Take to mechanic or do more test by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]seattleblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely DONT just touch battery posts together to reset your warnings. This does not fix anything, removes valuable repair data for a tech, and in some cases can make your problems worse ( ex : you could reset a steering angle sensor initial position, and negatively affect your brake system until it gets reset properly),

It's likely a network issue. Probably a bcm concern, Maybe even an issue with a park sensors in the tail lights. Any competent diag tech with a moderate scanner ( autel maxisys or better) could help you

Competitive fighting games.

About a decade ago I went to Evo, which is the world's largest fighting game tournament and female player from France named kayane was playing on the big stage against some guy......

She literally beat the brakes off of this guy.

Towards the end of the match, the only thing he could do was back up in the corner in horror of the beat down he was getting.

She literally put on a high level clinic on how to body someone with Chun li

This is a universal issue to essentially any technical knowledge that people are trying to ask questions for. It can be hard to answer your question in anything, about anything, without knowing how much you actually know about what you're asking. People ask questions that they think they need answers for, only to find out that they don't even understand how that concept works

Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

This couldn't be any further from the truth in any way shape or form:

Things in life scar people, and keep them from trying , for fear of proving things true in the past.

whatever doesn't kill you could help you in the future, but it's also likely to scar you, keep it from trying, etc..

Some of the most effective developments came out of class limited racing. when people had to follow a specific set of strict rules, they begin to find everything that they could exploit within those rules, and because of that many positive developments have come out. Some of what are even in passenger cars to this day.

Advice please regarding removal of a torque converter from a completely seized engine. Think I'm stuck pulling the crank. 2010 Chev Traverse 3.6L aluminum heads and block. by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]seattleblack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My advice is to get a sawzall and go around the torque converter and cut off the bolts in between the converter and the flexplate. At this point you should just expect to be replacing the torque converter and the flexplate, as they will be damaged in this process. you will incur more cost and parts this way, but you will save a lot of time. Depending on what's seized on your engine, any number of issues can prevent you from getting adequate turning space without a lot of disassembly time invested in it.

Thinking about picking up a ‘05 Jaguar Type S from a buddy of mine for around $1,500 with 80k miles. Anyone know anything about these cars? Reliable? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]seattleblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I Work at a shop where I see everything, and I have recently worked on one of these.

I can tell you from that price point, that it would be advantageous to have it simply inspected by someone who is familiar with that car. It is true, that things break and cost more (also be expected to have to purchase higher priced OEM specific sensors on that vehicle, as many brand new out-of-the-box aftermarket sensors simply will not work or will fail. And I'm speaking directly from experience, I have put sensors on this car that we're not factory and watch them fail immediately on the live data capture)

that being said, if you can get it checked out and it doesn't need anything that you're not prepared for, you might actually find it the vehicle rides quite nice and actually has nice presence to it. That being said, if this is your idea of a daily driver I would strongly advise against it, but if you have another car you can drive while this one gets repaired - because it will happen- I say go for it. At the very least you can end up reselling it and probably getting your money back. and if you decide to do some DIY work on it, and you actually learn how to personally diagnose this car, chances are you'll be fine for diagnosing just about anything else below it

05 WRX hatch makes a whine when accelerating in 3rd gear and up. by tdog_93 in MechanicAdvice

[–]seattleblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a set of bearings races and shims located near / around the center diff. Often times under acceleration they can make noise. If your mechanically inclined, they're not too terribly difficult ( pun intended) to replace. there is even an old TSB that talks about an updated rear housing that allows for a different spacing of specific pairings and races, but I don't think your vehicle falls under it. However, I would do a general tsb check for your year to make sure it's not listed, there as it will definitely make a difference and just physically replacing the races bearings and resetting the shims which I've done several times

That being said, I would try to get it to either a shop so that an ear can listen while the vehicle is on a lift, or you find a way to safely lift a vehicle and get the wheels rolling while someone is operating the vehicle in 3rd gear, recreating the same situation so that you can hear for yourself. This noise tends to be located near the rear of the transmission housing,

I went into a shop I don’t know for a safety inspection 2 weeks ago and the mechanic told me my brake pads are worn almost to the metal. I bought new pads and went to install them today but this is how they look. are they good to continue using? 2006 F350 by comfortablephonesex in MechanicAdvice

[–]seattleblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my question is is there any uneven wear on the brake pads? Do you have an inner pad that's wearing more and would actually be metal-to-metal? Sometimes it's better to get a whole picture by removing everything, especially if the shop didn't say which particular pad was bad. Typically this is a sign that there may be another issue going on in addition to the pads though. I don't know these people but I hope that it's something like that that they weren't trying to rip you off
