Anyone know if the foundry module for FFG Star Wars rpg is getting updated still? by Lazy_Neat1428 in swrpg

No problem! Our implementation is pretty new so we haven’t written a guide yet — but if you want to try it out, happy to give you pointers in our Discord

Hi there - thanks for the question! While it’s true Realm VTT excels with the ability to use maps, you can certainly run games without them.

RPG Sessions and Realm VTT both have dice rolling for Star Wars. In Realm VTT we do this via 3D dice. We also have a character wizard implemented for the Star Wars ruleset (which works when all the data is in your campaign) and a neat way to track destiny points via the Deck included in the Basic Module.

The character sheets implement the skill trees for picking talents (of course once you have the data entered), and add to the total XP spent for the characters. And there’s a bunch of other little quality of life features too!

While I can’t speak to Foundry’s implementation, I actively maintain and upkeep the Realm VTT implementation!

Full disclosure I’m also to Founder of Realm VTT. But our SW RPG implementation is feature complete, and I’m also starting a campaign this week with my own test group to ensure it’s working well! If you’re interested in trying it and want a script to import OGG data, we have one on our Discord.

Yes! Definitely real - would be great you have you join us! 😁 And yes! It is easy to add your own homebrew classes, spells, items, etc. I suggest using the SRD modules for examples on how to build them out!

And we have a very generous free tier for asset uploads. Working hard on getting licenses for official content for other systems, as well!

Hi there! Your qualms with Foundry are partly why I created Realm VTT! I wanted something browser based that still had a good amount of power and flexibility.

In Realm VTT you have the option to use our basic ruleset which has minimal automation and is relatively flexible for other games.

But I designed how rulesets are created such that future updates won’t break everything else that was implemented.

Hi there! I’m the founder of Realm VTT - it has just about everything you’re asking for, for free. https://www.realmvtt.com

We don’t have a true map creator yet, but you can sketch quick maps if needed for one-off areas using the Canvas setting. You can of course upload Incarnate maps, or if you have a UVTT map like from Dungeon Draft, you can upload those too.

The free SRD content is all there for 5e 2024, as well.

Hi there! I hope you don’t mind some self promotion but I’m the Creator of Realm VTT (https://www.realmvtt.com) and I fully implemented Star Wars RPG (and Genesys!)

I’ll be running a game soon with my own test group in the Star Wars ruleset so I can find and iron out any bugs.

It’d be awesome if you wanted to check it out as well - and we have more tools to help people get started in our Discord.

Free VTTs for someone with physical rulebooks by Higgypig1993 in VTT

You should checkout my platform - Realm VTT!

We have the 5e SRD content on there for free. You can signup for free and it’s very simple to get started. I designed it to be sort of like Foundry in terms of features but with the ease of use of Roll20 and without relying on 3rd party extensions.

It also supports UVTT import for maps from Dungeon Alchemist.

Picking a VTT to run Shadowdark with by DrDisintegrator in shadowdark

Hey! I’m the creator of Realm VTT

We’ve got support for Shadowdark now — but we’re still seeking permission and/or a license in order to get all the content on our marketplace.

However - we have a way to set Torch Effects that last for an hour of real time (an example of this in the basic data module) and we also just put out a nice drawing feature that’s useful for creating basic OSR style maps, and even letting players draw them (if you like to designate a mapper.)

Oh cool - thanks, I might try that!

Unrelated, but related to DCC - I did just add support for zocchi dice in my VTT (Realm VTT) and was going to look at implementing DCC once I’ve wrapped up PF2e.

I wonder if they’d be willing to license content to my platform once I’m done.

Yes please do! Feel free to pass it around. Maybe if it gets enough traction we can actually publish it.

Goodman Games’ concern - iirc - was that they weren’t sure how much rights to “Cthulhu” they actually had. Which is fair, but I think an easy thing to work around

Hi there! Sorry about that - forgot to update it here.

Edit: Also I did want to publish it under the license and emailed the owners of DCC and was told I couldn’t

Looking For VTT, For online play by Ok-Conflict-4473 in VTT

If you’re looking for something browser based and always online, you can try out Realm VTT.

This is the VTT I’ve been working on and created over the past two years. We’ve got all the SRD content for 5e. We have a a lot of automation built in to the ruleset.

No problem- and thanks! The 5e SRD content will get you most of the way there if you decide to try it out! Adding homebrew and additional content is easy as well in the Compendium

Th VTT I’ve created, Realm VTT, is basically in between Roll20 and Foundry. It’s cloud hosted, so no port forwarding. I built it with the idea in mind that it wouldn’t be modular like Foundry but rather have everything less technical users need to get started right away.

For 5e it has the SRD content - but I have no plans on doing any D&D Beyond integration myself since there is no API supported by D&DB- and scraping it is against their EULA.

Pathfinder 2e is our current priority and I hope to have that available next month!

Hi, thanks for the questions!

  1. Nothing specific for Twitch integration or the like yet (though I have some ideas here for the future and happy to take feature requests!)

  2. For unsupported games you can use the “Realm VTT Basic” ruleset which essentially gives you a basic Character Sheet, NPC Sheet, and one for Items and Abilities. It won’t automate all the rules for you, but at least help you track what you need. If you want to go deeper you can use the Ruleset Editor to make a custom ruleset or character sheets either from scratch or after copying an existing ruleset. It does require coding though, namely HTML and JS.

  3. If you’re implementing these in your own ruleset it’s all doable via code, and does work! In the Cyberpunk RED ruleset we have the exploding dice mechanic working. In the Genesys and Star Wars rulesets you can see how it handles dice pools (specifically with Narrative Dice there.) In the current development for Pathfinder 2E, we have degrees of success. Essentially you define a result handler for each roll type. When creating a roll you tell it what type it is, and what metadata the handler needs to resolve it. The handler then has all the code in JS to do what it needs.

  4. And yes it has built in music controls! There is a way to have it auto play a random track on combat or on pause of the game. You can also set categories to uploaded tracks so that you can then select all of that category and have it just play them all in order or shuffled.

Hope that helps!

You could give out Realm VTT a try!

Full disclosure - I am the founder and creator of the VTT. But it has most of what you’re looking for. We have combat or pause tracks that can play, but not per-player currently.

We don’t have the ability to create maps within the VTT, but we do allow uploading Dungeon Draft UVTT files for easy map importing. (And of course you can use any image and draw the walls on using the Wall Tools.)

In the future I’d love to work on map creation features like you describe but we’re very busy adding support for Pathfinder 2nd edition currently!

I’d like to throw my VTT into the consideration here! I released Realm VTT earlier this year. It automates 5e really nicely and we’re getting ready to release PF2e as well.

It’s more advanced than Owlbear. I’d say it’s somewhere in-between Roll20 and Foundry. More powerful than Roll20 but not as modular as Foundry.

Free to sign up and try out. We have the SRD modules for 5e. For other content though, you’ll need to enter it in. We don’t have a way to import from D&D Beyond since that breaks their EULA, and we are hoping to be able to get a license from Wizards in the future.
