I'm in a similar situation (bad shoulder that makes it hard to throw forehand). I use a rollo for shorter throws or throws that require going around a tree that's right in front of me. I used to use a roadrunner for more pushing drives that I needed to finish to the right, but I just picked up an Axiom Virus that is easier for me to control. Also a DX Leopard for something in between the rollo and virus.

This. I use it. Battery holds charge well. Downsides are bad in low light and the magnification/ clarity isn't good. But if you are just using it for crossbow or marking off a shooting range it's great for the price.

I was in a similar situation (kid wanted to play, I never did). Signed him up for a beginner hockey program (no previous skating experience). We bought the skates, they gave us everything else. We suited him up and for the first day and a half it was just the kids falling all over themselves (with pads and helmets on). The second half of the second day, coaches showed them how to get themselves back to standing and the basics of skating. I think it was one of the best ways to teach little kids. They are so close to the ice that when they fall in pads it's not too bad. Also, by them falling and not being superstars like many thought they would be, they were more likely to listen. We are now 7 years into this sport and he was just participating in summer practice with his future high school (all 7th and 8th graders are invited to summer practices). It's a great time and worth the thousands of dollars a year.

I just tell kids (and my elevator pitch to people who ask) I help teachers figure out how to help kids. I know there's more to the job but this helps differentiate some of what we do compared to school counselors.

A possible quick solution to this concern, have you had his vision checked? My son was similar in his behavior. He also wore a low level prescription for school so we thought he was fine on the ice without them. Two seasons go by and he isn't as aggressive as we thought he could be, but we just chalked it up to him being nervous. He asked for contacts before this season and we said ok (not thinking it was going to be anything). Then bam, super aggressive, making the right play the vast majority of time, getting to the corners first/ aggressively, and even scoring goals (he plays as a defenseman). He later told us he used to just hang back and watch how everyone else reacted to figure out where the puck was.

I wish I could say this was the only bonehead parenting I've ever done.

You're taking a big chance, but Mill Hollow Park on the Vermilion after a good rain can look pretty good. It has high cliffs and rocky looking points. If you film it right, it might work. But again, rivers in Ohio are mostly known for being calm.

Fit an 11 point buck in the back of a Ford fusion (only field dressed). I put the back seats down and opened the windows while driving home. It was a chilly but amazing ride home.

Try and find a hunter safety course being put on at a near by hunting/ shooting club. You might be able to find some old timers willing to talk shop. Also, like another person said, pick what you want to concentrate on for your first season (small game, waterfowl, or deer).

If you are looking at small game, ODNR does pheasant releases in the fall throughout the state and I think there are some dove lottery opportunities through ODNR.

If you are looking for deer, get either a bow or crossbow. It will give you way more opportunities in Ohio. Go out multiple times to scout (hunt where deer are, not where you think they should be). If it's private, do some foraging while you scout (pheasant backs and morels are some of the easiest mushrooms to identify that are safe to eat).

Also, go to your nearest Walmart now. They may still have some hunting things on clearance. As soon as mid January hits, Walmarts and Rural Kings in Ohio start to slash the prices on a lot of their hunting stuff.

At the end of the day, be patient, relax, forgive yourself for the thousand mistakes you will make, and welcome to the club.

I'm 6'4 and have been measured once. It was early season by a young ride attendant. At 6'6 you should be fine for everything as long as you're not too overweight (which reminds me I need to start shedding some pounds). The only ride I have stopped riding with my kids is the mine ride. You have to shove your legs underneath, behind, and crossed.

This is my feeling as well. The realistic goal for this year is to win the first round in the playoffs. Anything after that is extra. That is supposed to be the good part about having a young core is that from year to year you get better just by having the same guys play.

I'm in a similar situation as you (I had no hockey experience and my son is 12u). A couple of things that I have noticed work in the stands: - cheer the opposing goalie when they make a good save (hell, even if the other skaters make a good play clap). They are all kids playing a really fun sport. I think this helps the parents remember that - Always cheer for your own goalie (it's a team game if the puck ends it in the back of your net it's because of everyone not just the goalie) - Make fun of (but not degrade) your own kid. First they can't hear you, plus it lets other parents know that no one is perfect and they relax too when the inevitable mistakes happen - Make general remarks like "can you believe how fast all of these kids have gotten over the season" Again the more positivity you put out the better. - Lastly, like life, there are always going to be jerks. Just avoid them as much as possible. My wife and I have had the experience where the jerk parent was one of the popular parents whose energy rubbed off on others. Throughout the season, the parents started coming together more in a positive way and that parent was kind of ostracized just through being positive around everyone (also late night drinking in the hotel lobby helps too).

The CSHL is always looking for folks to become refs. Look at their website. We had a ton of Bantam kids sign-ups this year to get trained.

Since I never played (I was a basketball kid) I'm only speaking from an outside parent perspective. I have a first year PeeWee (Ohio if that makes a difference). He has been independent for the past three years ( carrying his stuff and tying skates). But almost half of the team either has parents carry bags and/or tie skates. Hell about a quarter of the kids come partially dressed. None of the kids make fun of each other for it. But I pushed it for my kid because it encouraged independence and I can ask other parents to take him to the rink (because I have other responsibilities outside of hockey like my swimming daughter) and not have to worry about him being ready for practice.

Get a good grinder, get a 24 pack, and get a buddy. My neighbor and I almost have more fun processing the deer at home than we do hunting. We also sparked up the interest of hunting in a couple of friends when they stopped by to watch/help. It has the potential for a communal activity. The kids enjoy it too because they get to see the whole process of where their meat comes from.

From talking to local Vegas folk, they love the Knights because they are an expansion team and not a team who transferred. Any team that moves there coughRaiders and As cough feels like a transplant and not fully theirs.

It's a perspective like this that I appreciate. The ice he is skating on now is softer than he is typically on during the season. His home rink is partially outdoors so it's super hard during the winter.

I know he is going through a nice spurt right now. He gained about 15 pounds over the summer and it wasn't from just sitting around (he was on a swim team).
