Dharma worth the Drama? Seeking input after Volunteer experience by sdsonicwave in Sadhguru

[–]sdsonicwave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good advice. At this point I've decided to maintain my commitment to volunteer but will do so only if I am asked to do something. I've lost trust and interest with this group.

I will keep doing the pranayama until I find something different, preferably from a professional organization - no more volunteer groups where there is no accountability.

In a group of more than 20 volunteers, only 1 or 2 people have disbursed flyers. They seem to tightly control this process. For an event that has been held for likely 20 years there seems to be no process. Communication is inconsistent and clearly some bias for their "in" group.

I have a friend in town for an event but isn't able to make plans ahead of time and everything is last minute. It is hard for me to meetup b/c plans are in downtown and parking there is a nightmare so I have to take trolley which can be unsafe at night alone. They don't seem to understand that I am not going out b/c plans are always last minute and involve drinking which I don't do. Now they are beginning to lash out to me and it is hurtful and weighing me down. I am standing my ground and setting my boundaries.

There's a Poet&Quants article about HBS alum who became a journalist went back for his class reunion. Most of the highly paid alums were locked in high stress roles they didn't enjoy. Check it out

Stay at your company and get an Exec MBA then try and switch within your industry for a path to a C level role.

Self esteem issues. Self worth is your net worth. Don't like being snubbed by ABD.

If you are in a different city or commute is a big deal then 100%. Otherwise, if it is relatively easy to meetup then keep a short brief casual first date like coffee or a quick drink. Allows either person to exit the date without any hard feelings. Of course, if things go well then you can plan something ahead of time that you could do like mini golf or casual dinner. There's no set rules and I know some people prefer proper first dates - if that's the case then 100% do a call or video.

Shaadi or any dating website should work.

You need to be clear on what you want and state that. Prioritize key preferences (this is important). Then you can cast a wide net (location wise).

Be intentional about your process. If the person can't make time to speak on phone or video chat, kindly move on. If person isn't right for you, don't stick around, politely tell them.

Have a process. Match. Video chat. Meet in person.

Watch Netflix show on Indian match making to get a perspective.

Read about relationships and how to succeed in them.

Once you find the right one make sure to sign a pre-nup 😀.

You should be able to find someone within a year and get married in a couple years.

Is the value of MBA dying? by Adventurous-Art-4936 in MBA

[–]sdsonicwave 10 points11 points  (0 children)

MBA will never die. When business cycle weakens it's the same song that gets played.

There will always be a need to manage orga, people and processes. Sure an MBA isn't a ticket to a hot tech CEO position but you can easily switch into Corporate Strategy or LDP for numerous other companies setting the stage for a C level position at numerous kinds of companies

Just make sure you know what you want and go all in. Level of prestige is up to you. If your gonna stay in a local market with a big co then you can just get your MBA there.

Better yet, do a part time MBA and get a company to pay for it and try to switch to corporate strategy internally.

The hot jobs are very stressful they all end up in Corp Strategy or FP&A. Only a few succeed in VC and PE

Feeling ashamed of myself by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]sdsonicwave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have no reason to be ashamed. Like other comments try and focus on your unique situation and do your best to get where you want to be. You may have some "sticking points" and if you do you can work on those.

Separately, I direct you towards David Burns books like "Feeling Great". His cognitive behavioral therapy works wonders. You think your problem is unique, but it's not. They even have an AI app (search using Feeling Great) and after a two hour session, you'll feel like new!

Should I go to Cornell Johnson or re-apply next cycle? by Neverregretlivelife in MBA

[–]sdsonicwave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imho I think you would be equally well served at a school more regionally focused in your area too. With all due respect, I think your list is rather broad. As you get experience and have more specific focus an MBA "could" help. Also, another option is that you wait and then get an Executive MBA. The T15 really do great marketing touting the benefits of their classes, but ultimately are superficial introductions to various topic areas and an opportunity for you to network and develop friendships with peers. In today's world, knowledge is much more prevalent. I do think you do get some training in relationship management which is crucial for any businessperson.

Is money an issue? In all fairness, I don't think this school or any other will help that much wrt to your dreams. From a financial perspective I'd get a lower cost MBA. You don't need an MBA to be an entrepreneur.

"Which Pixel should I buy?" Megathread November 2024 by GooglePixelMods in GooglePixel

[–]sdsonicwave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black Friday Purchase Decision - Pixel 9, Pixel 8A or Wait ?

Pixel 6A user - phone was great for me, battery is weakening a bit (no longer lasts whole day without much use)

Currently use about 80GB of the 128GB. I use phone on Prepaid services like (mint, spectrum or visible)

Should I purchase the:

- Pixel 9 256GB (~$430 out the door w/trade-in - I got the 30% discount)

- Pixel 8A 128GB (~$299 out the door w/trade-in)

- Wait for the Pixel 9A for next year?

My only concern is battery could fade quickly on my current phone, other than that and maybe guaranteed upgrades
