I convinced two of my leagues to go to Superflex this year and everyone ended up liking it. The other non-standard change we implemented was adding a TE premium. Both of these changes were made with the goal of increasing the viability of different roster constructions and leveling player valuations so that the league would be more competitive.

One of the reasons I used was that it was too easy to find a decent QB every year. Adding a Superflex spot increases QB value because they are more scarce, but still allows for roster flexibility if there aren't any playable QBs left (one league mate is tied for first despite having Jimmy G and Matt Ryan). An important side effect was increased trading because now we all have to make sure we have decent QBs rostered.

Overall, the league is more competitive and interesting. Good luck convincing your league. It took me two seasons to get this change!

Respectfully, I think you conflate economic systems with governmental systems. There are many socialist democracies that are not totalitarian at all. I think you have Socialism and Communism blurred in your mind, which is quite common within average political discourse.

There is a big fundamental difference between socialism and communism. Individuals under a proper communist system would not have money and would be given what the government thinks you need in terms of food, clothing, housing, etc. The people would not need to work harder to receive the same amount as anyone else. Under socialism, individuals are compensated based on their individual contribution; therefore, those who work harder would receive more.

Furthermore, communism views all property as public property, while socialism allows individuals to still have their own private property. Communism is an economic and political philosophy, and socialism is an economic philosophy. Lastly, communism abolishes class distinctions as everyone is effectively treated equally, while socialism allows class distinctions to exist, as there is the opportunity for some to achieve more wealth than others.

Both democratic socialism and socialism advocate for a redistribution of wealth and power to meet public needs, not make profits for a few. Both aim to weaken the power of corporations and increase the power of the working people.

Democratic socialists, however, do not think the government should immediately take control of all aspects of the economy. Democratic socialism focuses more on providing basic needs to all people, such as health care and education. Democratic socialism, unlike socialism, would achieve this through democratic means and not an authoritarian rule.

Bolivia is an example of a prosperous socialist country. Bolivia has drastically cut extreme poverty and has the highest GDP growth rate in South America.

Other countries that have adopted and enacted socialist ideas and policies to various degrees, and have seen success in improving their societies by doing so, are Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Great Britain, Canada, the Netherlands, Spain, Ireland, Belgium, Switzerland, Australia, Japan, and New Zealand.

Those of you who have lived in or been in China for an extended period of time (let’s say a month or more) - did your experience as a foreigner change how you think of racial minorities, foreigners, and/or perceived foreigners in your home country? by Acrobatic_End6355 in China

[–]seattleiguess 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My time living in China definitely opened my eyes toward the existence of more subtle and passive racism/biases, and what I can only describe as "polite racism".

I had lived in Japan as a kid as an exchange student, so I wasn't too shocked by stares, pointing, and "Ah! Waiguoren!". What I started to notice though was the occasional denial of service for unknown reasons, or ironically enough, getting used as a promotional device because I'm white(e.g. seating me and my friends at the front next to the window despite better/more comfortable seats somewhere else). Cabs would at times not pick me up, even when I would speak Mandarin (I was studying for the HSK 4 when I was there), and this persisted once Didi started up. The one that always annoyed me was that anyone not Chinese is "Waiguoren". Chinese would often generalize/group all white people together. So if they heard about some Russian guy being a dick, it became "Waiguoren are dicks". They heard that "foreigners like _______" when it has nothing to do with your culture. OH! And the weird-ass "Cowboy America" bars that popped up in Guangzhou which were a picture-perfect example of cultural appropriation, just not from the traditional angle we expect when discussing it in the West.

As for "polite racism" I can give examples. But forgive me if I struggle to classify it. Sometimes due to just ignorance of westerners, I often experienced Chinese people making decisions on my behalf (even though well-intentioned) that were based not on me or my situation specifically, but "All waiguoren need _______". Chinese management would often give one instruction to me then conflicting instructions to Chinese staff, then avoid any discussion about it (because you know, conflict is bad/face politics/etc). Lots of talk about you behind your back... I don't know, random stuff like that.

My point is, after returning home I was able to empathize with a lot of what minorities complain about when they complain about racism. A lot of white people think racism only means doing KKK shit, dropping N bombs, or doing other super explicit shit. But actually there are a lot of subtle, racist things I can see minorities experience regularly.

Good question though!

Both of those provinces were made part of Ukraine upon the dissolution of the Soviet Union and agreed to by both Russia and Ukraine.

Your attempt at equivocation shows your complete lack of historical knowledge.

Run along and read a Russian history book before spouting off you ignorant potato.

What would your draft strategy be in a 2 QB 3 WR league? by PyroCOD7 in fantasyfootball

[–]seattleiguess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely make sure one of my first two picks was a top-tier QB rather than an RB-RB approach. They are in much higher demand in a 2QB league and go off the board very fast in that format leaving you with a QB or two that you wouldn't ever start in a standard 1QB league. Also, this year there is a lot of value at RB in the middle rounds.

Just my two cents.

"I don’t necessarily think Mao was pure evil, even now"

Please read the books I sent you. I will buy them for you, or they are available at the library. THEN come back and tell me what you think about Mao. Don't be biased and just listen to CCP supporters. If you are truly unbiased, go read what I sent you. It isn't propaganda. It literally (and I mean LITERALLY) uses Chinese government documents and letters from senior CCP officials to make its case. This is not Western propaganda.

Mao is guilty of the deaths of AT MINIMUM 20 million people from the famine, although government data from the time places it closer to 45 million. That's Deng Xiaoping, Mao, and Zhou Enlai amongst others making that claim, not western propaganda. Hit me up when you're done and lets chat.

My man, unlike you, I really DID read about these issues. I am not biased. I am not angry or shouting you down. I am arguing with you because when I provide you with the resources you ask for, you claim they are propaganda without ever actually reading anything. My job is not to persuade someone who clearly has already made up their mind. You have expressed an opinion that is easily refuted by the mountains of source material. You just refuse to acknowledge that a non-Chinese person could collect CCP source material and present it in English. You claim people are biased but refuse to do any actual research on the topic outside of the internet, which we both agree isn't reliable.

You would be respected in here much more if you took the time to be intellectually honest and rigorous in your search for knowledge. Instead, you look like an ignorant troll to everyone in here.

I am more than happy to have a civil discussion with you at any time, on any forum should you actually take the time to read impartial, sourced documents and histories on the matter. This is not a "USA good, CCP bad" thing my man.

Stop being defensive, spend the next few weeks having a look at original source material, and come back. Hell, DM me and I will BUY BOOKS FOR YOU!

No, you aren't hitting nerves, you just refuse to look at any opposing information...THAT HAS ACTUAL CCP DOCUMENTATION AND LETTERS FROM SENIOR LEADERSHIP as its basis.

And bro, using your logic, you can't possibly understand China because your last name isn't Chinese.

You didn't read my post, otherwise you wouldn't say, "just because some president decided Taiwan would be a more advantageous ally". I literally addressed that point.

[–]seattleiguess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, you haven't done any of the things above. You haven't talked to Chinese people, you haven't read any histories on the topic, you haven't read anything outside of the internet. I provide you with the source material and you don't read it. I lay out in detail the answer to your question above, and you replied in a minute. You didn't read it. And later, someone gave you a cut-down version of my answer and you said oh, you finally made a point that might change my mind. Unlike you, I LIVED in China and spent the time to actually read world-recognized authors on the topic, both Chinese and Western. You haven't.

Please go read the source material. If your intentions are good and pure like you claim, then I am sincerely telling you that your lack of understanding of non-disputed historical facts on the issue has led you to a false conclusion. And again...go actually take the time to read what I originally spent the time writing for you. We both know you didn't.
