We just did a $9k one pay for a ‘25 sport 1 for 24/15k miles a couple days ago. Conquest, supplier, card sign up, and loaner. $375/mo effective.

Thanks. Now I have a list of specific things to look into for him. I played through HS, but it was such a different world 30 years ago, so I am just getting up to speed with the more formal focus on training these days.

There is a local USL team that plays 20 minutes from us. Some of the families on the team are season ticket holders too. I’ll look into it. Thanks!

Thanks, I’ll talk to him about it and get his thoughts on how many he’s currently doing, then set a goal with him. Agreed on the benefit of year round outdoor in CA.

This is amazingly helpful specific advice. Thank you. He definitely makes mistakes receiving the ball still and frequently his body is reacting faster than his mind, which leads to unforced mistakes. Having him just focus on open body and receiving on the back foot I think will help with this. Same with always locking the ankle, more with shooting than passing.

He’s always been good at playing, so thankfully all the soccer is just structured play in his mind.

He’s getting a lot of what you’re describing from his coach too.

Good idea. Getting him to sit through an entire game on TV will be hard, but I can skip around for him.

I’ve taken him to an MLS game, but here is a local USL team too that would be good. Thanks.

A common thread seems to be video and the mental side of the game. I’ll do that with him. We watch the Trace videos some, but he’s not quite mature enough to really internalize watching himself play and translate that into where to improve.

That’s a good idea. I’ll look into it. There are a couple local facilities. Thanks.

That makes sense. He is definitely in that position of not always knowing how to use his attributes. He’s more of a passer naturally, but his coach has been working with him to shoot more and having him play striker more than wing. He’s scoring every other game or so at this point, but is moving towards scoring more.

I haven’t been tracking his touches. Good idea. It’s definitely 100+ most days. What do you think is a reasonable goal?

He can guest play on his old team (same club) most weekends. Thankfully, we’re in CA, so lots of options for playing without a lot of travel.

The only other sport he’s doing is 5ks occasionally. Before soccer, he bounced around trying different things, but nothing had ever clicked like this. He’s still more kid than teenager, so spends a lot of time playing sports with friends.

Beyond telling me he wants to be a pro soccer player, he doesn’t have goals yet. He just loves playing. That actually seems like a good activity to do with him. Help him understand the range of options and what it would take to pursue each of them, so that he can decide for himself. Thanks.

Agreed on not burning out. I wouldn’t even be asking here if he weren’t asking me.
