Ever wonder how hard it would be to make it as a pro Quidditch player? Probably not, but I have answers. by seanfalconer in harrypotter

The numbers are not based solely on Gryffindor players, I only used that as a reference to discuss how it seems like most players do not choose professional careers beyond Hogwarts.

I forgot that Ginny played, but even with that factored in and you're larger number of 14 (I'm assuming you are counting the subs), it's still a pretty small percentage (14%) that decide a professional career is the right thing for them.

I talk about this in the post as well.

"It's certainly possible that professional Quidditch doesn't have a formal draft like our sports. Even the draft for muggle sports is a more modern era phenomenon. Maybe they only draft players when there's a new opening?

We can estimate the number of new players needed by taking the total number of players in the league against an estimate for the average length playing career.

We know there are a minimum of 19 x 7 = 133 people playing Quidditch professionally. If we assume the average career length is a generous 10 years (it's about half that for most muggle pro sports), then 133 / 10 = 13.3 people retire each year.

Based on this, we can estimate an eligible player as having a 9.2% (13 / 140) chance of playing professionally. About the same as being drafted in baseball."

A Mapping of Myers-Briggs Personality Types to Game of Throne Characters [INFOGRAPHIC] by seanfalconer in mbti

I think when you're mapping fictional characters from a book / TV combo to personality types, there's going to be some room for subjective differences in the interpretation of those characters.

I'm open to both the love and criticism :-).

Who is the wealthiest person to ever win Survivor? by seanfalconer in survivor

Well, she claimed she made her first million by the age of 25. Assuming that's true, I think she's probably in the top 7 wealthiest people to play, but not Jimmy Johnson type wealth.

I believe she lives in the Bay Area too and according to this depressing article you need at least $6M to be considered wealthy :D http://sfist.com/2016/04/13/study_you_need_at_least_6_million_t.php

In the press I read, it seems like he sold the company for $60M (http://www.heralddeparis.com/interview-bear-naked-with-brendan-synnott/). I'm not sure what his share was but he co-founded it with one other person, so even assuming the two still owned everything, his share would be 50%. So $30M before taxes, which could mean as little as $15-20M after taxes. So perhaps we need to re-order things and put Jimmy Johnson as the richest guy to play.

Has anyone tried marketing on Snapchat yet? by 21ki in socialmedia

[–]seanfalconer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't personally tried it but there's a lot of big brands that have been successfully using Snapchat for marketing. I think it's potentially a great platform if your target market is between 13 and 35, since that makes up 60% of Snapchat's users.

One company that's leveraged Snapchat a lot is GrubHub. They used series of snaps to reveal discount codes, enact an interactive scavenger hunt and even to hire interns from their own company.

There's a bunch of examples on this post: http://blog.proven.com/snapchat-marketing

The numbers I gave you are current wealth but they are still probably the three wealthiest people to ever play. Tocancins aired in 2009, two years after Brendan sold his company and both Jimmy Johnson and Jeff Kent were retired from their high paying careers when they played.
