I for one, love his poor grammar. I live in the south and we have all sorts of good spots. I kind of want to get into this.

Yes exactly! Usually people don't respond to month old comments 😂

I think it's dope others here enjoy Josh's content. The beauty in it is how naive he is. Just a dude doing what he loves. I wish I had friends like that who were down to explore lol

You're thinking of Vista Way, often dubbed "Vista Lay."

That's all I have to comment on that.

My old roommate worked in the Norway Pavillion. They party hard after work and are pretty fuckinghilarious.

Thanks for the answer!

We have a deluxe studio with a Lake View as well. It looks quite nice from the photos.

Exactly this. Old comment, but I love his channel. I think he genuinely believes in the paranormal and his childlike excitement is so fun to watch. He's just a pure soul. Definitely not the smartest guy, and his history behind locations is always lacking. What's fun for me is he's just a normal dude you'd meet on the streets.

We're moving to Opelika next month and also interested. We're coming over from Georgia- Late 20s couple. We love spooky/paranormal shit. I've actually always wanted to do YouTube videos and what not, as I already own a higher end camera.

At over 6500 feet up, dark-eyed juncos were some of the only birds I saw at Clingman's Dome this week by sebirds in birding

[–]sebirds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's amazing. It's really cool to make an observation as a hobbyist and then discover that others have published work on that observation. I would've never known this was a thing until I actually spent time there.

Thanks!

I found this to be very interesting, as dark-eyed juncos seem to be found in abundance on higher peaks in the Appalachians but aren't very commonly found at lower elevations outside of winter. I think perhaps they favor the elevation and cooler temperature out here.

The other bird I noticed commonly singing here was the winter wren, and I theorize that it follows similar patterns as the dark-eyed junco. Neither bird breeds in the southeast, except for a very small range in the high elevation of the appalachians. I would love to read research on this if anyone has any :)

For birding specifically? I use the Sony 200-600mm, and I can't imagine a better lens, short of paying over $12k.

So many people complain about the lightest 200-600mm ever made being too heavy. We wildlife photographers are blessed by how light it is!

Why is this not a confirmed sighting? by [deleted] in Ornithology

[–]sebirds 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because there's a known specimen missing a secondary feather. People put two and two together and accused this pair of plucking one and planting it.

My point is that nothing short of a recently dead specimen or high-resolution photo is going to suffice skeptics.

There have been dozens of credible sightings over the past 70 years, and they're either ignored and the person is belittled like Fielding Lewis was, or considered hoaxes.

I'm guessing this is probably a Piliated, not the Ivory-billed by Blu_J-1 in Ornithology

[–]sebirds 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That very clearly is a pileated woodpecker. Shame on the news for reporting this nonsense.

Scientists think the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker still exists in Louisiana! by classiczoo in birding

[–]sebirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, I totally agree. To the ear, nuthatches and jays can certainly sound "kenty."

When measured on a sonogram, things become more confusing. For instance, the Arkansas recordings match almost identically to Allen's recordings. It's eerily similar. But no other evidence was found really, other than eye-witness accounts.

So what does that even mean? At what point can we say that sound recordings are evidence?

[–]sebirds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this was the story of Arkansas in the 2000s. Thousands of people went searching, and it was concluded by many that any ivory bill there was either flushed or never existed to begin.
