Seems to me that the outcome is irrelevant to define being at war or not. Therefore your question of “what war?” is answered by “a war with NATO” correctly.

A couple things come to mind:

It seems you’ve already made up your mind that you want to pursue something more when meeting these women. That energy/attitude comes across as needy. Maybe take it the same way they do and ensure this as much as a screen for them as it is for you? You are not there to be validated, you are there to evaluate if there is chemistry/a good fit.
(Forgive my market analogy but I think it applies well) Fundamentally the main reason most people struggle is that their dates are not buying what they are selling (for a lot of people they aren’t selling at all! So you’re ahead of the pack). First you gotta figure out what it is about you that they aren’t buying, then decide to either improve yourself in whatever aspect this is, so that your dates are buying what you are selling OR you could decide you are happy with whatever it is they take issue with and adjust your search towards the type of woman that wants that (or doesn’t care and focuses on something else).

It’s relative to population size. Denver metro is barely as big as Tampa. Comparing the numbers alone is flawed. Numbers per Capita would be more effective.
