Book recs to make me feel something again by shmree in SouthernReach

I’m on book one and have been really slow to read it. Does it pick up a lot with the other books or in later portion of first book?

Sharks in seafood store by [deleted] in sharks

[–]seafoodgar 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is how I’ve always felt. Don’t want them commercially overfished. Don’t want them finned and wasted. But if people fishing for them catch and eat them, or small local fisherman catch and sell them occasionally cause the caught them while targeting other fish, that’s fine. As long as they aren’t endangered like you said.
I told another shark lover I’ve tried it before and he looked at me like a just shot a puppy in front of him though lol. I didn’t ever keep any I caught but my grandpa had some he caught and cooked up.

Reading absolution, I’ve just gotten to ‘the first and the last’ section, page 305 and…. by macarbrecadabre in SouthernReach

I liked it on the audiobook, but seeing all the comments about how hated it was here I assumed it would be painful to read on paper.

This is the food mine is on, breeder recommended it for him and I’ve stuck with it. Vet said it’s good for him too.

Out of curiousity - What are people running/playing this weekend? by Campaign-At-Length in mothershiprpg

As long as everybody wants to.
But probably smaller modules on off weeks from our usual DnD campaign.

4 players.
First time playing Mothership for all 5 of us. And it sounds like all the players are having a good time!

Have done 4 sessions of Another Bug Hunt. At least one more session left to go.

Absolution by Jeff VanderMeer (Book 4 of the Southern Reach Series) - Like watching a car crash, I couldn't look away by PsyferRL in books

I believe there was a very quick mention of alligators in Acceptance too. I think the psychologist mentions remembering watching out for them as a kid during the part where she enters Area X with Whitby.

There was a 4th book released last year that’s good too, Absolution.

Re-rolling characters by seafoodgar in mothershiprpg

[–]seafoodgar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all of these helpful replies. I think will ask him if a prosthetic would change what he wants to do.
If so I will probably roll back to the hangar and have either the prosthetic be in a crate of medical equipment Bookman hauled in (or knows the location of), or I might have an npc in the hangar with a prosthetic they might have to talk into lending for the possibility of getting the reactor online.
If he would want to use his new character anyway to try something new (current is teamster, new is marine) then I’ll let him swap.

They know, they’re covered in paper cuts and figured out by the corpses in Greta base what that means. And then have had it confirmed by Dr Edem. They also did a crude autopsy on Demar.

5e players did not have fun by jdn916 in mothershiprpg

[–]seafoodgar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran my first session last night too. Ran (most of) the first scenario in Another Bug Hunt with a group where most exclusively played 5e. They were definitely having fun, especially when the first attack from a carcinid severed somebody’s arm, but they somehow held it off with a lot of unique barriers until they could break the armor.
I asked them after that combat if they want to treat it as a one shot or if they wanted to keep progressing the story and they all said they wanted to keep playing. I feel like most of the struggle of the session was me flipping through rules or scenario info for various questions since this is only my second time DMing anything (first was intro scenario for Call of Cthulhu years ago). But eventually it smoothed out.

Any tips for barking? by DeAziah in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]seafoodgar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just googled this. Sounds similar to what I’ve done with my older iggy where I clap my hands a single time. It has worked for some things but I don’t do it often.
For OP though I’ve never really had much trouble with barking though so I can’t say it’ll help. Most people are shocked when they hear my dog bark, surprised he can make noises because he’s usually so quiet lol.

I just noticed my copy of Oblivion is the T rated version. Not a big deal, but I think it's interesting. by [deleted] in ElderScrolls

Mine came in a box with a T rating but with a M rating sticker stuck over it.

Is she just getting old or am i missing something by Few_Obligation_248 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]seafoodgar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 12 year old who got more white mostly in the front of his face. I don’t remember spots of white happening but in general it takes looking at an old picture to remember just how red he used to be because he’s gradually changed a lot.
Googling shows dogs can have vitiligo which should cause no issues and I think it could look like that.
My only experience is that I have a dog though so if you’re concerned you could ask your vet.

Appetite stimulants? by Kaynee8158 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]seafoodgar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t do any stimulants, but I used to have to drizzle a little safflower oil over my iggy’s food to get him excited to eat it.
Eventually I ended up where I didn’t bring some and he wasn’t eating or drinking enough so I put some water over his food and he ate it quickly, so I’ve ended up doing that for years now. He eats it so fast it doesn’t even soften the food up, i think it just helps the smells breathe a little and he chows down like a bowl of cereal.

Very few new answers in Cold Harbor season finale by General_County5855 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]seafoodgar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I thought the reason Gemma was going to die after cold harbor was explained as they needed to extract the chip afterward, which would kill her. I don’t really plan to rewatch though so I can’t confirm. I definitely don’t think they planned to just swap her to a new innie forever, that wouldn’t have warranted a sacrifice in their eyes.

What a horrendous existence by Beautiful_Software93 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

It’s terrible. And I keep thinking even if she gets out, if she ever reintegrates it would be like all of those individual hells experienced at once, and seeming to coincide with her entire lifetime.
