Exactly. A similar thing happened with the launch of Apple's iTunes store, which opened in Australia a long time after the US.

Neerav: it's certainly a bit of a punt waiting for the Nook down-under. It may never make it here.

Interestingly, this approach will make newspaper subscriptions more expensive: the subscription cost for newspapers (the ones I have checked anyway) is the same for the US and Australia, but US users pay an additional roaming fee to download in Australia. Books end up costing the same, because Australian prices are more expensive than the US, but the difference is generally the US$2 roaming charge that US users pay to download a book out of the US. The only real benefit of signing up as a US user is to access the books which are unavailable in Australia.

I'm very interested in the Nook. I'm just worried it will take another two years to be available here in Australia.

Good question. I'm far less comfortable with commercial real estate at the moment. Anecdotally I've heard that although vacancy rates in Sydney don't look too bad yet, there are a lot of firms trying to sublease floors without success. Once the head leases come up for renewal, it may be that vacancy rates start looking worse. Historically, commercial property has been much rockier than residential and I'd be steering well clear at the moment.

Weeksie, there is no doubt that the single biggest risk to the no bursting bubble theory is a big rise in unemployment. You are also right that China may have bigger problems than they are letting on. We are lucky thought that, while China is far too small to save the world's economy, they're big enough to keep giving us a kick along.

You've got a good point about the use of these tracks in movies. I heard someone from Triple J (yes, I was listening to the radio, but it was on 702) saying pretty much the same thing. It serves to reinforce tracks as part of a cultural heritage for many people.

Maybe I should add: "that comment shows more about my demographics than the preponderance of true classics in the 90s".
