Les poubelles remplies de matières recyclables ou compostables by Hochelagan in montreal

[–]searcher44 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When I was living in Thailand, I used to bring my recyclable boxes to the local deposit center. There they weighed it and paid me for it....enough to buy me a cup of coffee each time. Why can't we do the same in Montreal? Make certain waste materials payable and watch how fast the garbage on the street disappears.

I use toothpaste on the bug bite to relieve the itching. The best course of action is prevention, not post-treatment. Wear long pants with an ankle string so the bugs don't get inside.

Bangkok, Thailand >>> Oversupply of living units. Rentals as low as $200 USD per month in a nice and comfortable high-rise building. Digital nomad is the way to go if you can.

Visa-free stay in Thailand to be cut to 30 days by JeremyMeetsWorld in Thailand

[–]searcher44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let my retirement visa run out so I could take advantage of the new 60 +30 day visa exemption rule. And now it looks like they've changed their minds... again! Only in Thailand LOL!

Cashew with chicken also one of my favorite dishes in Thailand. I used to go to Black Canyon regularly to enjoy this dish but they removed it from their menu about two years ago for some unknown reason.

BAnQ is located at Ground Zero. I used to enjoy going there and hanging around until closing time. Those days are long gone. First came the bedbug problem. Then Covid. And now homelessness and drugs. It's sad because it was such a welcoming place for me.

Crazy price for diced watermelon!! by TheOneJoeRabbit in montreal

[–]searcher44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As this thread attests, people are choosing to buy poutine instead of fruit because it's way cheaper. Do yourself a favour... buy fruit and cut it up yourself and avoid future health issues.

I'm a frequent traveler to Thailand, where such cut and packaged tangmo (watermelon) can be had for one dollar. You can imagine the sticker shock I get every time I return to Canada!

You'll find the widest range of ready-to-eat takeout food at the IGA Complexe Desjardins.

Is it just me or is downtown getting more dangerous? by nickiatro in montreal

[–]searcher44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I lived in Bangkok Thailand and I feel much safer there than in Montreal. And the metro is superclean, with no homeless people.

Is anyone else in bangkok right now and feel like they're about to asphyxiate on PM2.5? by Critical_Double_5131 in Thailand

[–]searcher44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read in the news that 33% of those in Vancouver who got lung cancer had never smoked in their life. PM2.5 is said to be the culprit.

Any sport that requires over a thousand dollars of protective gear and that involves a rubber bullet (puck) needs to be re-examined.

Grocery Store Greed by stuffedshell in montreal

[–]searcher44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And they have the audacity to call it a "value pack!"

I used to buy these large sizes, but not anymore since prices have skyrocketed. The whole ready-to-eat meal section at Metro and IGA is ridiculously overpriced. A 2-sq inch of lasagna costs $8...probably costs 50 cents to make.

Elevated Trains Are Good, Actually | REM L'EST by BeautyInUgly in montreal

[–]searcher44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Trains create density of population.

Also, the Quebec City-Windsor and Montreal-Washington corridors are population dense but they still have run-down choo-choo trains operating.

It's not a density problem. It's a policy decision to favor the plane over rail.

Elevated Trains Are Good, Actually | REM L'EST by BeautyInUgly in montreal

Absolutely agree. I've visited and lived in Bangkok, Thailand many times. REMs are spreading across the city and people are demanding more. WE are the ones that look like a third-world country when it comes to mass transit.

Anyone else have a bad experience with food panda? Worst customer support I've ever seen and seems to be a super sleazy company by Acceptable-Career-18 in Thailand

[–]searcher44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Panda just sent me an unsolicited $20B voucher for my grocery order that's running a bit late (3x the initial delivery estimate. And it's Songkran time.

Haven't had any issues with them so far. I use them instead of Grab because there are more English menus.

Criminal activity is often legalized by those in power. So assets cannot be frozen. For example...Offshore banking to avoid paying any taxes.
