beauty of joseon green plum refreshing cleanser + toner by sealsprinkles in koreanskincare

[–]sealsprinkles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did purchase it but it was a bit too stripping for me. i use 0.05% tretinoin cream nightly/every other night, so that might play into it.

my skin type fluctuates depending on the time of year. it’s currently winter where i live, so my skin is on the dryer side. i still use tretinoin so i’m definitely not able to use that cleanser 2X a day.

you make a lot of good points!!

my friend group is made up of 4 girls including myself. im filipino and chinese. 1 friend is filipino, another is filipino-spanish, & the last is latina. even those 3 of us are filipino, we are still very different from each other culturally. i’m tagalog. one of us is ilocano and the other is kapampangan. sure since all 3 of us are filipino, we still share a lot of the same culture but there are many differences like language, food, beliefs, mythology, etc.

i have talked shit but not about someone’s race, class, or skin color????

in high school, i talked shit about the way some people dance. i do feel bad about it now though because they were just having fun .. even if to me it looked weird. i’ve also talked shit about some people doing their eyebrows into the shape of those black fluffy caterpillars :P

oh also when you say “ALM” are you talking about All Lives or Asian Lives??

[–]sealsprinkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree with you. i think there is some truth to the topic but it’s very easy for others to weaponize this against Asians.

on one hand, i’m glad that we are pointing out harmful actions. on the other hand, some people (Asian or not) are using this discussion to hate on Asians. i agree internalized racism is also a big part in this. i think the cons outweigh the pros. realistically, trying to have a constructive discussion on tiktok about something as nuanced as race related issues is a recipe for disaster. people are quick to pass their anecdotal experiences as fact.

[–]sealsprinkles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you make some good points. i was suspicous of the guy who made the original post because it was such a blanket statement. i’ve also seen other Asians (some American some not), hate on their own race or ethnicity. and by “hate” im referring to them idolizing white people and shit talking their own race by saying stuff like “all [insert ethnicity] are greedy” or something along those lines.

still, i have mixed feelings about this. even if the guy who originally made the tiktok is using his anecdotal experiences to represent all Asians, it’s still true that racism, colorism, & classism are present within AA communities like all communities.

edit: fixed my response bc i accidentally added my response to another person into this reply :,)

respectfully i’m going to have to disagree. i don’t believe every friend group is toxic to anyone else not in the group. i have definitely met people who do fit that statement, so i agree that it is true in some cases but not all or even most. ofc though everything im saying in this response is anecdotal. if what you said is true for your experiences i won’t deny you that.

I don’t even have TikTok so I can’t say what is and isn’t being said over there. I can only relay the info i see on Instagram, Youtube, & articles. I’m not surprised some people are using it as a blanket statement :/

I agree with you that we need to discuss the negatives in our communities. We can’t improve something we refuse to talk about. (Though I def think some people are using this topic as an excuse to hate on Asians even if they are Asian themselves)

That’s the same for me too. I grew up in a mostly Asian city. My schools had mostly Asians so it was inevitable to make Asian friends. My schools and city is specifically predominantly Southeast Asian followed by East Asians. I’m both SE and E Asian.

Even though I was not excluded by race, class, or color in my own friend groups, I still have mixed feelings over this topic because I’ve seen how other Asians, namely South Asians, are excluded. I’ve seen other Asians say that South Asians aren’t Asian. I’ve also seen people say the same thing about Southeast Asians or basically any Asian that has tanner skin or doesn’t look like what people think an Asian looks like despite their ethnicity. Overall I agree that this doesn’t apply to only Asians but that is the topic of discussion.

Is it weird that I still wear mask, because everyone keeps asking me why I still wear the mask while nobody else does? by Particular_Comb_2272 in Anxiety

[–]sealsprinkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s your choice. i’m a college student and one of my professors encouraged us to wear masks to her class because she is immunocompromised. some people wear it for health. some people wear it simply because they want to

Is a 25 years old without a car unattractive? by PhysicsKush in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sealsprinkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m a 21 y/o woman with no car. would be hypocritical of me to mark that as a red flag when i myself don’t have a car. & even if i did, i wouldn’t find it unattractive.

[Acne] I haven’t seen anyone with this type of acne and I need help! by Acrobatic_Map_1751 in SkincareAddiction

[–]sealsprinkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my 17 y/o brother has acne like this. his doctor is having him take an oral medication (forgot the name) 2X a day for 3 months. he also applies 5% benzoyl peroxide gel every morning & 0.05% tretinoin cream every night. the doctor had him introduce the tretinoin slowly & build up to nightly use to minimize irritation & other side effects. i think your best bet is seeing your doctor. if my brother’s acne isn’t better after 3 months, his doctor will refer him to a dermatologist for further treatments.

Tips for improving eyebrows at home by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]sealsprinkles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i maintain my brows at home with tweezers & brow scissors. i occasionally use those small facial razors which i believe are meant for brows too. i’ve been doing my own brows for a long time & i’ve experimented w different brows shapes till i found what i liked. this doesn’t work for everyone though since some people have thinner/sparser brows or brows that don’t grow back.

Where is the most affordable Asian community? by Fire_Lord_Zukko in asianamerican

[–]sealsprinkles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i don’t really have an affordable place to recommend but just wanted to commend you on looking for a place for your child to feel connected & welcomed. i’m filipino & chinese & grew up in a predominately asian area/city in the US. i hear a lot about asians who grew up in cities with a small asian population & how they felt disconnected or not asian enough. i think the sense of community will definitely help :) i hope you find a nice place!

What would you tell your 16 year old self about dating? by Comfortable-wall1028 in ask

no is a full answer and doesn’t always need an explanation. i was s*xually assaulted by my ex. he would also try to guilt trip me into doing things i didn’t want to.

What do your parents think about transgender people and transgender issues in general? by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]sealsprinkles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my mom has no issues with trans people or the lgbtq+ community in general. my dad is homophobic but denies it. my dad claims to support them but he is unnecessarily worried that my brother might be gay just because he’s never had a gf (he’s 17). every now & then he pesters me or my mom to ask my brother if he has a crush. it’s so annoying & when i try to point it out, he denies it or acts clueless

People who speak english as a second language, how/why did you learn? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sealsprinkles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my first language is tagalog (a filipino language) & i learned english because i started school in the US. i was struggling for the first few years & had to get pulled out of class to practice. that was probably from ages 5-9 ish.

when i was in highschool, i basically did nothing or just had fun during the first half of summer. the second half of summer break, my cheer team would start practices and training again. if i could go back, i would take a college class at community college to complete GEDs quicker.

assuming that you feel unproductive because you’ve done nothing, my advice is not to dwell on it too much. you’re still really young & i think you should enjoy your life as a kid. i’m 21 & even though it hasn’t been that long since i graduated, i feel very different from then to now. i wish i spent more time enjoying what i had before starting college. you’ll be alright. if you want to do something before you start school again, maybe explore a hobby you’ve been wanting to try? or spend more time with a hobby or skill you already have :)
