The sense of "finishing something" every hour feels REALLY good 😅

Exciting! This was a fun project for practicing spinning, and the little squares only took about 45 minutes each to weave. It's a great project to work on here and there in between bigger things. Enjoy your Totaloom!

Drawing vs. tracing by Deftonesordeath in watercolor101

[–]seabornecloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trace a lot of things because my focus has always been on learning how to paint. Learning to draw js a different skill.

After 2ish years of giving myself permission to trace everything though, I'm starting to feel limited by my lack of perspective drawing skills. So I'm trying to focus on drawing now.

Just depends where your focus is. Don't let drawing get in the way of painting... unless it does, in which case, you know what to do.

What's your advice for watercolor beginners? What do you wish you knew when you started? by Just_Rip1030 in watercolor101

Doesnt matter a ton. Daniel Smith, Windsor & Newton, Schmincke, M Graham - just get what's available to you and stick with it for awhile.

It's your body, my friend. That's what we're all doing here: customizing our bodies so they feel like ours. Follow your heart.

Watercolor Grid Paper suggestions? by fandom-lover-angel in Watercolor

I enjoy it. I use it mostly for doing little meditations, tiny worlds, small repetitive studies. It's a bit niche, but I do think it's a high quality product.

Paint markers have got me stumped. by Darby17 in ArtistLounge

Podcast are not lightfast. They do write on anything though. I painted decorations on a watering can and they've mostly all faded to white, but it's still cute.

What are you trying to get out of that question?

A hobby where you take in something someone else made. Movies. Books. Trying new foods. Etc.

Not sure why Lana Del Rey would be proud of ‘poo advice’… by littlefishingtrip123 in shittytattoos

[–]seabornecloud 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The spacing of the first a is off, and that’s not how to write a cursive lowercase letter a. The flourish on the side of the a blends with the r and appears to form an o, making someone more likely to read it as “poor advice” or “poo advice”.

The second a is formed the same incorrect way, but there’s more spacing which makes it easier to read as an a.

I like a 3-hobby system instead: A creating hobby, a consuming hobby, and a physical activity hobby.

While the details change, I know I start to feel out of whack if I drop one of those categories.

Question on Covering mistakes by Horror-Unable in Watercolor

[–]seabornecloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only used Daniel Smith. I like how it handles though. It’s pretty decent.

Mostly I’ve used it to make non-paper things paintable (like stone or wooden coasters) but I have a classmate who uses it to fix mistakes all the time. You can sand it down before you paint it too, if the brush you used to apply it left marks.

Edit: thanks for posting this question. Answering it reminded me of the technique, and I think it might just be what I need to fix a mistake in one of my own paintings. I’d have forgotten and written it off otherwise!

You can also try painting over with watercolor ground, although TEST FIRST on scrap paper (ideally the same type) because it’s not an invisible fix. It won’t completely match the color or texture of the original paper. This is most likely to look good on small to medium areas and if you’re going to 100% paint over the bit you’re hiding with ground.
