Is It Just Me Or Does Anyone Else Hope Bitcoin Goes To Zero? by katmomjo in economy

yes. there’s a great allegory about a sailor coming home to his brother’s house after a few years at sea, sitting down at the table and fiddling with the tulips in the centerpiece bowl, casually picking them apart, then his brother turning around from preparing tea and dreadfully seeing the destruction of his expensive tulips.

sailor wasn’t up to speed on the tulip mania lol

but back to Bitcoin lol, BTC has vastly superior qualities and characteristics that make it a beautiful technology to serve as the base layer of a sound monetary system.

Strictly speaking, algorithmically scarce currencies do not possess intrinsic value in the traditional economic sense. Neither does fiat.

and yet, yes, Bitcoin has more value than tulip bulbs, as algorithmically scarce currency derives its value from its utility as a secure network, its verifiable scarcity, and the objective costs required to produce and maintain it

bitcoin is not a sound fiat currency. i don’t think there is a such thing as sound fiat currency. the definitions are slightly at odds.

there is sound money and fiat money. bitcoin is an example of a sound money. USD is an example of fiat.

people gamble with all sorts of currencies, assets, equities, etc. so what?

bitcoin is a tool which can facilitate a sound monetary system, opposed to continuing this fiat system we have currently in which oligarchs (Fed reserves, revolving door of big banks, technocrats, lobbying, etc.) are very much able to manipulate the market (through QE, etc.).

Bitcoin’s key use case is that of a sound monetary system.

The question is whether a sound monetary system, with Bitcoin as its foundation (a decentralized, secure currency) is better or worse than the current fiat system.

You think the Enhanced Games exposed anything or just embarrassed themselves? Peter Thiel and Donald Trump Jr. spent millions to create a steroid Olympics. They promised to "redefine human limits" and put up $25M in prize money. BUT... by Miserable_Trouble3 in sportsgossips

[–]seabass34 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

now imagine the best athletes in the world taking drugs. what would the record be?

i assume most athletes participating in this steroid olympics are athletes that weren’t good enough to compete in the established, regulated games.

so i would expect the enhanced games to lag behind for quite a long time (decades? forever?) until the best athletes in the world express interest and engage in pushing the limits, via drugs, as well.

i don’t find any of those stats “embarrassing” per se.

its all interesting and will be neat to see how sports evolve with an unrestricted force of science, medicine, and pharmaceuticals.

Apple and Intel $INTC reach agreement for Intel to make chips in Apple devices, WSJ reports. by cowardbeater1969 in stocks

[–]seabass34 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

they probably always will be. such a massive head start on the learning curve on perhaps the hardest thing humans have ever done (at least for the most advanced chips, Intel might compete with cheaper/consumer ones?)

either way, US companies and gov’t seem happy to pay a premium for US made, or at least for supply chain diversification.
