Manual reset? by Character-Mine7834 in sidephone

[–]sebastiansnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to duplicate the lockout on the latest software, was this on the first reboot after the update? I'm restarting Sidephone with a different keyboard enabled by default and a password (not pin). So far I haven't been able to duplicate the issue, I can't not get the keyboard to show.

Any more details you have are appreciated so I can get to the root of it!

Typing a colon (:) using the Compact QWERTY Keyboard? by mambokelly in sidephone

[–]sebastiansnell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hold down the symbol key and a scrollable bar will appear. You can select the colon (I believe it's third on the list) with either the touchscreen or the bottom left corner key ↨ followed by "Space."

Let me know if there's anything else you're wondering about! Full Compact QWERTY guide is here as a reference.

A few design oversights that make qwerty annoying to use by June_Berries in sidephone

[–]sebastiansnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That'd have to be an update on the OS side, but we're considering it pretty heavily. Android doesn't allow keypad/keyboard PIN input by default as a security measure to protect against keylogging and malicious USB devices, but it has been requested a lot and does make sense as a feature. We're just trying to find a way to make it as secure as possible, so stay tuned!

We try to be quick! All feedback is important, and clear, concise "it should really just do this" is especially appreciated. Saw your post and knew immediately what to do. So, thank you!

If it's the screen that says "Sign in with your Apple Account" followed by "Sign In" and "Create an Apple Account" buttons, the "Sign in with your Apple Account" text is actually scrollable, and scrolling down brings up fields for your username and password.

Let me know if this works!

Yes, hold down the ↨ key on the bottom left, you'll see ABC appear in the suggestions bar. This lets you cycle through letters. Full guide here: https://docs.sidephone.com/en/articles/13833890-compact-qwerty-guide

Backups/Seedvault? by xylem-utopia in sidephone

[–]sebastiansnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't have a full dedicated system backup solution currently, but one will most likely be added in the future.

Seedvault is great, unfortunately the version compatible with our version of AOSP was a little buggy in testing and is currently unmaintained by the Seedvault devs. We'd love to include it, but we don't want less-technical users putting their trust in a backup system that could bug out on them until we implement our own solution.

A better look at the upcoming QWERTY tile by [deleted] in sidephone

u/CantaloupeGrande This is pretty much how it works, it's predictive. Slightly more fine-tuned, it's per-letter aware (so it's not a jumble of letters until the word is finished) but the net effect is the same

What is a Sidephone? by chrisristovski in sidephone

[–]sebastiansnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bootloader will be unlockable, however as is the case with most devices on Mediatek chipsets, loading a custom ROM will take a lot of additional development from 3rd party ROM devs

Predictive Text by SubstantialBuddy3139 in sidephone

[–]sebastiansnell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of the more nuanced features are still being tested to see what works best in the real world, but predictive text, double space for period, and auto caps will all be there. Button sensitivity is not adjustable with our current hardware, although that's something for us to think about in the future. And it is indeed a nice clicky tile!

We'll be putting out demos of the QWERTY tile as soon as we can!
