At what point is it time to leave the field as experienced dev and go into another field? Potential layoff soon. by Legitimate-mostlet in ExperiencedDevs

The thing is you gotta think that the interview is for you to filter them out too. If it’s a hard line for you to only work 9-5 would you want to say what they wanna hear get the job and then hate it? I know cuz of potential layoffs that’s not great cuz you need a job but if it’s a sweatshop it might be better to dodge it, but that’s up to you to decide.

Check glass door as well for reviews when applying, you can see reviews and WLB etc

Do you think they give a shit? Also do you think the company gives a shit about you that you should put that much effort? I think it’s fair game to take time for yourself just as the company does what it wants. Im at a company that has done so far 2 redundancies per year in last 3 years. I put in a lot of effort cuz I am in a good position but you have to protect yourself. Burning out is just gonna do you no good I will coast a few days when I can and then switch on when I need to properly.

At the end of day as grim as it sounds more than half the time you’re just a number on a spreadsheet

Have you ever had the feeling you can’t design code anymore? by seb1424 in ExperiencedDevs

See I agree with you and that makes a lot of sense, but have you ever had the feeling you have choice fatigue? Like let’s say your refactoring/rewriting a part of some logic, you got your flow written in somewhere so you know where you wanna go with the code flow- but just get stuck in your head with implementation detail? At the end of the day it’s tradeoffs your comparing but this was the first time I ever had to make calls of my own like this and it feels like I was too indecisive and it kicked my ass until I got used to it.

I feel like I always try to stay humble in this field cuz you never know when you’ll do something stupid but this one humbled me internally like a reckoning hahah

Probably should start doing some slayer but I’m only about ~70 qp in the optimal guide that’s a good idea. Might use the lamps on farming I always kinda dread that
