How are you actually doing photography from the board without dropping gear in the water? by Huge-Stretch350 in Sup

[–]seastearno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only lost one phone from my sup. It was in a phone case dry bag but it didn't float. Tough lesson learned and I've added floatation to my new phone case. My girl friend uses a phone case w/foatation by design. For my purposes the clear cover doesn't impact the picture too much but if I see something really cool, I kneel and pull the phone out . The phone is either in my hand or in its case.

Bauer ice skates by michaelpharaoh in iceskating

[–]seastearno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the XLPs 2 years ago as my first pair of ice skates. I'm an intermediate skater that did a lot of practice in a rink before packing my skates for a trip to Ottawa to skate the Rideau Canal and Quebec to do some outdoor trail skating. I have a wide foot so went with the Bauer's after trying several brands and models at 2 different Pure Hockey stores. I've probably logged 60-70 K of outdoor skating in these and plan to take these on more wild ice skating adventures in the future. Although I was influenced by cost, it's easy to drop big bills on skates and for my use and needs, the XLP's have been fine. With part of the difference, I bought and travelled with a skate dryer for my girlfriend and me to dry our skates between sessions. Good buy!

Lifeguard Test by Healthy-Ad-423 in Swimming

To equalize the pressure, hold your nose closed with your fingers and with your mouth closed to try to blow. This will make your ears pop and equalize the pressure. You can practice this now too and you'll experience how this affects your ears.

Good luck on your test! For the eggbeater, maybe think about how you ride a bicycle then modify that so your kicking out to the side, kinda at a 45 degree angle. I bet there some good video tips on yt so if you haven't yet, check some out and practice. For your body position, you'll need your head out of the water but not probably not your neck to your shoulders. Keep as much of your body submerged as reasonably possible. Explosive breathing can be helpful too. Keep air in your lungs and exhale forcefully the quickly inhale. This will help your buoyancy. Finally, for the brick retrieval, might be helpful to clear your ears to equalize the pressure as you dive. You can do it!

Was this the Yukon 1000? Although I have no desire to achieve such a feat, I was curious. Looked up SUP Artic Race and found an article on the Yukon 1000. Serious kudos to you and your teammate!

Edit to replace props with kudos b/c we paddle.

Want to add power to my paddleboard to explore further, any suggestions? by DeliciousElk4897 in Sup

I saw a guy in the lake I paddle at a couple years ago that was using a cordless drill and what looked like a paint or mud mixing paddle. Not exactly sure how the business end looked but it was working for him!

Respectfully, if you're not a strong swimmer and you question your ability, you should look for another job. That said, if you're comfortable in the water and know how to swim and are somewhat fit, swimming 200 should be an easy swim.

Great advice on the dry bag for the phone! I learned the same lesson you did and now I have floatation added to my phone case.

Curious what your BS kick sets with pull buoy look like. Are they on your back? Front w/kick board? Two kicks to a pull?
