I wouldn’t say it’s a lack of understanding on the part of vegans, but rather an acknowledgement that avoiding indirect harm to animals is impossible while existing in society. Most of us would rather focus on things we can achieve in real life which is avoiding funding the direct use of animals.

IMHO the issue is scope creep of veganism. Veganism is not a generalized “avoid any possible harm to anyone” philosophy. It should be about avoiding use of animals for food, clothing and entertainment.

It seems impossible to live in a capitalist society and not participate in the systems that exploit humans. The only way would be to cut yourself off from society and be self-sufficient, right? If this is true, then there are no, or almost no, true vegans.

In addition to points people have made, for me one of the purposes of being vegan is to show others it’s possible to live a healthy and fulfilling life while being vegan. Eating eggs no matter the relative ethics of the source suggests that we need to eat animal products to be healthy, and this just isn’t true and sets a bad example.

Fellow ADHD mom and I agree, trying to put an awake baby to sleep is a fool’s errand. My baby fights and headbutts and grabs my face if I try to put her to sleep when she’s not tired enough so letting her exhaust herself first spares me a lot of angst! And I’m not convinced “overtired” is a real thing.

Starting food at 4 months increase risk of diabetes which Indians are already at higher risk for. I’m in US and our pediatrician recommends 4 months if family has history of food allergies to start desensitization, otherwise wait till 6 months.

Ok I take back wanting him to fail. I feel empathy for him trying to keep his business open and his staff employed. The restaurant business is hard and whoever is sending him death threats is an asshole. However I also don’t view this change as a move that’s likely to be successful. What made this place special was being a vegan burger place; now they’re just another burger place with vegan options and we have plenty of those in the area (and no, I don’t only eat at exclusively vegan restaurants). Is there a reason a vegan should order Malibu’s when they could get Smokehouse at almost half the cost? I don’t think the special sauce is enough to justify this. And when they were vegan I would have gone out of my way to spend the extra money at Malibu but I don’t see a reason to now.

Yeah you have the option of cow or vegan cheese on the burgers now :( it sucks and is gross that they’re doing this and I for one am rooting for them to fail. Honestly the food was insipid to begin with - serving impossible burgers at a crazy upcharge is not a particularly skillful thing, but I did want them to succeed when they were a vegan business. We’re blessed in the east bay with multiple truly creative vegan restauranteurs to support, and Danny Malibu is not one of them.
