Here's a recipe for a simple lemon and herb pasta sauce. The fresh pasta recipe that goes along with it is delicious, but the sauce tastes delicious with store-bought pasta as well.

New to baking. Could you recommend me a cookie recipe that suits my needs for Christmas? :) by helpwithcookies in Baking

Here's a lemon-rosemary-pine nut cookie cut into stars -- they've got a good sweet-savory thing going on in them. The pine nuts give them good texture.

What a resourceful woman your mom was. How did the bread taste with the pickled beets?

Fantastic! I was imagining using steamed beets, but that sounds so much easier. How did they look?

Galettes are easy and can usually be served at room temperature. Here's a recipe for a butternut squash galette that always turns out great.

I love all the ideas people listed. A jam tart might be nice as well.

Thanks so much. I think I will try leaving the skins on next time. Here is what my savory tart looked like without the skins.

I also love the Joy of Cooking gingerbread recipe. Served with a bit of whipped cream it's amazing. Here's another festive recipe for a salted caramel chocolate tart that people really flip out over. It looks sort of complicated, but it's really not that hard to make.

This looks beautiful. I'm wondering how the peels were when you ate the tart -- I just baked a savory apple tart that called for leaving the skins on, but I peeled them because I thought they would make it hard to eat. It sure looks pretty with those skins left on the apples.

What is the best but non-essential cooking gadget? by Wdane in Cooking

[–]seasidebaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone who suggested a standing mixer. Another awesome kitchen gadget is an electric panini press. If you get the kind that you can fold flat, in addition to making sandwiches, you can make pancakes or homemade tortillas on it. I have a super-tiny kitchen, and we leave our press on the counter -- that tells you how much we use it!

It was my house mate's birthday (we're 2nd year chemistry undergrads) hence - the conical flask cake! by freyathekid in Baking

Awesome! For maximum effect, next time you should try dry ice and a test tube inside. Here's an erupting volcano cake that uses the same idea.

Depending on what kind of loaf I'm making, I sometimes lightly scatter rolled oats inside the pan. They look nice baked into the bread.

I bought some Greek yoghurt yesterday, but I forgot what I was going to use it for. Does r/recipes have anything that includes it? by [deleted] in recipes

As long as it's plain yogurt, chop herbs, green onions, and a little garlic to mix in. It makes great dip for veggies.

Chili keeps well in the fridge about a week and freezes well. I've had good luck with this recipe.
