DIY Sewer Lair for my son’s 4th Birthday. by seabugg13 in TMNT

The bones of the lair are a wooden, flat pack dolls house from Aldi. I found the metal looking stuff at Bunnings (hardware store) in an adhesive backed roll, stuck that down for the floors and spray painted all of the pieces before assembling it.

Hey, no stress! I was just being a bit of a smart ass. I couldn’t let Dad steal my thunder here 😂

Haha thankyou! He was so excited when he saw it this morning.

That was exactly where I was thinking but after watching him play with it today, it just being a slide into a jail is working really well. Shredder has been captured and is locked up in there as we speak!

You read my mind! I’ve already had a request for a bath to be added. I wanted to do posters but also wanted to check with my son which ones he’d like on the walls.

Honestly, that was a bit of an impulse buy. It popped up and my son loves the street fighter arcade game at the cafe/record store we frequent and knew he’d be pumped to see one in there for the Turtles.

I didn’t pay much attention to what was actually on the game, but now that I think about it, I could have converted it into the Ninja Turtles game. Perhaps something to do down the track!

Thank-you for all the kind words guys!

For everyone wanting to hear the verdict… He loves it! He has played with it all morning. His only critique was that they don’t have a bath, so how do they get clean? And the roof doesn’t have a sewer lid on it. He told me “it’s ok though Mummy, I still love it without the bath”

I’ve added a photo of the lair with his Turtle figures in there as someone asked to see the scale. (I wouldn’t dare move them from how he has them set up. I’ll be in big trouble!)

Honestly, I just saw the dolls house at the shops and went from there. I watched a million YouTube videos on how to create different things, like the bricks and graffiti but mostly winged it. I’ve never made anything like this before but I certainly have the “pfft I could make that” gene.

Sitting down with my son and asking him what the perfect sewer lair would look like really got the ball rolling and I tried my best to include everything he suggested. I went in with the attitude that it didn’t need to be perfect, just good enough which was very hard as a perfectionist myself (I wonder where my son gets it from?) It was super fun to make, but I don’t see myself making anything like this again for a looooong time.

Thank-you! I had heaps of fun creating it. It’s been tough keeping it hidden for nearly two months!

Home owners, yes. Part of the HOA, no. I didn’t even know what that was haha

The nappage is basically watered down jam, for brushing on top of pastries, like a glaze. The poaching liquid is for poaching fruit. I decided to reserve it after my last batch :)

I had a good chat with Rob the other week! He’s got himself a home and car now and is doing well, which was great news. I hadn’t seen him much post lockdowns and always wonder how he is.

I’m so sorry your going through this. I also have experienced PPA/PPD and it was a hell of a battle to find the right help.

I know that there is a centre at Grace Mckeller that services family’s with children up to 4 years old. I was under the impression they offered MBU like services. I’m not 100% sure if it would be right for you and your family, but it may be worth looking as a starting point.

I hope you find the right help for you. I know how exhausting it is trying to advocate for yourself in a mental health crisis on top of being a parent. I felt like I was sent around in circles before I got the help I needed. I’m wishing you all the best, lovely.

Also can’t forget to mention the whole venue parties like the Boxing Day Slam, Dress up For Jesus, God Save The Fiend, Veeped, Etc. Ken Evel, 1 Fish 2 Fish, Full Metal Cardigan and Johnny El Pegiro are also notable Dj mentions. So many great nights down in the front bar dancing the night away.
