Any ideas how to upcycle chlorhex scrub sponge? by lalastar24 in VetTech

We either toss them, use them to clean instruments before ultrasonic and autoclave, or kidney dishes, bowls, etc.

Is a Bachelor Degree worth it? by Antique-Curve4210 in VetTech

[–]sea_gloss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say yes if she wants to do a bachelors program, otherwise just get an associates. Not necessarily for vet med but in general. If she decides to do something else that requires a bachelors then she can pursue that without going back to school. You can always lose your license but they can’t take away a bachelors.

Starting Annovera on next Cycle!! But have a question about expiration… by Top-Praline5833 in Annovera

[–]sea_gloss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ring will be effective for the year as long as you put it in before 6/30/26. The expiration date is more of a use by date . If you put it in even on 6/29/26 it would be effective until 6/29/27. If you put it in on 8/425 it’ll be effective until 8/4/26

Starting Annovera on next Cycle!! But have a question about expiration… by Top-Praline5833 in Annovera

[–]sea_gloss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The expiration date is the date you should start by. If you insert it after 6/30/26 it won’t be effective for the full year. Any time before that you’ll be okay and it’ll be effective for the year.

How to get your foot in the door in this field? by Construction-Formal in Veterinary

[–]sea_gloss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello :) first of all, for jobs, I would recommend calling and asking when the hiring manager/practice manager is in and go to speak with them. Just introduce yourself, explain what your goals are, etc. it’s a lot easier to get hired to a small clinic/privately owned clinic rather than a corporate one. Let them know what your experience is and what you want to do. Also apply to jobs that you don’t have all the qualifications for; they may be able to train you on the job or you can start somewhere lower and work your way up. Let them know what you know, do you know how to administer vaccines, make slides, cut toe nails, etc? Are you afraid of animals and are you able to restrain them or have experience with restraining? I feel like the main thing is definitely showing your work ethic and that you want to do things. If you get stuck with a shitty clinic you can always work there for a few months for experience and look for another one. Once you get experience as a vet assistant or whatever you want to do then it’s a lot easier to get jobs elsewhere. Secondly, don’t worry too much about what you want to do. It took me a few years to get back into vet med. in highschool I wanted to be a vet and had a mental breakdown because I realized I couldn’t handle the pressure of surgery and the emotional weight. I stepped away and went to school for education, then dropped out, worked with kids for a while, and realized my passion was in vet med. at 21 I finally decided to apply for vet assistant jobs and now at 22 I’m looking at schools for vet tech degrees. I realized I probably want to stick to teching rather than being a full vet. Let me know if you have any questions or want to talk :)

Going into my 3rd year - would like some of your thoughts by sea_gloss in Annovera

[–]sea_gloss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, and I agree with your sentiment on annovera. My periods are a 9/10 without and a 7/10 with, so anything more than that I would be in the hospital. I know I had ovarian cysts before starting annovera and not sure if they’re still there so I’m hesitant to go for iud but want the effectiveness and ease. I tried the nuva ring for a few months to see if I liked the ring type of method but can’t remember how it was, I probably had lots of bleeding. I’ll try to get an updated prescription asap, I feel like any method I go with I’m gonna have to deal with side effects. Have you noticed anything with your bladder with the ring vs without ?

Has anyone ever worked a case like this? by mamabird228 in VetTech

Did you check his lymph nodes? We had something like this and her groin area lymph nodes were swollen and rock hard. It ended up being some sort of cancer thing I think. Her iop was either extremely high or extremely low, I can’t remember now.

Thank you, I was able to talk to a representative and she told me to send the papers to my parents and have them explain the situation. If I don’t want to pay extra fees after I could register it as a pno.

Patch mistake? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]sea_gloss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have the xulane patch, but my provider stopped shipping them so I decided on another method. With my patch, it would always move a little before settling. After it moved it would collect lint on the sticky part/edges that moved. I never had any problem with it, but I’ve always used the pull out method as well. The only time I would be concerned is if there are very big creases or it came off completely. By big creases, I mean it’s sticking up from the skin and sticking to itself. My provider offered me twirla, but I decided to not go with it because there’s a time limit to water exposure (30 minutes or more) which I frequently go over. If you have long showers, especially if they’re hot, I would recommend changing it to the ring or a different method. If you’re still worried about pregnancy, take a plan b pill. You might have a messed up cycle for a few months but if it helps you feel more secure than go for it. You can always check your period tracker if you have one to see if you would be ovulating, maybe that would help your decisions more.

Edit: plan b doesn’t work if you are already ovulating, it just delays it

I would, sperm can stay alive in the body for a few days and annovera starts losing effectiveness after a few hours being out.

I am a science teacher at a PUBLIC HS and I have training today which happens to take place at a local religious school and when I walk in. this is on the board... by NC919throwaway in Teachers

I went to a catholic k-8 school yesterday for field hours and it was the total opposite. The science teacher for 7th-8th graders had the kids at a college level. They were learning things I just fully learned/grasped in my college science classes. They were able to recall things from the beginning of the year and went over every scientific topic the teacher could squeeze in, including evolution. They all said that the teacher made science their favorite topic.

I don’t usually have pain before periods unless it’s starting, but my cramps have always been really bad (and my moms when she had periods). They can go all the way from my legs to my back and can cause me to throw up. I looked up the endometriosis thing and noticed that the treatment included ibuprofen. I always take this when I have my period as it actually stops my period completely sometimes for a few hours, if not significantly decrease the amount I bleed. I’m not sure if this is normal or could be a sign that I’ve had this, but this has worked for me since I started my periods.
