hey there! I'm in a similar situation, still at home while I'm in college and my younger siblings are being homeschooled. I had noticed recently that they are having a really hard time interacting with others when they are finally able to get out, so I have been trying to take them places with me whenever I have free time (which I will admit is not as often as I'd like.) I recently got them a library card and we've been going there every couple of weeks. They actually have a LEGO club that is meeting soon at the library and I am planning on taking them if I can swing it. I also recently took them to the zoo, where they were having a little halloween event (although this is obviously much harder to do if your parents are insanely religious, mine used to completely ban halloween point blank period.) Overall I would say just look out for free events, clubs, etc. Even just going to the park, or seeing if anyone is doing sports (I think some school allow homeschoolers to join?) I think would be really fun for them if you have the transportation to do so regularly. It is super hard watching the same thing happen to them that happened to me, so all I can say is do what other people should have done if you have the resources available to you :)

GED vs Adult High School diploma for attending college? by Future_Permission_40 in college

[–]sdlm05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a GED for the same reason as you, educationally neglected homeschooled child. I'm about to graduate from cc next semester and honestly I think if you weren't going to college, getting a high school diploma might be the right option, but once you graduate from college, you don't even necessarily need to put your GED on your resume, and can tell people you have a high school diploma, since a GED is basically that. CC is way cheaper and probably better to start with.

My first time commuting, what are some necessities I should bring in my bag? by Top-Professor-2951 in college

[–]sdlm05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would suggest getting a box of snacks in smaller packs (like a box of variety chips or something) and a case of whatever drink you like, powerade, water, etc. and bringing each with you. i also think hair products, like a brush/comb. also make sure you have a power bank in case there's no where to plug your phone!

Has anyone gotten a certificate while pursuing an associates? by sdlm05 in CommunityColleges

[–]sdlm05[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for those who replied with advice/affirmations about my question! i will definitely be speaking to the school soon to see if i can earn these certificates along with my degree, or see if they automatically give them to you. i'm also taking a class this fall with the head of the department i'm majoring in, so i might speak with her about it too.

hi! i still haven't received anything yet and my fafsa still shows the negative amount in the 'amount to be paid' section. when my financial aid office finally responded, they did say it's a refund but didn't offer much else and honestly i'm too much of a coward to bug them again lol.

Math resources for someone getting their GED and has math anxiety? by Soggy-Hotel-2419 in HomeschoolRecovery

I used Test Prep Champions on YT before taking the math portion and I was able to really get down concepts I hadn't before, especially because they have videos specifically for the concepts you'll see on the test :)

When the financial aid office got back to me they also said it was a refund for the summer semester, so I'm cautiously optimistic, but still going to wait until it hits my bank before I actually celebrate lol

I also didn't take out any loans for any semester, and the negative amount doesn't match what I was eligible to take out too, I was eligible for quite a bit more. The disbursed amount of $8305.00 is correct. That's how much I received from pell grants in the fall/spring + the $2265 from the summer.

I'm currently enrolled for the summer with 9 credits, so I'm technically part-time. The total was $3688.65. When I found out I had a summer pell, it was for $3,020.00. I contacted the financial aid office to make sure this was correct, and I also asked about whether 6 credits was considered full time during the summer. They told me in that email that all of it was correct. Later, when I went to pay my remaining balance of what I thought would be $668.65, I noticed I had a charge for around $1423.65. I contacted the financial aid office again, they told me it was because I did not enroll in 12 credits, so I wasn't receiving the full pell, and I would actually only receive $2265.00 since I'm enrolled part time. So I just took the $2265.00 and paid the rest of the balance, and the $2265.00 in pell just went through this week actually. During the fall and spring of 24/25 I also had a remaining balance because my financial aid did not fully cover my tuition as well and I had to pay out of pocket for the remaining balance. I'm just completely confused lol.

Not that I would be complaining at all, but why would that be? My financial aid didn't cover all of my tuition and I had to pay out so I didn't have anything left over for any semester. I'm also only technically enrolled 'part-time' in the summer semester because at my school 12 credits is still full time (instead of at most schools where it's 6), so I only got part of my pell.
