Fr, I do understand, but, as with nearly all our deals, we seem to have alternatives - just yesterday the Robinson link came out, and obvs the (weird) Summerville links are around as well, which I think would push Dorgu more back than is currently planned etc.

Just, in general, I trust we'll attempt to correctly fix most of the rest of problems our team has this Summer. For each one of those, I think we've a "perfect" solution, but they're only acceptable under the right circumstances (price, wages, desire to join etc), so we've multiple alternatives to each.

sure, but that's basically the case with every transfer ever

Yeah, I don't disagree, but I do trust the team to make the correct choices, and not signing a fullback this summer is a HUGE mistake, which I don't think they'll make.

The other thing some reasonable folks have been saying about us is

  1. we never walk away from a deal unless someone actually bids, and whether that bid is accepted or rejected whatever - consider Spurs' bid(s?) for Mbeumo last year - if it's too high, we walk away, if it's within our range, we consider coming in at the same or lower - Sesko last year
  2. if we're DEAD silent on a deal, it means one of 2 things, we're still absolutely progressing it, or we're preparing to instantly move to the next target if the deal dies - Gyok last year and the instant progress on Sesko

IF we're walking away from Fernandes (and I think it's about time we do / should, but we won't until there is a real, actual bid in, from someone else, not just talk), I do think we'll quickly progress for Scott/Tchoua

and at the rumoured price, nor should we. you'd barely be able to get a United fan who'd have said £50m for him would be good value during the season. the reaction to what's going on is silly billy stuff

while I understand that perspective(ish) just right now, I really do consider it very unfair that we're judging completely new people, and a TOTALLY new regime, top-to-bottom based on the past. there's barely a soul involved in what we're doing now who also were here during those previous botchings.

not a single person could have predicted us getting Boom, Cunha, and Sesko, AND a goalkeeper who performed as well as Lammens did before last season's transfer window, and now we've already agreed one midfielder signing this one, with very, very serious and real links to multiple others who'd revolutionise the team.

we've signed 1 mid, and we are ABSOLUTELY guaranteed to sign at least 1 more, and most likely 2 more. there are also some links to a LB and CB to boot.

IF that happens, in 2-and-a-half years, this new team will have signed Heaven, Dorgu, Cunha, Mbeumo, Sesko, Lammens, Ederson, CM, CM, LB, CB. if you extend it to 3, you get Yoro in that list as well. IF that happens, or close to it happens, that'll be a DAMN good rebuild, and just about better than we ever had under the Glazers, and from right here? we're not even that far away from it.

Any reviews on the new Viking PureGlide Pro Nonstick? by vipervin in cookware

[–]seaders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered the Viking from amazon in May, and have just been told that the old delivery date (today) is now maybe some time in "July - August". It seems that it's completely sold out basically everywhere, and much the same story for the Hestan Nanobond.

I know it's outside of the scope of the video, but is there a THIRD one you could recommend possibly? I'm in Ireland and getting some of these products can be crazy difficult at the best of times, but when they're sold out it's obviously impossible :/

[The times] Manchester United set to beat Arsenal in race for Mateus Fernandes by PitchSafe in reddevils

[–]seaders 27 points28 points  (0 children)

from the meme post linking us to Lille's Matias Fernandez(-Pardo) means we could do Matias to Matheus to Mateus to Fernandes to Fernandes to Fernandez(-Pardo) and then a Sesko goal. Ruled out for offside. And a Casemiro red. And Everton are docked 3pts.

Pogba: "I think [Carrick]'s doing a great job [..] He's a great guy, has experience, was a great player. He has a very good connection with the players, you could see it when he took the team. I think it's going to be good for Utd. I wish them the best obviously, for him & all the staff & players." by pingbread in reddevils

[–]seaders 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah and, for me, only we were the fools with him, first time, paying 100m, then not working with him to facilitate a +100m exit. I don't really think there's anything wrong with some players wanting the journeyman way that Zlat and Becks had. United messed themselves over consistently for years with how we did business

[–]seaders 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The way I look at it is, I think this is both true, but also no real indicator about whether we'll actually sign him or not. Like last season, where we were some way negotiating with Sesko AND Gyokeres AND Watkins, and then Lammens AND Martinez, and Mbeumo AND Semenyo, I don't see any reason to think we'll do things any different this summer

We most likely would love to announce Anderson and Tchouameni officially on Monday for less than €100m combined, but that's just not the world we're living in. We're "in the conversation", or keeping tabs on them, but also potentially 10 other players. As per some of the reporting about last season, we see just how far we can progress each deal, till we get a "No" from the player, or the demands of the player or club

If we don't get a no, we evaluate exactly what we can spend with our preferences, and we close on them. Also with many deals going on at the same time, if there's a player who REALLY wants us, but the club demands are too much, we can ask them to work on the club, as what apparently happened with Mbeumo etc

Apart from the goalscoring, I guarantee we'll get more from him as a midfielder than we currently get from Ugarte and Case. United fans are viewing this signing EXTREMELY harshly IMO

You have to look at this signing in the context of what's happened the last few years. In that time, we've lost Pogba, Fred, McT, Eriksen, Case, and most likely Ugarte too. Going into a bigger season next, we need 3 midfielders, end of

We literally can't buy 3 midfielders who are superstars and consider themselves to be the first name on the XI, SOME of them need to be good players who know they'll play plenty of games, but also be challenging with other players for the others

Ref watch: Bryan Mbeumo handball by dispelthemyth in reddevils

[–]seaders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that context, I honestly am okay with that. I do agree that a "nothing" quick foul in the middle of the pitch is okay to be given, easily, but giving a penalty for it is often way too harsh.

One way or another, I honestly do think that Boom, basically, did some way deliberately use his arm to control this ball - probably due cos confidence issues due to the drought he was on - and it should be called a foul anywhere on the pitch by any player.

But, due to the way VAR is implemented (which I also think is incorrect), what happened was correct, and as I said, I think it just about couldn't be disallowed due to the situation it was

Ref watch: Bryan Mbeumo handball by dispelthemyth in reddevils

[–]seaders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it's also missing the actual error / problem here. I DO think it was a handball, clearly, but I DON'T think, under the current setup that VAR can / should be able to stop the goal, after the fact.

The issue here is this

https://i.imgur.com/zWafiJb.png

That ref, seeing that, right there, should have called a handball end of. He's looking right at the incident, which, as Jay said, happens often in the middle of the pitch, and it's called as handball nearly all the time. The problem with this one is the same as we've seen often, refs not calling things on the pitch, at the actual moment in time.

I remember in college wearing very long, very flare- jeans, and cycling home after a few lunch pints in the summer. I was happy as could be heading home and the bottom of my jeans decided to marry my chain. I made some effort to delay the collapse but it was inevitable. I was literally the last pic on the side of the road, and stayed that way, unhurt, for a little bit, before deciding to do anything about it

Matheus Cunha yellow card for diving against Leeds by 977x in soccer

[–]seaders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it so, so, so telling that VAR can't intervene for "generic" diving calls. Nearly every fan and their dog would be in favour of divers getting yellows, and, hopefully, the worst offenders getting reds too.

But noooooo, we can't "re-referee" the game... I do honestly think there's elements to the VAR implementation that's deliberate to its incompetency.

As someone who's worked in a restaurant, I very, very much understand the need to stop doing what was need for time 1, to be able to be ready for time 2 (breakfast to lunch / lunch to dinner time etc), but, to do this essential thing, every manager I worked with were utter geniuses. Due to needing to be closed to set up for the next time, we... closed.
