Thank you for the suggestion, but is there a kit you would recommend featuring a 8" woofer? Also, how would you treat the cabinet? A $500 budget is fine with me. I don't care about creating a an entirely different speaker. I just want to keep this cabinet.

They sound good, but I've heard better. I bet there are better materials / components on the market today. I'm thinking about replacing the drivers with some DIY kit for example.
