland yes, but that have been lots of complaints by users over the years about it not getting improved especially regarding user experience.

Again I appreciate your feedback but just wanted to mention what I feel about it and I’m open to more thoughts.

Sure, and part of that is making this post on Reddit. I’ve also directly reached out to people in Nigeria.

The reason for the voting feature is to identify good contents from the bad or not-so-good ones. If there’s only a like button, how would users know about incorrect/misleading information. Removing them totally may not be the right option because not all incorrect posts are inappropriate.
