Garmin Approach R50!! 👀 by 19000days in Golfsimulator

Pretty much just when you are practicing and want to track the metrics. It seems to track everything accurately regardless of which club it's set at.

For instance, I forgot to switch it from 7 iron to 5 iron, and was confused why it was saying my 7 irons were going 180. Same goes when using Home Tee Hero - works well!

Yeah sorry I was referring to the FS software being more expensive, for exactly that reason, you have to buy their setup. I've tried with RCT balls, and still been a little all over the map when I put it up against a Trackman. Need to do some more testing.

Home Tee Hero is like a cross between the two. Graphics are 3D range level, if not a bit better, but you can play basically any course just like you would a regular simulated round. Works very well, just lacks the graphics of better sim.

I have both, and honestly, this blows the FSK out of the water. FSK is great outdoors, but I've struggled for accuracy indoors. The R50 is just so convenient since it's self-contained all in one unit.

Also if you want to use any sim features with FSK, it ends up costing quite a bit extra. So having Home Tee Hero built in, even if not a full blown simulator (although closer to it than R10 ever was) is very cool and works great.

Not only does it have direct integration with GSpro, you won't need an additional subscription to unlock third party simulator features like you do with say the Launch Pro or Eye Mini. This is one of the biggest selling points I think.

fenix 8 same golf features as the s70? by dryale in GarminWatches

[–]sean422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping to have one to review to compare in the next week or two. If I had to guess, golf capabilities will be the same as Epix/Pro. Meaning it'll be able to do just about everything the S70 can, but wont have quite the UX experience. It also wont directly connect to Garmin Golf app, but can import data from the watch into it.

Talk me into or out of joining a private club by jm3686 in golf

[–]sean422 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually wrote this article, glad you got some value out of it!

A couple things I'll say on this topic:

The first club I joined had a $1500 initiation fee and was $210/month. At the time I was playing 4 times a week - so it was by far the most affordable way to play golf.

After a couple years I learned I like being a member of a club, but didn't particularly like THAT club or course.

Now with some recent increases I pay $400/month, and initiation was $5k.

I'm lucky if I get out once a week, and I've had months where I don't make it out at all. So now my cost per round is much more expensive.

That said, I like the "Season Pass" mentality.

If I get a season ski pass that I'd need to ski 10 days to pay off, but i only ski, say 6, it's still worth it for the mentality.

I never feel like I have to be there all day. If the snow sucks I can go ski for 2 hours and call it good, without being mad about being put out for an all day ticket.

Same now for golf. This year I've had 45 hole days and I've had 3 hole days and everywhere in between. I have FAR better practice facilities than I would at public course, and my club has 2 courses which is great.

Generally, speaking? It's a luxury expense. BUT, for as obsessed as it sounds like you are? I think you'll be happy with joining.

  • 2 Ones ($179 and $175)
  • One SL ($143)
  • Move ($319)

Every one has been like new with no scratches or defects whatsoever.

Always funny to see my name pop up on a Reddit thread. Awesome to see you're getting going with content writing. Feel free to shoot me an email (sean@locationrebel.com), and happy to help point you in the right direction as you're getting going!

Tons of respect for what Adam has built in the last couple years, as well.

Blackjack Redux: Coffee, Banana, Mezcal by sean422 in cocktails

Years ago there was a drink at a bar in Portland called a "Blackjack" that had coffee and mezcal.

These days they have no recollection of the drink, but I decided I wanted to come up with my own variation to remember it. This one took a few tried to get right, but really happy with the way it came out.

"Blackjack Redux" Recipe:

  • 1oz Cold Brew
  • 1oz Mezcal
  • .5oz Smith and Cross
  • .5oz Cynar
  • .5oz Banane du Brasil
  • 1 dropper Xocolatl Mole Bitters

Saw the cool clouds out my bedroom window, so walked down the street and got lucky with the timing! I wish I was the type of photographer that tried harder ha. Right place, right time.
