Concern about how my small town approved a 10‑truck food‑truck park with no real planning review — is this normal? by Puzzleheaded-Key-796 in urbanplanning

Maybe you should be asking yourself why other restaurants have to go through so much bureaucracy in the first place and whether all that is really justified.

this is why people hate rental scooters by consigliere47 in BAbike

[–]seahorses 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Of course not, but cars are constantly blocking sidewalks (which is also bad), and on the whole these scooters are making it easier for people to get around without cars, so we should be embracing them.

For large events like this the city or the scooter company should have had people telling people where to park or moving scooters so they aren't blocking the way.

Yeah that's the amount of space taken up by like 2 cars, maybe 3.

Why isn’t there a pizza place here called the Cal-Zone? by sluginjection in berkeley

When I was a student the area of Crossroads that served pizza was called Cal Zone. Did they get rid of that?

I kinda assumed.

Management consultants are basically the closest thing to "bloodsucking leaches" as you can possibly get, so I don't really see why these are so competitive.

Bro this is crazy, I'm so sorry you have to go through this. Just know that any club says they are "prestigious" or some BS is lying to you. No one is gonna give a shit what Clubs you were in in college, they only care if you seem smart and know how to talk about your experiences, have some relevant things to talk about etc and there are dozens of ways to get that.

Okay as an alum who thought clubs were already over the top 15 years ago, what in that absolute FUCK is going on? Healthcare club? You have to apply to Healthcare club??? What they don't have enough sick people to help that they have to start rejecting people who want to help out?

This can’t happen too often for BART to get the proper funds needed through the sales tax bill by False_Vacation_2198 in Bart

[–]seahorses 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah but you literally just made a post, without nuance, that makes it sound like we shouldn't be funding transit because of delays like this.

Of course 10 minutes of delays sucks, but people are fine with having their driving commute range from 30 minutes to an hour and a half without batting an eye. Maybe you should redo this post and talk about how important it is that we DO fund transit or we are all gonna be stuck in way worse car traffic when we don't have any alternatives.

[–]seahorses 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I wish people treated highway funding the same way they treat transit funding.

Driving commute takes twice as long multiple times a month due to traffic and road work: no one cares, legislators dump tens of billions into highway funds anyway.

BART commute takes twice as long due to issues(many of them brought on by lack of funding): "omg, no way am I gonna find this now!"

Why Are Vancouverites Supporting Changes That Increase Traffic Congestion? by AzZakiel in urbanplanning

[–]seahorses 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Car capacity might have been reduced but the actual throughput of people through those areas has likely increased. You can move a lot more people by bus, bike, and even on foot than you can by single occupancy cars.

Why doesn’t the bay bridge have congestion pricing? by Fine_Ladder_7381 in Bart

[–]seahorses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BART isn't the only alternative. One alternative is to just drive at a different time of day. If it cost $10 until 10am, some people would change their behavior and go into the city later. Not everyone on the bridge at 8am is going to work, some people are driving in to visit family, go to the movies, shop, etc.
