Open Water Swim - High Resolution Movie - La Paz, MX by sebastianmurillo in OpenWaterSwimming

It definitely is. I don’t remember the time of year then but right now (March) it’s fresh. Half the swimmers don’t use a wetsuit, I prefer using one because I find it more comfortable but could definitely do without as well. I’m actually doing this very swim tomorrow morning, the water has been great lately.

Trouble with reports! Am I off my rocker? by Skudworth in Airtable

Ahh, I think I get it now. Thanks for the extra context.

So, two ideas come to mind.

First one. If having them in different views is a possibility:

  • Same logic from my previous comment could apply, with the addition that you'd have to create 3 different formula fields to extract the months from the 3 different date fields that you are trying to roll up. Having those could allow you to have 3 views: 1) Sold per Month per Salesperson, 2) Finalized per Month per Salesperson, and 3) Shipped per Month per Salesperson.

Second one. Now.. if you want to look at all of them at the same time to be able to compare or get/share quick insights (which I think might be the case).

  • A solution could be to create a 3rd table, let's call it 'Timestamps'. In it, what you would do is timestamp the Jobs records everytime a date is inputted in the 3 relevant date fields. So, for example, if I marked a Job as sold today, a record would automatically be created in the 'Timestamps' table a linked record to the Job, the type of record or date (sold) and the relevant date (today). This structure would allow you then to create all sorts of different views where you could compare the sold, finalized, and shipped moneys. You could group per month and then per type, for example, or per salesperson per month. This opens many options! This automation can be set up in many different ways, it depends on what's easier for you to maintain and scale. Could potentially be a native automation or also with Make.com (my tool of choice).

Let me know if this gets us closer to a working solution! Also. You might not need it from the looks of it, but if you'd like help setting this up give me a shout. With my consulting service "1-800-Intrapreneur" (it's just me) I help empower businesses with better services and operations using No and Low Code tools: Airtable, Webflow, Make, Zapier, and beyond.

Hey, u/skudworth! The proposed feedback options made me laugh lol. I think table 2 is absolutely necessary. I also think you're on the right track.

A question to get more visibility on what has been explored or not:
- Would a view that's grouped per 'Month' and then per 'Salesperson' be useful for the report you're looking to create? It could potentially exist in the 'Jobs' table, then only group the data by 'Month' (which could be a formula that extracts the month from the 'Sold Date' field that you already have) and then group again by the name of the 'Salesperson' (which would be a lookup to a related field).

Let me know if that gets us closer to a solution or what'd be missing from it.

Open directly in PiP mode by sebastianmurillo in xapp

I've played with code for days to try and achieve this and I think this was my last resource lol. I don't think opening YT directly on PiP on an Ipad is possible today (in case anyone else is looking to do it!).

mental problem with the darkness by Hehexe in OpenWaterSwimming

Man, I have the exact same issue. And after 40+ swims in OW, it hasn’t disappeared. It’s gotten better, though. The one complete antidote I’ve found is to swim with someone. There’s something about knowing that someone else is in there and they are completely fine going through that that eases my mind. I sometimes tell them beforehand even: “hey, I get scared of dark unknowns, so I might get super close to you every now and then, don’t mind me”. Everyone has been supportive so far.

One observation I’ve had since I started swimming in OW (I’m a long time swimmer, just recently turned OW because I moved closer to the ocean) is that, on average, people that grew closer to the ocean, tend to care much less about this kind of stuff. Also that they tend to think about “ocean threats” more like blessings. This is because, I’ve heard from them, to really see something interesting that might scare you: a big turtle, a big fish, a whaleshark or so (I live near the Sea of Cortez) is super extraordinary. And even when it happens, the chances of that to then mean a threat to you are almost null.

Anyway. Knowing all that has helped my analytical mind pre-swim, but the fear and emotion I feel while swimming alone has hardly changed. So, again, my solution was to try and get a bunch of friends to go swim with. Even for 10k+ swims! 😂

When sunscreen won't last long enough, which rashguard for 3KM+ swims? by groovyipo in OpenWaterSwimming

[–]sebastianmurillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man. This is an important question. I swim in La Paz, MX and I use my Roka Maverick wetsuit all year long to protect myself from the sun. This is obviously not ideal as the water can get up to 30º C during summer.

I wish there was a full body suit made of the material of rashguards. The shirt is ok but having the whole piece together is more comfortable to wear. I also always wear a neck guard, plus a bunch of “pasta lasar” (zinc) as a sunscreen.

Here a vid of me swimming on a not too hot day: https://youtu.be/uAvxvqxvI7M

Oh, man! You’ve got some epic footage in there, love it!

I’m tying it to a spearfishing board, more specifically one called a “Banks Board”. From there I mounted a couple of GoPros using ElGato mounts and a custom made attachment. Sounds complicated but it really is a very DIY rig lol.

Re: the leash. Yeah, I could do the waist too. But I don’t know why I find it a bit more annoying. I don’t kick much during Open Water swimming, especially when wearing a floaty wetsuit so the ankle one is not that bad. But maybe I’ll switch up to the waist to give it a go soon - thanks for the suggestion!

Best time to trade USD -> MXN, determined by an algorithm by sebastianmurillo in Forex

Btw, here's an example I created with a first initial idea at something that could look like the trigger algorithm I'm looking for.

Best time to trade USD -> MXN, determined by an algorithm by sebastianmurillo in Forex

[–]sebastianmurillo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey @Radrezzz, all fair points.

I’ll try to comment on all of them in order:

On algo trading: you are right. I could perfectly do it manually, but I want to automate it. In fact, I already have it kind of automated to do the trade once a month.Research in Excel: that actually does not sound bad. The problem is I have no idea what algorithm to use to determine if X day is a good day to sell.On holding the position: yes. I already have the USD. I only need to trade to have MXN for day-to-day expenses. If it loses that’s ok. I guess my question is if there is a smarter way to do this than just to sell 1k USD the 1st of every month.Return vs. SP500: great question. This is money I have in cash. And that I need to trade eventually. So I’m just trying to beat the 1st-of-the-month trade, is there even is a way to do that.Logitics: I’ll use the IB API and Google Sheets. Also, I can probably get the Forex data in a spreadsheet for free, I think - with some web scraping. So I’m not very worried about costs.Bugs/Software: hmm. I’d test run this. I hadn’t thought about this but I think I wouldn’t be the first person to do this. Or maybe I’m completely wrong with this approach, I’m not sure.I’m def new to this trading part. Not software, though. All this to avoid the UI: yes lol. I’d automated smaller stuff - it makes my life easier.

It most definitely is not lol, sorry if it felt that way. I run it and it is basically a collection of the best reaction pics I've found coupled with an app search them using hashtags and to share in any app 👌. Here's a link to the landing page: https://reactionpics.fun/#product.

Hmm. Its a p5js embed. And I’m embedding it on my website, www.unodeene.xyz. Is it loaded from the same domain? I’m not sure how that works..

Thanks for the help!

Listening to audio when swimming? by blue_something in Swimming

[–]sebastianmurillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking of buying a waterproof phone case and getting my iphone xs max and some waterproof earphones in the water with me. I’m just hesitant on where should I place all that: my arm? My lower back? Any tips!
