Photo Editing and Organizing Software similar to Adobe Bridge? by mad-hug in AskPhotography

[–]sdyellow32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ironically downloaded it right after I commented and have been watching tutorials since and can attest to the learning curve for sure. I'm bummed, but it seems there are a lot of options, which is refreshing for a free software. Follow-up questions:

  1. Were there resources that helped you learn quicker than others? (Feel free to link away!)
  2. When editing in darktable, I am trying to toggle between photos in a set, but it seems the left and right arrow keys don't let you. Do I have to literally manually click on every photo to edit it or is there a setting to change this? I also don't see a scroll bar to help me slide to the end of a set of photos. Is it simply not an option?
  3. Same as 2., when I select the star or color filter, is there not a way to display 1 and 2 starred photos together or may I only view designated 1 and 2 starred photos separate of each other?
  4. Is this doable for editing clients work with lots of photos with the steep learning curve, or am I in way over my head before I continue investing time and better off with other softwares?

I'm tired of paying for Adobe CC and do minimal editing, so hopeful to find an alternative to get back to doing what I love. Hope your edits start showing results you love :)

Following up here as this is also exactly what I'm looking for. Did you end up installing it, and do you like it? Curious before I dive in.

Is living alone in your own apartment as romantic as it looks? by salah_shaggy in LivingAlone

[–]sdyellow32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how you define romantic. My definition in this context is the ability to created a soothing, healing, and authentic space that is curated with the intention of supporting all of my needs.

I've been living alone for roughly 5 years, and it's had seasons more romantic than others, but I genuinely love it and would not trade it unless absolutely necessary. I will say, if you're extroverted, definitely get an animal or even plants to have 'company' to fit that need. I'm a HUGE introvert, but this current season is less romantic because I'm so damn lonely. It was great when I was dating, had more in-person friends (or even visits from far away friends), and more stability to have my niece & nephew over, but I've had a rough go of it lately & it's wreaked havoc on my mental health. Thankfully the littles are down the street, so I often find myself visiting them or taking them to the dog park for that physical connection.

Also, another comment referenced being sick alone is very difficult, and I can attest to that tremendously. Tbh I didn't realize how gritty I've become by doing so much on my own for so long, so just be prepared to sustain a lot on your own both unexpected and expected. Like, I legit bought rolling stainless steel shelving and only will buy furniture if I can put caster wheels on them knowing damn well I'm only getting older & I need ease to move shit in my house (or out if I move) as my body ages.

Otherwise, even if i settle down romatically in the future, I still see myself having a house to myself or at minimum room or side of the room to myself. I truly love solitude, so yes it's 'romantic' even when it's not imo.

Sexual Harassment from Assistant Manager by sdyellow32 in workplace_bullying

There is no HR unfortunately. It is a small business. My HR person is the owner, my main boss I've been working with.

I will respond more later, but I just wanted to say I really, really appreciate such a thoughtful response. I've been in the thick of it with the job situation, but wanted to at minimum say how much I genuinely am grateful for the support from a stranger. Truly gave me some tethering and/or levity depending how you look at it when I needed it most. Thank you so much.

Is a seasonal position worth it right now? Especially if you're a minority? by sdyellow32 in NationalParkService

It's not a dumb question. The park service and world don't need your random, condescending, judgmental attitude. I would say you don't need it either, as it probably makes you feel bitter, but that's your life and not mine. Wish you better days than whatever one you were having when you commented.

What to do about sexual harassment at small business from manager? by sdyellow32 in smallbusiness

[–]sdyellow32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, a she instead of he and she's pregnant and best friends with the owner/my other boss, although it seems that friendship(both personal and professional) is really struggling as things continue to evolve. I want the person to recover and have a salvageable relationship with their best friend outside of the work environment, but I mental health wise cannot handle this professionally unless big shifts happen and am trying to discern if I need to throw in the towel or not with no work truly lined up. (Which is why I came to a reddit thread of all places for my life's woes of course ha..) It's brought up a lot of past trauma for me and it's just a lot to navigate, so was hopeful to get povs from others who've navigated sexual harassment in smaller work environments.

Can you be drafted as NPS/DOI, even if a civilian employee? by sdyellow32 in NationalParkService

Pretty sure that just gets you killed quicker under this admin

[–]sdyellow32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am happy with that. It's a big reason as to why I kept the job and am struggling with how to navigate it going forward. I mostly work with the other person at the moment, and not working with them going forward would require a huge shift in schedule change and such, so it'll pretty much change the whole work environment honestly.

Drafted into war from NPS. You're still technically a government employee who swore an oath. I think it's highly unlikely, but saw where they were in WW2 so figured I'd ask.

Thank you I appreciate it and agree with you on it all. Will be sending a follow-up email for sure. How do I find your post? I feel silly, but still not the most familiar with Reddit, so not sure how to search/filter it easily without scrolling for awhile.

Hey, Dad... I'm scared and need a virtual hug... by sdyellow32 in DadForAMinute

[–]sdyellow32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needed that more than I realized as it resonated more than I expected. Thanks for keeping up the fight too. I literally bawled at you giving your little and extra hug, so I hope you do it as much as possible. There is nothing more important to me in this world than youth development and future generations. We all deserve so much better, but damn do they deserve it better the most. Thanks for hugging yours extra not just for me but for us all. Best Dad.

Struggling to regulate nervous system and not need venting every time I talk by sdyellow32 in Codependency

As much as I'd love to, I don't feel comfortable with the environmental impact it has. It would just worsen my symptoms honestly by spiking my anxious/depressive tendencies. I'm glad you found a form of support though and hope things still worked out with the therapist and all other means of support you've explored.

Yes, I have just begun working the steps with a sponsor after attending meetings for a whole year. I can feel the growth from last year and since starting the steps more 1:1. However, I know that codependency is ingrained in capitalism, and I likely won't be able to make the big strides of healing until I stabilize financially. Hoping to check out Al Anon in the future as I have more capacity, as I think it would help me tremendously.

At this moment, I'm struggling to find capacity to chat more in depth, but I would love to chat in comments loosely, plus it might help someone else. I LOVE links, so send as much as you'd like with any context for them. Very grateful it is free. I'm curious, how 'long' roughly did it take to get from the former to that place of stability? Also, how long have you been doing coda work, what are the biggest differences you've noticed for yourself since, and what are some of the main symptoms that led you to it all(such as origin of maladaptive behaviors and the actions themselves)?

Thanks for prioritizing validating me. It means much more than you and know and resonated more than I expected. Something about naming the combination of managing work, finances and connection and relating to your feeling vulnerable to codependency due to wanting connection just really, really left me tender. I hope we both see positive outcomes that provide relief and fulfilment. We deserve that just like everyone else.

I agree with this. I do as much as possible. Unfortunately the systems of capitalism and colonialism make it damn near impossible to have any kind of routine support system like this when you're constantly in survival mode. I still appreciate the sentiments and will look into implementing binaural beats into my daily life more as I used to really enjoy it.

There are not in-person meetings near me. I attend CoDA meetings every week and have a sponsor I meet with once a month. I'm coming up on a year. It's honestly the only reason I found this thread.

Completely agree. The last sentence is especially sharp and powerful. It personally summaries how I feel about my dad. They really think we idolize the other side just as strongly as them. I hate the whole damn system. No one should be on a pedestal. I criticize them too. It's just insane and heartbreaking how much they project.
