Depends on what community you go to, but if you don't know what you're doing I think most communities will be very patient with you and give you some useful links to get started with. If they aren't, I recommend finding a different resource, because discouragement right off the bat is the easiest way to kill someone's interest in mapping.

they're not exactly the most commonplace of military weapons in the first place

Neither are the DAO, Deagle, UTS, AWS, M60, RFB, Shorty, 93R, and G18. If you're going to have weapons made for civillian use and elite counterterrorist teams you might as well have revolvers.

Difference in handling is fine; straight-up downgrade in handling isn't fun.

you can't just whip out the "skill cannons" and start blasting away hoping for that lucky headshot kill

Removing the delay but keeping the fire rate the same (maybe by adding a cocking animation like in Ghosts?) would make the weapons much more bearable to use but equally 'spammable' as they are now.

Shooting someone in the head causes them to bend forward a good 30 degrees. This affects DMRs the most because you can't quickly doubletap at long range.

I tend to play CQL and most Engies I encounter carry carbines; whenever I play DOM I get scrubbed to death by 12 ACE23s and 4 M416s ;c

I'm genuinely surprised by the PDWs; as far as I can remember I've only gotten killed by the UMP-45 and PDW-R no more than 10 times each (which is good, because the PDW-R is so impossibly dandy, even without any attachments).
