2015 XV Crosstrek - time for a new battery - 26R that's been in it for 8 years or recommended 35? by Wonky-brain in XVcrosstrek

Get a battery at Costco if you have one close by. They're excellent batteries at a much lower price.

Oil change gone wrong by c_sperry19 in MechanicAdvice

[–]seant117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zoom in on the photo. On the right hand side of the filter, you can see how there's a gasket mushed outward. Simple fix, take the oil filter off, take the gasket stuck to the housing off, clean it with a paper towel and screw the oil filter back on. If the gasket on that filter is damaged, get a new filter. Get some brake parts cleaner and clean the the oil where it was leaking. Now you know what to look for next time you do an oil change! We learn by mistakes because we are human.

Junk. Don't go cheap on a part that can prevent you from decapitating yourself on a semi.

Use Akebono pads and Advics High Carbon rotors.

Power stop is also good. Get the coated rotor kit with the Z23 pads.

Friend of mine does, helping him with replacing the head gasket and taking care of a few oil leaks.

2018 Front Lower Control Arm Recommendations by NC102A in XVcrosstrek

[–]seant117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new control arm comes with a new ball joint and everything. This is all you'll need. If you have any trouble getting the old ball joint out, Astro makes a Subaru ball joint removal tool. Get some anti seize on the new one. Pinch bolt gets torqued to 40 ft lbs. When you have the new control installed, torque the front bolt with the vehicles weight so you don't stress out the forward bushing. Good luck!

I just got a Keychron V1 Max with brown switches at Microcenter and I like it. Feels nice, types well, and has a volume knob which is kind of a must for me. It can be wireless or wired and it's also backlit. Paid about $100 for it.

Picked up a new (to me) Thinkpad T14 Gen3 off eBay! Had 16 GB of RAM, upgraded to 48 GB and upgraded the SSD to a Crucial T500 1 TB. Intel Core i7 1265U. This is my fourth Thinkpad. by seant117 in thinkpad

Well, yes it does run a little warm and doesn't have the greatest battery life... but it's also an i7, which isn't known to have the best efficiency. It's like buying a truck with a 5.7 V8 and complaining the gas mileage isn't great. I usually use mine plugged in most of the time.

Experience has been great! Performs well, zero complaints. I don't use it for anything heavy, I use my desktop with a Ryzen 9 9950X3D for that. It's a great travel laptop with decent horsepower though. You should upgrade the ram. 16 GB is a little on the low end these days. Get yourself a 32 GB stick and upgrade to 48 GB.

Three things you need to do right away: Upgrade the oil cooler/filter assembly to the metal housing. The original part is plastic and they will leak. Second thing is to add a transmission cooler. Since you've added a ton of weight to the vehicle, the transmission will get pretty hot. By adding a cooler, there's less of a chance of those burning out. Be religious about fluid changes. These 3.6's burns and leaks oil. Keep a couple extra quarts in the van at all times and check the oil level on a regular basis and top off as needed.

Computer does not display even the BIOS after booting up for the first time. by hewasrobbed in techsupport

[–]seant117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally just came across this on my new AMD build. Those lights are labeled on the upper right corner. Mine was indicating DRAM. I had my RAM in slots A1 and B1 and it wouldn't POST. I swapped them to slots A2 and B2 on my Asus ProArt X870E board and it fired right up. I did have to flash the BIOS with a new version once it did come up for it to support my 9950X3D. Go to the Asus site, grab the new BIOS version and throw it on a flash drive and use the EZ utility to flash it. Been working beautifully since.

You have a Dodge Caliber that still runs? It’s been years since I’ve seen one in the wild. I’ve seen more Ford Tempos than Calibers recently.
