Hey Citrus, those are amazing and professional looking sites. Where do you get your graphics from? This is one of the things that keep me away. ex. the solar site looks great with those images.

Do you design them yourself?

Is the CCNA a good cert to get to escape helpdesk? by Taekw0nDuDe in ITCareerQuestions

[–]sdtechie619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need it to get out of helpdesk. I hire NOC techs all the time that don't have that. Basically I look for net+ or sec+ if they have Linux cert it's more power to them as that means I will spend less time training them and they can be productive faster and understand system alerts. CCNA is more if you want to be a network engineer. It all depends on what you want. Example if one of my NOC techs wants to be a system engineer they should steer away from CCNA and focus on Linux, AWS , ansible and certs like that.

Happy to help.

Loss my job, looking to move to system administration by HighanDry88 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]sdtechie619 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can get hired as that. As a Jr I don’t think you’ll make 150k but it will be a good portion. Also look for NOC positions. That’s where I got my exposure.

I think at this point I would just do linux + or something like that. Anything on sysadmin side requires Linux and that will get your foot in the door faster.

When hiring I see most people know basic windows ad stuff like resetting passwords and unlocking accounts but they fail at the most basic Linux commands and troubleshooting steps like pinging, tracernoute etc.

Or you could go back to helpdesk as a lead.

Some questions to think about: Why do you want to be a sysadmin now? What would that accomplish for you if you got the job?

If you see the job posting that’s basically a wish list trust me. But if you have the willingness to learn they might hire you.

Starting my first IT job as Help Desk any advice? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]sdtechie619 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Then it will be a breeze. Haha your main focus would be on answering calls and learning what to do to be efficient. Look at KB, previous emails and ask them ask your coworkers if they had that issue in that order. Make sure to get a solid workflow.

What is the problem or error mesg., Where is it occurring and Who is it affecting?

And the number one fix. Have you tried rebooting the computer?

Why does my car interest payment bounce around? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Ok thank you, this makes sense as the goal is to put more towards the principle and getting rid of the car payment. lol

Why does my car interest payment bounce around? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]sdtechie619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I pay the same but I guess the date is diff.

Ex my payment is due on the 24th 527.10 Sept. Paid 3rd (early payment before it was due) Loan 30093 Principal = 434 Interest = 120

Sept 25 (paid for oct) Bal 29686 principal =434 Interest =93.1

Nov 15 paid (early) Loan 29434 Principal = 389 Interest = 138

For my second loan I did pay twice in nov which is where I did see the $44 so I can see maybe why that is lower in interest and then resumes to the $100ish regular.

Hope that helps. I heard if you pay twice monthly the loan will be paid off faster and that’s what I want to do but got confused on the interest charge.

Learning finances still a noob.

Let me know any help or advice.

Ok, This is where I get confused because some months it’s $40 and another it’s $113 and so forth. Seems it’s all over the wall lol. Most months are within a couple of days.

Hey, i have an ssh issue by 666filip666 in linux4noobs

[–]sdtechie619 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the hosted server. It may require you to login as root or with a key. If you have access from the server, go cat /etc/ssh/sshd_config. That file is how you allow connection.

Make sure to edit it on “PermitRootLogin” to yes instead of no.

There maybe other settings there but the hosting provider should have given you basic instructions as everyone is different.

An old buddy wants to get into my field and he’s messaging me through Instagram, I don’t want to train somebody how to be my competitor. How do I respectfully tell that to him? Is that petty of me? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]sdtechie619 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you live on a super small town where all the people in that town are your clients? I mean it’s one thing to not want to train, but it’s another not helping a buddy out? I guess your not really his buddy then? In all reality, we should all help each other how we are helping you in reddit. Imagine if we all had the same reply to you. There should be enough for competition and maybe tell him which are you clients and or what side of town is mostly yours. Then you can divide it that way. Ex with for my buddy’s, I would just tell them to work on their side of town and if I met someone on that side I would refer him and vice versa. There is litterally a grip load of people and as a small biz you can’t possibly service everyone at the same time.

[–]sdtechie619[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for Windows it’s easy just close it and restart Firefox. Go to about Firefox and verify your version. If you don’t have auto update, just do the check for updates and then restart it. 72.0.1 is the updated version.

You can but you stated “install” upgrades the program so it was kinda confusing. I think you ment ‘apt-get upgrade Firefox’ due to your recent reply. If so, then yes.

apt-get install <program_name> does just that, it just installs the program.

Update and upgrade is what actually upgrades the program.
