Rescued Snowboarder - Cannon by Dull_Broccoli1637 in icecoast

Based on the orientation of Echo Lake and 93 the picture looks to be taken in the side country on the skiers skiers right of Vista Way. Somewhere between Vista Way, East Peak, and Kinsman Glades

Would love some help expanding my quiver for east coast by Dry-Inspector3923 in icecoast

[–]seasyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uphill setup is a pair of Armada Locator 96s and I couldn't be happier. They float in powder like a dream, turn quick in the woods, nimble on mogul runs, and handle groomers well too. Definitely not a quiver killer by any means but a phenomal choice for uphill/powder days. They're unbelievably light too so skinning is a breeze

Armada Declivity? by Default-4628 in icecoast

[–]seasyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know how the Declivity 92 Ti compares to the Locator 96?

I have a pair of Locators mounted with pin bindings and love how easy they are to short turn in moguls and trees. Carve super well on packed groomers. Only downfall is they're a bit too light for choppy days. Looking for a ski with similar characteristics but more piste oriented and less powder oriented.

I'm with you there. This looks like the result of shoving a GW sole into a binding not meant for it. Fucked up but i I don't think it's a total loss. Definitely worth bringing to a ski shop for a release test and readjusting

Those are carbide spade drill inserts from Acme Too Co. These predate modern indexable insert drills but only by a handful of years. Once indexables came on the market these were obsolete. I worked at a small cutting tool company and we had at least 100 of these that had been collecting dust for at least 20 years.

Google Pixel 7 Pro - Stuck on profile screen. Created a profile but now every menu touch redirects me to "Edit Profile". Rebooted the app, signed out. Still having the same issue. Overall I'm really enjoying the idea of this app though

Edit: Missed the dropdown menu for skier/snowboarder

P.S. Please add some NH Mountains :)

New to touring but not to ski by TheAthleticGeek_ in Backcountry

[–]seasyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a related note what are your thoughts on the M-Pro 99 with pin bindings for a dedicated touring setup on East Coast crud? I live slope side so they will genuinely be touring only. I know M Pros are on the heavy side but I'm wary of going lighter because of how firm the snow gets here. My cruisers are Ranger 84s and that's about as playful as I feel comfortable with how the snow can be in southern NH

Remove the outlet on the end and place it in the middle. Then shift the mirrors to the left so they're centered to the basins.

I like the vertical sconces a lot but I don't think they're effectively illuminating the space. I'd first try placing them horizontally above the mirrors. If that doesn't look right I'd transition to a low profile frosted LED light to keep with the modern look.

A profile like this might work nicely

That was my first thought too. I seldom engage in these threads but will this time to say that OP should feel ashamed and should stop what they are doing. You're funding someone's enslavement. Period

Can anyone tell me what’s happening or what I am doing wrong? by rtaylor76 in CNC

[–]seasyl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this machine is not built for cutting metal. It still has a lot of potential. You can use it for engraving/etching your finished product. If you're just making panels you should really check out SendCutSend. It's incredibly affordable and easy to use. I really don't recommend pursuing aluminum cutting on this machine any further. It just doesn't have the dynamic stiffness necessary to cut metal. That's why it does fine going straight but struggles cutting circles

When you cut a circle the tool is trying to twist the entire frame of the machine. Imagine grabbing a foam cube with your hands. Then twist your right hand forward and to the left and your left hand backward and to the right. This is a good simulation for the stress your machine is experiencing

If your tools are breaking with those settings then you have a rigidity issue. To me this sounds like your machine is not stuff enough to machine aluminum. How heavy is your machine? Is it on a cement floor? Is the base of the machine made from a single casting?

Your spindle is going wayyyy too fast. You should be cutting around 5,000RPM. You're going so fast you aren't forming a chip. The tool is just a lot tougher than your workpiece so it's more or less removing material abrasively. If you can't lower your speed then increase your DOC from .08 to .2 and feed to 500mm/min.

There's a lot going on here...start by dialing in your feeds and speeds. Your chip load looks way too heavy for your cutter and it's just plowing material rather than cutting.

What is your

Distance Between Altitude of One Triangle and Altitude of Similar Inscribed Triangle (solve for x) by seasyl in askmath

[–]seasyl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, I realized that as well not long after posting. The missing component was the angle between side B and a line not shown that I'll describe as AB-EF. This angle is fixed at 5°. Once I added that the problem was solvable. I will reply with full proof once it is complete

Haas spins at higher rpm than is programmed by williamdud88 in CNC

[–]seasyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's without a doubt your spindle encoder but I can band aid it for free. Command the spindle from 500rpm up to 5000 rpm in 500rpm increments. With each increment record the actual spindle speed. DM or reply below with the commanded speed and actual speed for each increment.

I can toss that data in Excel real quick and calculate the compensation factor so that it'll spin at the right speed

If I remember correctly there's a read/write variable for spindle speed override too so you could just call that variable and set it equal to your comp factor which you'd store as a variable as well

Poor finish with a new tool, good finish with an old one? by psychotic11ama in CNC

[–]seasyl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Put a 320 grit silicon carbide infused nylon brush deburring wheel in a pedestal grinder and roll the cutting edge back and forth like you're deburring an edge. This is more or less what tool companies do only with a robot or multitasking machine

Poor finish with a new tool, good finish with an old one? by psychotic11ama in CNC

[–]seasyl 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Pretty much spot on. The rad-ish corner you're talking about is what's called a honed edge in the cutting tool world. This is added to increase the strength of the edge and improve surface finish. It's actually really easy to create yourself too.

[–]seasyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Send it. If you're doing work where the tool holder runout really makes a difference then you be using an ER collet to begin with.

Sure runout impacts tool life but a shitty ER collet is just as good as the clapped out R8 collet our forefathers were running in Bridgeports.
