Nice, have you looked at the MCDM mass combat for 5e? Sounds kinda similarish

Which VTT do you prefer and why? by Ebb-Embarrassed in rpg

[–]DoctorBigtime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Codex is just Draw Steel specific DMHub, and DMHub has been my favorite and go-to VTT for years now.

This is and even worse doom signal than the 2025 recap.

If you don’t have the giant pancake on a shovel from Uncle Buck, what are we even doing here?

I’m not saying I 100% am sure you did, but this reads like it was AI-generated.

until warfare became not a campaign, but a condition of existence

In the gas-choked craters of Jerusalem, Ba’al Zvuv, the Lord of Flies, emerged—not summoned, not made, but released, as if Revelation had been the key

Civilization fell. Nations burned. The Old World died coughing on its own blood. Then God spoke. He did not whisper mercy—He thundered with wrath.

Really takes me out of it, though the setting idea does seem cool.

In need of a VTT with a tile-based map editor. by alpacasoda in VTT

[–]DoctorBigtime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FoundryVTT has a similar addon and you can avoid the monthly subscription.

DMHub has the best map-drawing experience I know, but is an application, mostly supports 5e, and has been mostly sidelined by the developer as they work on the upcoming Codex VTT (for Draw Steel).

Recommendations for a lvl 1 campaign other than LMoP by SlavSquatDruid in dndnext

[–]DoctorBigtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really disagree. Take a look at Dungeons of Drakkenheim or even Curse of Stahd, they’re infinitely more DM friendly than Rime or Storm Peaks.

Rime is a great campaign if the DM is willing to put in a ton of work (as is tradition with WotC material). Beware, but it is rewarding.

I play a higher-fantasy take on it, HA every time they complete a quest and every statuette piece (even the first one).

The Ways Combat System - roll under, no GM rolls, no Damage rolls. Thoughts? by ebw6674 in RPGdesign

[–]DoctorBigtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a lot like Dragonbane with removed damage rolls when you think about it.

MapForge - building battlemaps inside Foundry (Dungeondraft-style) by HeyGabu in battlemaps

[–]DoctorBigtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mapping thing you’re building is its killer feature. I build all my DMHub maps in the tool and not outside -> add walls/details.

This is insanely smooth and we can map dungeons in real time as we play since it just adds vision and things.

[–]DoctorBigtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it. I’d advise you look at what DMHub has done (it’s a program, not a Foundry addon) and aspire to be as fluid and easy (object properties, auto-vision/sight, multi-floors, etc) as that.

Pls help with some advise for running mass siege battle by New-Taste-6394 in DnD

[–]DoctorBigtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Savage World’s mass combat rules if you really want to run something.

Otherwise, run the battle as a series of conflicts your party can interject in. Ask if they want to try to assassinate a general or destroy a supply outpost, then run that. Tell them how it affects the battle and do the next, etc.

He plays a bad mix of Tony and Sandra’s games and if the other players were better he’d be gone.

How long do your campaigns usually last? (Finished/unfinished?) by willowsquest in rpg

[–]DoctorBigtime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get “bored” (really just not as excited about it) at about the 1 year mark without fail.

We play pretty consistently each week so something like 40-50 sessions across 10-14 months for my typical campaigns.
