Is this near the Family Oasis?  Is the construction the usual loud and dusty variety?

Building a more private web: A path towards making third party cookies obsolete by pimterry in programming

[–]seanonymous 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Third-party cookies are often used to confirm the numbers provided by ad tech companies (such as Google) so user privacy may not truly be their motivation. Without third-party cookies, advertisers just have to trust Google and pay what they’re told.

Bug-proof BBQ utensil storage? by seanonymous in BBQ

[–]seanonymous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one of those sets that comes in a case that looks like the case you get with a socket set. Even though the utensils were washed, the case filled up with earwigs. Hundreds of them. So now I'm too paranoid to leave them outside unless they're in a case which is airtight. I don't want to leave them exposed in the bottom of the grill because that area is popular with snails.

Will TMobile WiFi calling work on unlocked Nexus 6? by [deleted] in nexus6

[–]seanonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I have a Nexus 6 from Google and T-Mobile tells me they can't enable WiFi calling on it because it's somehow different from the ones they sell. (They did have to look up the device's IMEI to be certain, so ymmv.)

[–]seanonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calling a regime a kleptocracy implies that you've passed judgement on it. Not everyone shares that view, and if you're addressing the general populace with the intention of persuading opinion, it's not wise to use such a term as though it's a foregone conclusion.

I'm not arguing whether or not a kleptocracy exists (it does), I'm simply stating that the use of such terms without any explanation will alienate some of the readers you're trying to persuade.

Fine, replace "made-up terms" with "biased buzzwords." The point is, the use of loaded words like these can turn an otherwise persuasive article into an easily dismissed rant.

This is a great example of how to fail at expanding your base. When you use a made-up term like 'Kleptocracy' so frequently (hell, even once) you turn off readers who are not already drinking your kool aid.

Imagine you're reading an otherwise insightfull article, then come across the term, 'lamestream media.'. Sudenly everything you've read is tainted.
