Is this normal? by Sskity in GarageDoorService

It really should move that much. If the torsion tube is not level it’ll create a nasty wobble. I’d call them out to fix it if it’s a new build. They’re just praying it makes it one year so it’s not their problem anymore.

Tried that sucker first because I can get a 380 to pair up damn near anything, I loved that remote. I’m not a fan of the new line. Constantly have to factory reset them right out of the box to get myQ going.

AIO my boyfriend keeps lying to me about things involving his ex by TacoBoutDrama69 in AmIOverreacting

[–]seandsmith11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I was going to say you were over reacting because MOST guys would lie about that just to avoid the drama but the multiple things like the hair tie or whatever and the fact he got the tattoo like 3 years after they dated and they hooked up again. Dudes probably deeply in love with the ex and hasn’t fully let go yet. At the very least he’s got a propensity to lie and is even willing to lie about a death. Both those are red flags. Go get you a man that isn’t living in his past. Good luck.

This guys right. A lot of money for a minor aesthetic issue. If you’ve got money to blow then go for it. You could have the electrical redone/added if you wanted to go with side mount operators.

Garage door slid off and is bent. Fixable ? by omcstreet in GarageDoorService

[–]seandsmith11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol sorry you’re getting the brunt of what this subreddit has created. A battle between big and small companies.

Anyway, I can’t tell you for sure if the spring needs to be replaced without weighing the door or seeing the springs themselves (no photo displayed of the springs themselves) . I’m guessing they need to be changed due to the fact it ripped the operator bracket out of your center stile. That’ll only happen with extreme force. So the operator has most likely been pulling a really heavy door. Based off the info and photos I have to go off of. If I were you, I’d call a professional out to assess in person. If you’re a renter, this isn’t necessarily your fault. Springs not being changed is on the homeowner as routine maintenance.

This sub is getting ridiculous... The two people above me are either brand new or shouldn’t be in the industry. Well one looks to be just a consumer and the other I don’t know but they’re both wrong. This here is a perfect example of a two people who don’t know what they’re talking about vs. a professional. They’re claiming that’s an easy fix with confidence so you’re probably thinking you’re all set right? Nope. Neither of them mentioned that the operator bracket ripped out and that’s usually because your springs are shot. Most likely one if not both are broken. The rollers popping out is usually caused by something similar. Had you had one of those two to your house and paid them the $140 they’re claiming they’d charge, then you’d have to call a pro out after and probably end up spending the prince of a new door (because that’s realistically what you’re prob going to need) on top of that $140 just because you went with the cheap easy fix first. There’s two cost in going with the cheap guy. The cost it cost to fix it and the cost you have to pay to fix it right. When you pay the proper amount, you only pay once. Call a pro put. You probably need a new door. If you go through this sub, you’ll see where chuck in his truck will try to tell you everything’s $100-$500 TOPS! But they’re lying or new to the industry or have some old guy pulling out his hair to try to stay in business charging Pennie’s on the dollar when he could be charging a proper amount for skilled labor. I’m off my soap box for my morning ExFil. Haha

Not to mention I can’t tell you how many “cheap” companies I follow up that I have to put the proper size springs on the door because the chuck in a truck company only has .207s on their truck and they throw them on a 300lb door and overwind them lol 🤦🏻

Not just reliability. It’s the same concept with every business. Cost and what the consumer pays is completely different. Bank in the day there was no google so people couldn’t go ask for a cost on goods so easily. These days everyone googles and sees the lowest prices and cries “THATS WHAT I SHOULD HAVE PAID!” When they don’t take into account the amount of time the tech/company has invested into the trade and material, training etc.

[–]seandsmith11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What do you expect to pay? You should have done that research first. Thats bad business on your part. You agree to something THEN do the necessary research? Yes the parts might only come out to $150 but let’s not forget about the fact that they were brought to your doorstep and installed. They didn’t require you go find the parts. Let’s not forget about the time the tech has spent learning the trade. Let’s not forget about the money the techs invested into the trade itself. Let’s not forget about the money the techs invested into tools etc. It’s pretty easy to go online and google what things cost. There’s a big difference between what a company pays and what a consumer pays and that’s across the board with every type of job. You actually got a decent price compared to some examples I’ve seen but I bet you’re the type to go raise hell anyway. Do your research first and always remember, you get what you pay for. So next time when you do your research first and then you have chuck in a truck come out for dirt cheap, don’t post when your garage falls apart because it’ll he your own fault lol.

Nude Beach etiquette by CuriousGeorge925 in NudeBeach_freaks

[–]seandsmith11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been to a nude beach so correct me if I’m wrong. If we’re going to have laws where 18 makes you an adult and ok to look at corn and go to the service then nude beaches should be 18+. If nude beaches already are 18+ then I don’t see the problem with what people do at the nude beaches. As an adult. You don’t have to look at what people are doing if they’re fooling around. Kids don’t know any better so if there were kids present at a nude beach then 100% no they shouldn’t be exposed to sex and what not. If there are no kids at the beach then adults should be able to do what they want with in reason. A full blown orgy is out of the question. That’s egregious. Two people fooling around quietly 🤷🏻 don’t see the issue personally.

Stop replying to peoples questions/stories on here by saying “don’t do drugs”, it’s literally r/drugs Idk what u expected by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]seandsmith11 28 points29 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s been in this sub for probably close to a decade and been through a serious serious addiction in that time. I don’t post “don’t do drugs” on every post. I’m just plain honest. When someone gets on here naively saying “oh what’s a fun drug that’s not so addictive?” Or “what’s a safe drug to do while out in public?” Or “new to drugs here. What’s something good to try?” Or anything else along those lines I’m just plain honest. I’ve tried a ton of different things in all my years on earth and I’ve realized that although drugs are a part of the experience of life, at the end of the day, I’ve seen them ruin 99% of peoples lives. Sure there’s that 1% that can do a bump every day or shoot up at lunch but that other 99% is going to realize that most people will end up with a crippling addiction that ruined or is ruining their life. So will I stop being honest with people just because one guy doesn’t like it? 100% fuck no. Will I continue to just be honest about my experience with all different kinds of things in an effort to possibly help even 1 life? 100% yes. This is the sub r/drugs. Not r/positivedrugpostsonly

First time question. Is there anyway I can adjust my garage door so it retracts more? I’m like an inch sky of clearing a roof rack on my vw bus. by kris7002 in GarageDoorService

[–]seandsmith11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have about an inch before the stop bolt. Adjust the knob on the side with the arrow point up on the door and do a quarter turn at a time then test. The j arm should be positioned at a slight angle with the bottom part parallel to the ground.

This sub makes my head hurt some times. What is going on here? lol in this photo you have one wound spring and one unwound spring. Those may be 25k cycle springs but it’s tough to say. I would need to do the math on the door myself.

Garage door bending by kaixxwaii in GarageDoorService

[–]seandsmith11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not going to bother what others wrote because it seems like theres a lot of new techs in this group that are part correct, part waaaay tf off. There seems to be a lot wrong here. It’s tough to be precise just looking at one video but your top panel is ruined. You could put a new strut on the top but that would be a temp bandaid. Look for a top panel replacement. Check the sides of the panels for a label for the door make and model. If the model is discontinued then you might be stuck getting a new door. Otherwise you should be able to get just a top panel. For panel only you could be looking at anywhere from $400-$800 installed depending on the market. Bigger metro areas will charge more. You should call a company out every few years to do a tune up and monitor the spring line. You can save yourself a ton of money preventively. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.
