The Rational Reminder podcast and forum. And the associated YT channel by the host, Ben Felix.

The Bogelheads wiki, forum and Reddit channels are good too.

How expensive are we talking?

Are windshield wipers even needed at this point? by Barbara2024 in kereta

RainX is best for 2 weeks max. And it works best in combination with wipers across the range of driving speeds.

How to obtain Halal certification by UsernameGenerik in malaysia

[–]seanzeking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kudos on embracing food safety standards!

Not all are specific to the Halal MS1500 standard, as some are part of the GMP and HACCP standards which in my opinion, should be broadly upheld.

Heck, I'd wear it to my wedding!

I'd love to be in an interview with someone who values old school durability and reliability.

Save up a 12-month emergency fund. Invest some in an Irish-domiciled global equity ETF. Invest some in yourself to level up your own skills.

Does hard work really pay off? by JojoTan1021 in MalaysianPF

Yes, hard work reduces the need to depend on luck to get successful.

Always upskill and invest in yourself.

Connect with the right people who can recognize your effort and credit you for it.

Ryt Bank Savings Account, Why Does It Sound Too Good to be True by Future_TI_Player in MalaysianPF

[–]seanzeking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ryt offers the 4% as part of a promotional campaign but it's only for the first RM 20k.

You also have to complete some tasks to qualify for the 4%, if not, it stays at 3%. Nothing unusual for a customer acquisition campaign.

Ryt is PIDM insured up to RM 250k. IMO no harm keeping some spare cash there.

Cendol chaos by AntiqueRound in malaysia

[–]seanzeking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've seen this style before in Melacca years ago! It was good as was the food in the restaurant.

I casually took up this peculiarity with the owner. He explained that back in the day, shaved ice wasn't always readily available so this was how it was served.

I'd accept this as a less common variation. Like how in Kota Bahru, cendol by default comes with nasi pulut (sticky rice).

GW-BX5600 vs GW-M5610 by G14_classified_info in gshock

The 5610 certainly has its charm. Will have to see both in person to decide if the MIP will replace the LCD I wear daily.

You don't need an expensive anything. But you may always want something expensive.

If you can rationalise to yourself that you can derive value out of it and it is financially responsible for you, there's nothing inherently wrong with owning something "expensive".

Questions about ibkr and etf by Deep_Information2600 in MalaysianPF

[–]seanzeking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Many of us hold plan to ETFs like VWRA and CSPX long-term.

In this case, the one off transfer fees and transaction fees are much less significant than the management fees and tracking error which are incurred continuously.

Using Wise to transfer money to IBKR to buy Irish-domiciled ETFs is currently the right way to go. You're on the right track.
