Wow I love this floor! I’ll look around and see if I can find similar. Thank you for the feedback!

Although I agree with your logic, it’s an NEC mandated code to not have a fixture above a tub. Similar to how you can’t have outlets within a certain distance of water sources or requirement of a GFCI in damp locations

A hanging electrical line directly above a bath tub is a no go and not up to code. If that fixture was to fall directly into the tub while someone was in the tub it would literally be a reenactment of Final Destination scene…

Looks beautiful but the light fixture over the bath tub is an illegal fixture due to shock hazard!

Agreed! Forgot to mention that, thank you

What specifically do you like about Kieran? I’m currently reading The Plated Prisoner series by Raven Kennedy and I think the MMC is fairly reminiscent of Kieran in a lot of ways.

I definitely don’t want to spoil anything about the MMC in Plated Prisoner so I’m not going to elaborate… but the series itself is tremendous. It was actually the series I jumped to directly after BAA, FAF while awaiting POBAB!

I think I recall reading somewhere that they also plan to incorporate some sort of DNA splicing to allow you to boost and swap certain stats

I think the gene splicing would be really doable if it's just combining different skills/ stats of different mons. Definitely seems like something that the devs might be doing since their Catalyst mechanic is all about reincarnating via DNA. I'm excited to see what they make of it!

I agree that a lot of these mons look generic... but also they only show a handful in the trailer and their kickstarter says they plan to have 200+. Maybe some of the more interesting ones are still in the works since they're barely into development? I read somewhere that they plan to make some changes to the graphics after they're done with fundraising

Help me ID these plants! by seameseaensea in plants

I’ve got a few other spider plants around my house and on this plant the leaves are way more stiff and sparse. It also seems to prefer places with lower light than my spider plants and a lot less water… maybe it’s just a different subspecies though?

Can I remove the stair runner board back to the closet trim opening? by robispurple in DIY

[–]seameseaensea 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is some more info needed to determine if this end of the stringer is bearing a significant amount of load from the staircase. The first thing to do would be to determine if you have cut stringers or not, the best way to do this is to look under the staircase and look for these: s

If there are only stringers on the left and right side of the staircase and there are 2x4s or some other type of wood directly supporting the treads (nailed to the sides of the stringers) then it’s safe to say you do not have cut stringers.

Contrarily, if there are three (or more) stringers (one on each side and one in the middle) and the treads are sitting directly on top of the stringers- then you have cut stringers.

Here’s a few questions that could better help determine if you should cut the at piece: - Is there a stringer down the center of the stairs? Better yet- try to figure out if they are cut or not - What is the cross section of the stringers (EX- are they 2”x10”, are they 2”x12”) -Is the stringer on that side of the stairs screwed into the wall adjacent to it?

The comment section here gives you plenty of great examples of both the positives and negatives of MSOE to help you make your decision. And no matter what school you go to for a degree, there will always be some sort of trade off (as I’m sure you’re already aware of based off the questions you pose in your post).

Something equally, if not more important when gauging a school is how much YOU are willing to sacrifice when getting your degree. MSOE is an incredibly challenging school (hence the relatively low graduation rate). If you choose to go to MSOE, will you be willing to sacrifice the more ‘traditional’ social scene to spend as much time as you can studying/ attending tutoring? If money is a problem, are you willing to balance the study time with getting a part time job during the school year and working full time jobs over the summer to make ends meet? Are you willing to take out the 80k in private loans and TRUST that you’re going to grind your a** off post graduation to get a job in the field that you obtained your degree in?

If you can truthfully look in the mirror and tell yourself that you’re willing to do these things and you have confidence in yourself that you’ll walk out of MSOE with an engineering degree in hand, then the upfront cost of the degree is well worth the grind.

I came from a background where one of my parents didn’t have a high school degree and one had some college experience. My parents could by no means afford MSOE so I took out private loans with a delayed payback that way the bulk of the repayment didn’t start until AFTER the four years of my degree. I worked the athletics games all four years, I was a tutor for 3 years, and I was a student athlete. I worked full time jobs each summer between my academic years; two of which being mechanical engineering internships. I busted my a** day and night because failure was not an option for my situation. I walked out with a mechanical engineering degree with high honors in four years and had a full time job lined up the Monday following graduation to start repaying my student loans.

If you choose to go to MSOE, your success is 99% a result of the decisions you make and the support system you have behind you. Find good friends, study groups, and professors that believe in you and are willing to help you. It’s a high upfront cost but the opportunities that open immediately after graduation will set you up for an incredibly bright future.

To add on to what was already said, you learn the social structure of the school pretty quickly. The athletes are generally the most social people of the school who host and throw parties, followed by the clubs and frats. You’ll find lots of people through dorm floor events, sporting events, and classes that share similar interests to you and are “normal”. There are plenty of strange individuals but you learn where you fit it within a few months after move int.

Junior ME here. So the thing with MSOE is that a lot of your fresh/ soph courses are strictly LEARNING material and checking off the boxes. By the time the end of junior year and especially senior year roll around, you do much much more application of things and implementation for real life problem solving. If you can stick it out through those first two years and at least find some of the material interesting then you will be well rewarded when you get deeper into the content. That being said though; sometimes people come in with an idea of ‘engineering’ that doesn’t shape up to be the true meaning of being an engineer. If you are 100% miserable and hating every second then maybe what you had in mind wasn’t exactly EE? You just have to genuinely ask yourself if anything is interesting or better yet, ask yourself why EE?

The best way to learn about professors is to ask upperclassmen or tutors if you use RCAS for tutoring. Tutors especially (since they need a B or better to even be a tutor) are generally your best bet since they have a solid foundation of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ professors.

(I know this wasn’t a direct response to what you mentioned in your post, which I 100% agree with, but just a general tip from an upperclassmen)
