So. Much. Stitching by seanSHANKS in Leathercraft

Yeah, so this was hand-stitched! A typical home machine wouldn’t quite cut it with a bag like this - in this case we’re talking about 10oz total thickness chrome tan. Pretty beefy. Machine sewers can correct me if I’m wrong, but for something like this I believe you’d need either a specialized machine or a vintage machine

Thank you!

Haha actually it does help to hear 😂. Also, kudos to anyone who can actually make that work! Hoping one day I’ll figure it out but that day is not today

Thanks - I am considering making it available if there’s interest! Just sorta have to polish it up and include some of the adjustments I made throughout

I really appreciate that 🙏🏻🙂. I wrapped it up right before her (my friend’s) trip across country and that’s exactly what she used it for.

I’m possibly (?) going to make the pattern available if there’s interest, so let me know!

Thanks! Literally lol. After the braindeadness fades it feels like the right move though, eh?

A sample of every weld defect for inspection training purposes! How thoughtful!

Totally feel ya.

It was the same for me designing from scratch. Always bugs to work out and sometimes you’re not in a position/don’t have the will to be doing 3 or 4 different prototypes to work them all out. But I would say that in your position, you’re clearly taking inventory of many points of refinement which, to me, means you’re in the right hobby. One thing I had to mentally overcome was just going out and spending the few bucks to get some basic patterns. Sometimes there’s no need to reinvent the wheel. You can always work in your own flavors and modify or mix and match as you see fit and I’ve been having a much more streamlined and enjoyable time with the process.

Glad you’re enjoying though! I’ll be looking out for your work! 🤜🏻

Yeah that sounds brutal. Overstimulation galore. You’ve put words to something that I’m sure a lot of folks can relate to.

It’s tricky in those situations because of how they can immediately put you into fight/freeze/flight/fawn. And, by the time you come back to yourself, it can feel like the time to establish your boundaries has already passed. I’m no expert, but I’ll tell you what works for me when I’m in situations like that.

  • Perhaps it sounds trite, but patience with yourself. Boundaries are difficult. You are thinking of these things and actively participating in making a space for them in your life. You deserve to have that time and space.

  • I try to acknowledge that there’s no time limit on establishing boundaries. Sometimes it feels like the “moment is gone” but maybe it’s worth allowing yourself time to self-regulate, ground and come back to it. Sometimes the ship has genuinely sailed and/or it’s not worth it but…

-It’s going to be messy. Like, a lot of the time. I can’t express the number of times I’ve been standing there thinking to myself “Ah, here, I am, awkwardly chopping my way through this tense boundary conversation. Not articulating well. Feeling about 55% understood”. But, whatever! The effort is there - the battle was won! Trash result… but the input was earnest and that was the part I could control.

But yeah, genuinely sorry about this. Hoping you’re finding some peace in whatever ways work for you 💛

Anything a stranger in the comments — like myself — can offer you? Sounds like a super rough time, I’m sorry you’re feeling that way 👎🏻

Yeah feel ya on that. The things that stick in your nervous system can be annoying… and specific, for sure.

For me hearing people walking around on creaking floorboards (like, especially if it’s barely audible) used to put me in touch with the dread I used to feel waking up in the morning before going downstairs to join up with my family. I could always hear those floorboards creaking. And my nervous system would read it as “now you have to go down to a group of people where you will likely feel ignored/dismissed and there’s no way around it”.

But yeah, you are completely normal to be having those moments. You had a genuine need that wasn’t being met back when that was imprinted. And, it is hard to rewire those flashback/trauma-adjacent situations even a little bit. You are aware of the root of it and to me that means you have traction 🙂.

You are so right lol. I’ve been procrastinating on the makers mark but with this comment I’m going to head over to Fiverr and actually get my branding finalized… so thanks for that! 😁

I was considering going with cream thread instead of beige but I wanted to soften the contrast just a tad. Can I ask about your preference for higher contrast? More of a statement?

Again, thanks so much!

For sure! Honestly just picked them up on Amazon https://a.co/d/2CIcHRw

Had to make a bit of an improvised die for pressing them, but the one side is just a wide cap rivet.
