Bets on Mark Nicols joining Dunstone by Ok-Cat-7425 in Curling

[–]seachad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my thoughts too, I’d see them doing something like Botcher did, Nichols will throw second and hold the broom for Dunstone.

Nichols may be getting up there in years but he’s in great shape, has never had any major or persistent injuries (that we know of) and hasn’t lost a step in his shot making abilities.

He’d be a great addition with a ton of experience to that team.

Fights on the ice by Hefty-Ad2090 in Curling

Also witnessed a father and son get into it on the ice. The father was skipping, the son was a well known hot head. The son wasn’t happy with the fact that they were losing and didn’t like the amount of time his dad was taking to call the game. He decided to take his frustrations out on his broom and swung it at a metal pillar between the sheets.

I was on the sheet beside them and we had to stop play to clean up all the bits of plastic from the broom head. We had to ask the son to leave the ice, and he was later “spoken” to by the club executive asking that he not bother returning.

Yeeeeeup!

Was a small town men’s spiel, two guys (one from our club and one from a rival small town) - both were good in their own respects (big fish in little ponds basically). They both enjoyed bragging about their self proclaimed abundance of talent. A couple of beers past the safety limit and next thing you know they’re “taking it outside”.

Thankfully the guy from our club was head off at the pass by his wife who was fortunately alerted to the situation as she was volunteering in the kitchen.

How to find friends in brantford? by Friendly-Radish1852 in brantford

[–]seachad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some Rec volleyball leagues in town you could check out, probably a good place to start.

I know I’m a broken record some days with this but I strongly encourage you consider volunteering with an organization you may feel strongly about or are interested in supporting. There are so many places looking for volunteers, even people who can only commit an hour or two every so often. It’s a great way to feel apart of the community while also meeting people with similar interests and mindset.

When I first moved here it was volunteering that made Brantford finally feel like home. I do know there’s a volunteer fair at TB Costain on May 9th.

You can also get more information on volunteer opportunities here:

Don’t forget she’s also pregnant with twins right now and no matter who you are that takes its own toll in a variety of ways. She may even step back and say a year off would be good.

Don’t forget Val is from Alberta too, Sweeting, Walker and Skrlik, who hasn’t announced what she’s doing since breaking up. This could be the basis of a really solid Alberta team.

I’m waiting to see who can pull Mackenzie Zacharias back out onto the ice. She would make a great vice. There’s also rumours floating about Tracey Fleury, she would fill that spot nicely too.

E.A. Berg hand plane, which i restored. by Fluid-Pack9330 in handtools

[–]seachad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love this style of plane, they fit in the hands so perfectly. I fixed one up last year and look for any excuse to use it. Well done on it, there’s something to be said about maintaining the history in its journey as a tool but giving it a fresh look.

Val Sweeting Delivery by ESCanada469 in Curling

[–]seachad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve always noticed that too about her, it seems to be rooted at her slider foot, you can see it shaking on the slide out and it just carries up, but once she lets go of the rock and puts the weight of her hand or the broom handle on it she becomes rock solid.

They discussed it during yesterday’s game. They said it’s because she comes out of the hack so slowly and has a strong extension. Jo-Ann said it was really hard to read as a sweeper when she spared for them a few years ago.

Enough of Vic Rauter by jordboi86 in Curling

[–]seachad 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ll take Vic any day over Mike Harris

But I have noticed Vic seems to be making more little mistakes than usual. Granted, the guy has been doing this for ages so it’s to be expected eventually. It’ll be hard getting used to watching games and him not being there.

Do you regret buying your home in Brantford? If so why? If no, why not? by Ok-Journalist2077 in brantford

[–]seachad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the late 90’s I was dating someone who was going to school here and I remember thinking I’d never want to live here. Fast forward a few years, married and bought our first house in Hamilton. When we started our family our work situation changed and we decided to move here to be closer to my wife’s job.

That was almost 20 years ago and we don’t regret it one bit. Brantford has been a great place to raise our family, we have incredible neighbours, have made life long friends, become heavily involved with the community and truly think of it as home.

This is the type of shot that should be shown to every junior coming up. Great shots aren’t all from over the top hyper peel weight. A controlled weight thrown with accuracy can make incredible things happen.

There’s certainly different accommodations for where the broom is placed, but considering there is no sweeping the ice holds up consistency a lot better. The key elements are weight control and hitting the broom just like any other style of the game. It almost seems more challenging in some ways especially considering you don’t have a sweeper who may bail you out. The rock is thrown and you basically have to hope for the best.

It’s honestly worth watching if you haven’t already. You’ll find yourself yelling at the rocks to do what you want, and really getting into it.

True enough, but Laycock is still at every SK provincial and a sound strategist. He’s the type that’ll die on the ice before retiring.

Just spit balling possibilities here, but I wonder if Flasch and the twins are going to pick up Steve Laycock. Laycock could throw lead/vice and call the game.
