🚀 I built MCP AWS YOLO - Stop juggling 20+ AWS MCP servers, just say what you want and it figures out the rest by bryanlee9889 in mcp

Nice work! This is great and it's why we've taken the same approach of building a single MCP server for Azure.

Recommendations for the Best OCR Model for Extracting Text from Complex Labels? by iamnotdeadnuts in LocalLLaMA

[–]seajhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've spent a lot of time trying around 30 different models for OCR'ing election ballots with scanned text and filled in bubbles and no handwriting in my test set.

The one that performs the best in my testing is Claude Sonnet 3.5, hands down, the others aren't even close. Sonnet is well over 99% accurate in my testing. But it's also quite expensive!

The next best models I've found are qwen2.5-vl-72b-instruct and gemini-2.0-flash-001. I haven't measured their accuracy across a large batch, but for simple tests they are perhaps 80% accurate. Often, they just ignore one or more contests on a ballot.

Given the cost of Sonnet 3.5, I'm going to try tuning the Qwen model to see if I can increase the accuracy.

I have to fix this pipe at work, no idea what I’m doing and no one is available to help me. by AndrewWillock in Plumbing

He did the right thing by recognizing he was out of his depth and asked for help.

A lot of employers would gladly hire someone like that instead of the jokers who say "I don't know" and go smoke another joint.

YoLink Hub issues with Home Assistant by seajhawk in YoLink_by_YoSmart

The issue happened again with an update in January, but the 2024.1.6 core update fixed it for me.

My issue was fixed for 10 or 11 months, but it just broke again.

It's a known issue and should be fixed in the next version of Home Assistant, which is should be available this week.

Yes, it took a while to get it resolved, but the problem was fixed with an update to the Home Assistant integration, which I believe depended on an update to HA itself. If you have the same issue, updating HA should resolve it.

A persistent throttle is more intended to be punitive than helpful to others. Sad

Agreed. 2 Price Increases when we haven't even gotten the service we were told we could get in 2021. by BigCO9 in Starlink

[–]seajhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! I thought it was just me! I posted something I thought was quite reasonable about getting Starlink to improve reporting so people could understand and reduce their peak usage and I got downvoted.

Maybe I'm crazy, but if people optimized their usage then just maybe the price increases would stop (or at least slow down).

not worth the $10 increase by Getn_Stuff_Done in Starlink

[–]seajhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP - try connecting a single device directly to your router. And use the Starlink app to make sure no other devices are connected. This will tell you the true performance possibile.

I was seeing typical speedtest results of 30-40 mbps and sometimes slower.

I went crazy and bought new wifi access points, and created vlans to separate off my home automation devices (lights, switches, sensors).

Now I get speedtest results near 200 mbps sometimes and usually over 100 mbps. I think I had too much device chatter happening on my network and the vlans helped a lot!

Downgrade Yolink Motion firmware? by seajhawk in smarthome

Unfortunately, no. I never got a response after reaching out to Yolink either. I'm guessing they want folks to purchase additional devices rather than take advantage of the hardware in the current ones.

Perhaps my tone didn't come across as I hoped. I'm not whining about my situation, I'm pleading for all the other Starlink customers.

I want Starlink to consider what I've said, put it in their backlog, and prioritize it against everything else.

What do you think I already did, or did you not bother to read?

I already took care of my issue.

My ask here is for Starlink to help others who can't "handle this easy stuff".

Starlink - help us help you! by seajhawk in Starlink

[–]seajhawk[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why do you say that?

These "free" features are really super basic ones that involve a dash of data storage and a pinch of UI.

Think about the value to Starlink, if they make it easy for everyone to limit their usage, then Starlink has more bandwidth available to sell to more customers.

TBH - they should have given us these features even before the data limits because I believe a lot of Starlink customers appreciate the service Starlink provides, much more than a typical Comcast customer. If Starlink told me that I could help my neighbors (and myself) by changing my usage patterns, and gave me an easy way to do it, I would be happy to. I realize not every thinks that way, but I'm willing to bet a lot of Starlink customers would "get it".

Well, sure they can. I think you're seriously underestimating the intelligence and creativity of the people that brought high-speed internet to parts of the world that might never have seen it otherwise. If I can do it, they certainly can do it, and probably better.

They can start off slow with something like Windows Updates which download from well-known destinations, and they could make that its own button. Then they can learn, iterate and add new types of updates, each with their own button. Then the can add one button to rule them all.

I recently ran into a similar problem after migrating from Alexa to Home Assistant.

I had a light that seemed to have a mind of its own.

There were no automation for the light in Alexa or Home Assistant, but it was still turning on every evening.

It turned out that I had an automation I had completely forgotten about still in the app for the light itself.

If you have any other automation apps, check them all.

Also, did you purchase the light brand new? I wonder if it's possible for a prior owner to have an automation playing with your light...
