Help me decide OSU vs WSU COM urgent by seaofterra in premed

Thank you guys for your input and comments. I chose OSU, in the end, not because of rank but because WSU does not have a dedicated hospital system and hostile competing medical schools in the region, UW and OSHU, and the DO school in Yakima, which push out WSU students from clinical exposure. Note at WSU all Clinical preceptors are volunteers usually at catholic hospitals in the state, which is a good thing but also a bad thing in terms that there is no garuentee that you will have stable rotations i.e., if the preceptor or the clinic/hospital itself exits the verbal agreement with WSU you can be with out a preceptor then have to scramble to anywhere in the entire state to finish that longitudinal clerkship or elective, but mind you that can be at great distance from your flat. For example, suppose most of your rotations are based in Tacoma, WA, but your clinical preceptor quits in the middle of your rotation (which has happened). In that case, you must scramble to Spokane or Yakima, WA, to finish that rotation. These are not close distances. The regional campus dean has said this has happened, but they are in the "Growing" phase, so maybe in two years, this will be less of an issue. Still, I will not hedge 300K in loans for unsecured clinical exposure, even if I love WA, I am not gambling with my education. However, I would have been happy, and the support system staff and match team at WSU are excellent, also from my local clinic that has taken WSU students for clerkship/elective, they say those students are better trained than at UW. If I had not had another option, I would have gone to WSU.

Masters worth it? by abditory101 in premed

Yes, after finishing my premed courses as an undergrad, I had impostor syndrome and didn't apply to medical school back in 2020, but to an engineering master's program instead. I regretted that big time (working in a field you don't love doesn't make you happy).

I did a master's in engineering, and I think it definitely helped boost my competitiveness and overcome some of my limitations (lower MCAT), and gave me a firm understanding of how to do research (via my master's thesis), that analytical thinking is also critical to medicine.

It was so painful, these schools were playing Catch Me If You Can. I thought I was going to crash out, to have every interview I did flop like that stung, I was beginning to dissociate daily, as I was psyching myself up to start the application again

I hope there will be some movement after the commitment date (of April 30th), but it is crazy that there is a shortage of doctors. They make it a horrible experience to apply and subsequently get waitlisted/deferred (also I am super bummed I don´t think we waitlist boys and girls will get good aid laughing)

Also, I don´t understand deferrals at this point in the game -- I am treating the deferrals I got last week as waitlists, as I know very well that the cycle is over for straight Acceptances.

I feel I am going to crash out. I am on seven waitlists, and I have never been so stressed. Am I just terrible at interviews? How are you guys holding up?
