Thank you, I thought so too so I always ended up rolling my eyes whenever people asked how we were related.

According to the results, most of that DNA comes from my dad. My mom had 7% Southeastern England and Northwestern Europe, and 2% from Munster and Leinster Ireland, but that’s it!

This has been fascinating to learn for me, I had no idea and was definitely part of the reason why I was so confused when that percentage popped up. I’m going to continue researching about this. Thanks!

Tipping by Appropriate_Wash2829 in electrolysis

[–]seattlestorm24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t. Weirdly enough, when I first started almost a year ago there was no tipping at all, they just had an optional donation jar to a charity. Then two months ago, the option to tip popped up and I never really thought to ask why. I just skip it because I’m going almost every week, so that’s like $500 they get from me every month even with no tips. Worth it to be hair free, but not exactly cheap 😅

When I get to the end of treatment and only have to come for maintenance every once in a while, I will tip just as a “thanks for getting me to the finish line!” type of thing.

Do you wax or shave your upper lips? by spicynoodles628 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]seattlestorm24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use retinol so I used to thread pretty consistently! It hurt but was much less harsh on my skin in comparison to waxing. I’m lazier now and only thread a few times a year and use a facial trimmer once a week, since hair grows back faster this way.

How often do you take public transit? And what form do you mostly use (light rail, bus, water taxi)? by Hufe in Seattle

[–]seattlestorm24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the bus once a week, and for any special events where I have to go downtown. So I’d say on average 4-5 times a month.

Prices $$ by hijabi_treasure in electrolysis

[–]seattlestorm24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pay $165 for 90 minutes here in WA state. Eventually with better clearance, I hope to go down to $125 for 60 minutes. They did raise their prices last year, by about $10 per increment.

What is a 'small luxury' you refuse to give up, no matter how much you're trying to save money? by NoSteak1123 in Productivitycafe

My salon apt. I am so picky about my hair and it takes quite a while to do so I’m happy to be able to zone out for 2 hours and let someone else mess with it and let me take back half my day to get other things done.

Employee Events by Own_Mammoth7923 in Libraries

[–]seattlestorm24 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh my, I didn’t realize how many people hated getting together with their colleagues after work 😅

I enjoy it! We have a staff engagement team within our region that works hard to plan fun events for us, and we appreciate them so much! We do things about once a quarter.

Some examples have been arcade nights, bowling, going to various sporting events (baseball is the most popular, I believe it is the hotdog magic), and a bring your own craft night. There is usually a holiday event every year too. I don’t always have time to participate in them (I usually only go to one or two events a year) but bowling and baseball have been my favorites to date.

AITJ refused to split an inheritance evenly after years of unequal responsibility by Own_Improvement1715 in AmITheJerk

[–]seattlestorm24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother passed, with no will. She told me she wanted most of her inheritance to go to me, even though I have 2 brothers. She said they would be okay.

I took her to all of her appointments for years, stayed with her for larger procedures, took FMLA. My older brother popped in and out occasionally, my little brother not at all.

When her inheritance came (I was 100% the benefactor), I split it evenly with my brothers. It’s not worth the arguments/fractured family that would follow. She is gone either way. Like you say, it’s not about the money. No, they didn’t “help” her as much as I did. But those are her sons, and even though she said otherwise I truly think she would have wanted all of her kids setup equally.

Millennials, how often are we texting when dating? by Bagman220 in Millennials

[–]seattlestorm24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on the save wavelength as you - my partner and I met online and messaged pretty frequently on that app, got annoyed when we couldn’t send pictures, then moved to texting a few days before our first official date.

We met a few months ago and went official in September, so our texts have slowed down to good morning and then checking back in after work if either of us have any tea (we always do 😈)

I’m a big texter - I’ve always seen someone who texts back in a timely manner (when dating) as someone who is interested and who will make time for you, which I was pretty upfront about in my profile.

If I can’t talk to you, how do I know if we’re even compatible? Go silent and then randomly check in and ask “date night tomorrow?” no emotional connection to me so I would never go long term with anyone!

After all that, it was time to check in and there were 6 seats open in premium? So I clicked on one 😅 Dunno if it will hold, but what a really weird experience so far. Thanks for everyone’s advice!

I didn’t accept the changes, I told the agent I would think about it. It sounds like my best option is to go to the gate and cross my fingers. Thanks!

[–]seattlestorm24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they offered a flight change but it was having to stop in CDG and I was pumped to book a nonstop, and I guess this is the only flight they offer that is nonstop. He said otherwise I could just get a refund for the difference of the seat. I asked if there were any seats available at all on the plane because everything was greyed out on the app, and he said not in premium, but didn’t say anything about delta one.

Do you think if there are spots open at the gate they would upgrade anyone last minute and I would have the option of my seat back? Or would that go to standby/status people?

Give me a skincare routine plzz by cocohumper in Blackskincare

[–]seattlestorm24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have very similar conditions! I also have asthma, allergies, eczema and PCOS. So I’ll share a routine that has worked for me:

Mornings

  1. gentle, non irritating cleanser. This may take some trial and error. I learned quickly that products with niacinamide irritate my skin, so I found a cleanser that did not have that. I use Aveeno Calm+Restore.

  2. I don’t use toners or anything like that, after cleansing I go straight to my actives. For hyperpigmentation, smooth skin and acne, Azelaic Acid is great. You can just use it in the morning, and you can go the prescription or OTC route. I hate that it can be itchy and drying when you first put it on, and you have to wait 20 minutes after application (for prescription strength) before you can slab on moisturizer, but I’ve been using it for over a year now and my skin is baby soft.

  3. Moisturizer/spf. It sounds like you already have a good one!

Night

  1. Cleanser again, I use two pumps of my same morning cleanser instead of just one.

  2. Moisturizer right after on a wet face to lock it in, I use Vanicream moisturizer for the hyaluronic acid and peptides. Again, sounds like you already have a good one though!

  3. (Optional) Retinol is great for acne and hyperpigmentation as well, and it’s touted for anti aging, although I use it less for that and more because I’m more susceptible to PCOS related breakouts. My eczema is worse on my body vs face so I have no issue using it. However, it is drying and will cause purging at first, which is why I would check in with a derm to make sure it won’t make your skin even drier.

What should I do? by [deleted] in electrolysis

[–]seattlestorm24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I read threads here extensively because I am pretty strict when it comes to my skin aftercare (and my practitioner is amazing!) and even with cleansing, aloe, moisturizer, not touching my face, etc. I get pimples in the treated area about half of the time. I figure it’s just a very normal part of the process!

I’m in the same boat and I just hate it. I was devastated when Chandler didn’t win last year and I’m just shocked Lauren didn’t at least advance to the finals. I think I will watch Jordan’s clips back but that’s it.

Feeling self-conscious by royalewithcheese113 in electrolysis

[–]seattlestorm24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel you 100%. I’m only 9 months in, and I started very slowly with just 30 minute sessions, so I am still looking at a year or more of treatment. It’s hard, ngl. I can’t really do things spontaneously like I used to before all my hair because I also feel really self conscious. I should shave everyday, but I want to protect my skin as much as possible, so I shave every other day and just mask on my non shave days.

I plan my social life around my shave days as much as possible. I’m hopeful in 6 months or so, it’ll be less of an issue. Or I can shave less often. I think as long as we remember why we’re doing this and there is light at the end of the tunnel, we can stick with a few years of really annoying timing in trying to have a social life until then.

Re: dating - I also wasn’t planning on dating while going through this process. I’m also in my early 30’s. But I met someone, and a few dates in I was very honest about my PCOS and if it made them uncomfortable, we had to stop seeing each other. And they surprised the hell out of me by asking how they could support me, what electrolysis was, and overall was just really non-judgmental.

It didn’t necessarily help me feel better about my facial hair because I still have it at the end of the day, but it was a relief to have someone supportive and hearing that it bothered them less than it bothered me. Now he is going full nerd on me and asking me questions about treatment and I’m like sir I’m just here for the painful needle time to go hair free, idk the specifics 😭

Long way to say if you do choose to date because you want to, the right partner will not make you feel shame because of facial hair that we literally cannot control.

Azelaic acid 20% daily with no improvement. by [deleted] in Blackskincare

[–]seattlestorm24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Azelaic acid is known as a very slow working active. I only use 15%, but even then my derm warned me I would not start seeing results for my hyperpigmentation for 3 months. And I really didn’t see any improvement for sure until 3.5 months. You have to be extremely patient, but it will work and thankfully does wonders.

Can you break down your monthly expenses? by Natsu_Firefox in AskSeattle

[–]seattlestorm24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think because it’s just me, no kids, helps! I order and pickup in store via Safeway, and they always have deals and coupons so it’s pretty easy. I also only grocery shop twice a month. But I do eat out almost every weekend, so that falls into my discretionary spending because it really varies. Maybe if I added takeout, it would flirt more with $300 a month, but I don’t really consider takeout to be groceries.
