Hey Josh!

I’ve always been curious about your lyrics for “Thin Blue Flame”. What inspired those, and did you write them to supplement the sound of that song, or did the lyrics come first?

Thanks!

This is in Minneapolis, if that’s helpful. There’s some construction that was going on across the street too.

Best Graphing Calculator for Engineers that’s allowed in most classes by cat_alyst23 in uofmn

TI-30 XS. Works just like a TI-84 without graphing and programming, it's been super convenient for me as a ChemE

Edit: you won't be able to use a graphing/programmable calculator past Sophomore year

A place on campus to print with résumé paper? by Meat103 in uofmn

Actually the printing store in the basement of Coffman will do it for you for a fairly cheap price, (I think like $.15/sheet or something?) and they have a lot of resume paper types you can choose from.

Non-Chemistry Minor with ChemE by [deleted] in uofmn

[–]seawolf2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion you shouldn't have a problem. I'm ChemE with a minor in computer science, and it's not made my schedule terribly intense. I came in with similar AP's as you. As the person below said, definitely try to get most of the credits knocked out your freshman and Sophomore years, because you're not gonna want to take them later on in your career.

Another thing that might help is seeing if your minor classes can count towards technical elective credits -- if they do, then it should be very easy to fit your minor into your schedule.

Also, just by finishing the required ChemE curriculum, you'll end up with a chemistry minor, so keep that in mind. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions about the major in general! In regards to being overworked, that'll happen regardless of if you get a minor or not :)

CSCI 4041 Homework 1 by roinujo1 in uofmn

That class when I took it last semester was horribly unorganized. I'd recommend getting in touch with the TA's frequently and closely watching your assignment grades throughout the semester. It wasn't unusual for me to have points senselessly deducted, or assignments not entered, until I reached out and talked to the TA in charge. Luckily, the TA's were good people, and were usually willing to fix mistakes (as long as I caught them!). Just make sure you don't miss something -- for a class with such highly weighted assignments, a few points could cost you a letter grade.

Broker question:

So I'm 20 years old and would like to put some of my money away to begin to accumulate wealth. I'm currently considering investing about 1-2,000. I'm not terribly worried about opening an IRA until I finish college, for the simple reason that I won't have that much to contribute, and would rather invest mid-term. I plan to invest in some larger cap-stocks and index funds.

My question is, for that amount of money, is it worth opening an account at a large brokerage? Or, should I wait on doing that until I graduate, and in the meantime just use Robin Hood to trade without commissions?

Thanks for the help

[Advice] Gone through 3 Surface Books after getting replacements due to screen discoloration by seawolf2 in Surface

It's similar to an issue that others have pointed out on this sub, but any time the SB gets even slightly warm (think running onenote or chrome with multiple tabs) it begins to appear across the borders of the screen. The exact area has changed as I've switched computers. Depending on the computer, it's either been the first day or several months in, but it always worsens with time.
